View Full Version : How to make a smoothie
I have yet to make a green smoothie....What has been holding me back is that I dont have a VitaMix :(......What I do have is a blender, a juicer and a food processor.......
What held me back is the other night I made the lemon pudding with the avo and the lemons in the blender and thought it was gonna explode.....
Can I make a smoothie by juicing and then taking the juice and the pulp throwing that in the blender with the banana and softer stuff?......
I went to Booster Juice this morning but they dont make Green Smoothies....
Starting out how many smoothies a day would be ok?....

Sure you can make a smoothie like that, but by using juice instead of the whole fruit or veggie, you're not getting the fiber. Hold on. I'll have a link for you to check out...here you go:

Oops, just saw where you said about throwing the pulp back in. You could, but why can't you blend it all in the blender?
How many smoothies a day? However many you want!

Blenders are for blending. They can make smoothies just fine. The avocado-lemon mixture mightve been too thick for the smoothie to blend up easily. You don't need a Vitamix to make a good smoothie
yep. why juice and then throw the pulp back in? much easier to just throw the fruit/veggie in the blender. anything you want. i just add some water based on the consistency i want. or if you don't want to add water, add a watery fruit or veggie into the mix as well.
fast food! so easy! and healthy! "fast food nation" could have completely different contents.

Yep, don't do like I did. I made my first green smoothie minus any water. Think I had a banana, spinach (baby organic) and that turned out like nasty glue stuff. I couldn't imagine people drinking this gloppy mess! I then added water after some nice soul here on the forum helped me. Some days I like mine thicker and some days thinner...thus add more or less liquid.

do smoothies really taste good with just bananas, spinach, and water? every time i add water to a smoothie, the smoothie is horribly bland, no matter how much other fruit i add to it. i always, always have to add juice or mylk

I have gotten so used to having either lemon or lime in my smoothies that they taste (to me) bland w/out that citrus. I guess it's a matter of personal taste...
I also like my smoothies sweet. Not too much, but I prefer a sweet drink.
Lately it's been spinach, water, either lemon or lime and a squirt of agave and sprinkle or two or three of cinnamon.
i do just nanas & water. taste great to me. very sweet. :D i don't use agave or any kind of sweeteners. plain nanas & water, but i do use purified/distilled water. not sure if that makes a difference.

Yup, those ARE good, but I figure the more greens I can get into my system and this way they are already assimilated, the better I am.
Alissa has the banana and water as a smoothie in her book. It's a power drink! A healing drink...

You do not need a Vitamix or Blendtec to make a good green smoothie, nor do you have to pay lots of cash to go to the juice bars (I wonder sometimes what they put in there- atleast if I make it at home I know what is in there)
Here is what I would do before I got my Vitamix:
1 frozen bananna, 1 cup of water, 1 good handfull of spinach, and a little bit of Kale - blend it all up to make a good smoothie.

Oh, I agree an inexpensive blender will do just fine. Frugal raw has a book about eating raw on a budget - cheaply:

Thanks for ideas everyone.....I have now made my first smoothie.....For my liking I put too much water in.....spinach, banana, cinammon....tastes not too bad............I was anticipating something along the lines of dried alfalfa........Actually getting use it to.....i wonder will I turn green??....

Thank you thank you thank you vegan for life. I love cinnamon in my green smoothie. I finally tried it today. Was a little skeptical even though I love cinnamon. 1/2 tsp. Tomorrow 1 tsp!!!!!:D Never loved the green smoothies. Had one a day because of how good it was for me. I may be having 2 or 3 a day now. Wow wow wow.
Thanks you again. If you haven't tried this, you must.
