I LOVE bean sprouts (store-bought) and was wondering if anyone has gotten food poisoning from them before. They're notorious for causing problems due to the way they're grown I guess? Is that true?

I know you can have problems with some of the beans, like black beans and kidney beans. Also, beans need to be cooked to remove the enzyme inhibitors. Even if they are sprouted, they still contain the inhibitors if they aren't cooked.

Very true. That's why when I ate them, I made my own. Sprouts are commonly recalled.

I recently heard a great raw interview about sprouts in general being full of aflatoxins and being very dangerous in the store. One should never buy sprouts...always do them yourself. While you may think you're fine eating the sprouts without harm, aflatoxins actually cause liver cancer, so you're doing more harm than good here.
As for bean sprouts, I'm highly allergic to all types it seems. Whenever I have them, my throat swells up and I can't breathe. Scary. I avoid beans...

I am not much into bean sprouts but do buy all the other store bought sprouts- have done so for years and never had a problem.

I've never had a problem with store sprouts but the very best sprouts are home grown, in my opinion.
