Has anyone here overcome general anxiety and/or panic attacks by following a raw diet? At the moment Im not eating a wholly raw diet but I do eat a lot of raw foods (im kind of intuitively gravitating back into a high raw diet). I just would like to know about your experiences. I've been suffering from general anxiety and panic attacks for the past several weeks and its odd, because I never used to be this way. I feel like its consuming me. :( Im really hoping that eating better will provide relief. Im also giving up all caffeine. I suspect that is a culprit. I officially gave it up today but am wondering how long it will take for me to see results.

samariah -
i used to have crippling anxiety attacks, along with near-constant generalized anxiety. RAW has helped me so, so much. in fact, it's really my mental/emotional changes that keep me going on raw, more so than even the physical improvements. i'm more balanced, more confidant, and have way less anxiety.
oh, and the caffeine's probably really bad for anxiety. i quit coffee once i went raw. it was hard for about 3 days, but then - like i had never been a coffee drinker.
you can do this!!

I've not had panic attacks, but raw has helped me immensely with stress and depression. I notice FAR less mood swings on raw, my temperament becomes even and generally very happy, sometimes exuberant!

Many people who experience a large range of mental ailments have found that raw helps them diminish and in many cases, get rid of completely, these ailments.

Give it time, sometimes anxiety/depression/panic symptoms can be a response to the body's swinging chemical state (i.e. blood sugar level, neuro-receptors etc) caused by the not so healthy food we eat (think of ADHD and additives.). It takes a while to rid our bodies of the consequences of these sorts of foods.

Processed foods definately mess with your brain chemistry so raw should help you since you are eliminating them. Several scientific studies have been done on ADHD and processed foods and interestingly prison experiments with whole vs. processed foods have found decreased in violence after switching to a whole foods menu.

I can attest that caffeine is Definately a culprit. Giving it up will settle you down considerably, I highly recommend doing so, But, it won't cure it.

Truthfully, I don't know that raw can cure anxiety. But I have found many a time I can transform negative energy into positive energy easily on raw. That energy is still there, but instead of anxiety and endless fretting, it's excitement for life and productivity.

Also, I have found that exercise is a really healthy and effective outlet. If you aren't eating really healthy, exercise becomes a chore. Have you ever been on bedrest? It offers that same kind of trapped feeling that the fatigue of a crap diet can. It makes you horribly restless with no ability to do anything about it because you're too tired and too foggy to get it together.

Raw gives you that...togetherness.

I, too, have experienced much more profound calm and peace since changing to raw foods. It's quite remarkable. With 100% raw, I felt as if I had "awoken." There is no question there is a spirtual element to raw foods - it is total: mind, body and spirit.

I have suffered from Anxiety and Panic Attacks for most of my adult life (off and on) along with Depression. As a kid I suffered from ADHD (undiagnosed). When I am 100% raw my Anxiety and Depression and Emotional issues subside; when I relapse on sugars and caffine it comes back with a Vengence.

100% Raw - Caffine and Sugar Free is they way to go. Of course fresh fruit is good but, I cant' eat too much sweet fruits or I get the same result as sugar.

I have severe anxiety and was wondering too if an all raw diet will help. I think I'll keep researching online and just may try it.
