View Full Version : Master cleanse or any cleanse while working?

Just wondering if you can do a master cleanse or any other kind of cleanse while working a full time job?

I've read a few stories of how you need to be really close to a bathroom while doing a cleanse which isn't a problem as I work in an office. The problem would be if I had to drink the saline drink before I left home and have to drive 25 minutes to work.

I've read where you need to drink it first thing in the morning and stick by a bathroom. How about drinking it once you get to work? Would that work?

Can you share your experiences?

Thanks :)

Have you already been raw for some time? I would suggest doing something like a green smoothie "fast" before something else if you have not already tried that. That's just me!

oh yaaaaaa i totally agree with eva. i wouldn't personally want to be drinking the SWF and then going in an office bathroom. you may be sitting there a while. i know that when i did it (the few times i did) i sat there for 20 minutes at times.

a juice feast would be a better suggestion, in my opinion... or a green smoothie feast.

oh and drinking it and then being in a vehicle... no waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. when that SWF comes out... there is NO STOPPING IT. the last place i'd want to be is stuck in traffic!

the raw food diet is cleansing in itself. :D

yesh. no MC if you are not near a potty. :p there are a lot of other cleansing methods out there that are just as comparable to the MC if not better. juice fasting or feasting, mono-dieting, proper food combining, water fasting, etc....

since pooping is good (which the MC provides :p), green smoothies, colonics & enemas are an option, too.

so many ways really. :D

I've done the MC and worked every time. Can you stay home the first day that you start? Or go in mid day ? If you've been raw you'll be in great shape to begin.
I love doing it while working as it's so easy and mindless prep. Sometimes in my busy schedule just that reprieve from thinking what to have for meals is a huge break.
If the salt water flush makes you gag , what I do now is sm tea which makes it easier all the way around. BUT when I do the swf I believe it cleans out more rapidly than smtea.
Best of fasting !

I did a 11 day master cleanse and worked a full time job, my drive to work was 45 minutes one way. What I would do is drink the tea a few hours after I got to work and then did the SWF when I got home. The tea loosens stuff up and the SWF well that flushes everything out.

I started my cleanse on the weekend so that way I get a feel for things and see how long the SWF would take to start and stop (everyone is different), the first few times I did it I ran back and forth to the bathroom for over an hour.

My cleanse helped me stop drinking coffee, and cravings for starches were pretty much gone. I also lost about 10 pounds.

**very important to have a probiotic on hand - you need to put back the good bacteria that SWF gets rid of. Start taking it the morning after your last SWF if you choose to do the night one.

Good luck :)

Oceanee Thank you for your input. It's funny that you say it's nice to get a reprieve from thinking what to have for meals because I've thought the same thing! :D I work full time and I hate having to go home and spend an hour or two in the kitchen preparing and cleaning up. I know this is an easy diet if you eat more mono but we're just starting and it's important for us to have things that look and feel familiar so that's what takes us so long in the kitchen the prep and clean up time.

Good luck :) I get the week of Christmas off and it's just me and DH (no family close) so potentially I could start the MC on Friday, Dec. 19th. By the time I go back to work I would almost be done but I didn't know if it would work with me working outside of the home. Thanks so much for your input, it is encouraging.

I have just started raw but I feel like I need to clean all this crud out!! Does that make sense?

Yep makes perfect sense to want to clean house. I did my master cleanse in September of this year and moved to raw shortly after that. The first 3 days of the MC were the hardest for me, after that my body adjusted and I felt better than great. I wish I could have gone for longer but my Dad was starting to worry so I only did a 11 day. My orginal goal was 5 days when I started and found it very doable to stay on track for longer. I am not 100% raw all the time but I try to do the best I can and consider myself still new to it.

I wish you all the best on your journey. :)

I did the MC while working full time with an extensive commute. Broke the cleanse at 7th or 8th day simply because I missed chewing food. Was not hungry at all during the whole time.

I had the exact same pull you describe after about a month raw - just felt like i needed to do a cleanse, and how! so i did the MC, and it worked really well for me. I did work during it, but usually didn't have to be there in the mornings. you'll be OK in an office on the MC, except for the first 2-ish hours after the SWF. Do not leave the house for 2 hours after the SWF! !!! In fact, if the bathroom's upstairs, don't go downstairs, etc. It's no joke. However, once that's over, you're usually pretty ok for the rest of the day (=no urgent running to loo).
Some people skip the SWF or do the tea in the morning instead. I am not speaking from loads of experience here - I only did this once, after all - but I found the SWF to be a really crucial part of the whole experience. And on days that I didn't have time to do it in the morning, and did the tea instead, I really regretted it - not only did it not clean me out in nearly the same way, but I had cramps.
Also, since you mentioned being new to raw - don't make the mistake I made when you go off the cleanse (or fast or whatever you decide to do) - I totally fell off the wagon for a couple days, because I so needed to chew and feel full. treat the whole week after your cleanse as part of it, and go back to food very, very slowly - with juices or smoothies. I started eating way to fast after my MC and boy did I regret it - horrible bloating, gas, put on weight, etc.
Just my thoughts.
Best of luck to ya!

I would suggest taking a few days to see how your body adjusts to the whole routine....I had no dramas at all, would get up with the sun and have the leftover 1/2 mug senna tea that had ben steeping all night, the SWF and be done with bathroom needs within an hour. By the 3rd day i was out for a run within 1.5 - 2 hrs after waking, then onto a normal day (i.e. no unforseen bathroom emergencies!)

I will say with all honesty and humour - the most important advice I heard about the SWF / cleanse that I am very glad I listened to: "Beware, even if you think it is a fart, it most likely NOT!":p :D

Can you do the MS without the SWF? I've done the SWF with just a water fast, and I was out of commission for at least 2 hours. I also work full time at an office, but our bathroom is down the hall, and locked. Takes too much time to get there for emergencies!

I think it's best to do a cleanse like that when you are taking vacation time off work. I did a 7day cleanse drinking lemon water and tea. I slept alot during my cleanse due to me feeling weak the first couple of days. I had alot of energy after the first day.
