hi guys. i recently got my mom onto smoothies. at first, she added sugar in them. and then, she gradually stopped the sugar and is now using honey instead. i'd like to eventually get agave for her.

her favorite smoothie is made of fuyu persimmons. just yesterday, i went home and there was a basket full of persimmons! usually, the only fruits she buys are the ones for me. she barely buys any fruits for herself, because she doesn't like them. so yesterday was a surprise! i don't eat the persimmons myself, b/c i save them for my mom as they seem to be the only fruit she likes, & i like a whole lot. :p

what types of other fruits would she like, if she likes the persimmon? she doesn't even like fuyu, but she likes them in smoothies. anyone have an idea? she doesn't like bananas. she will drink oranges but doesn't prefer them... same with oranges. papayas are ok. apples, pears... no-no. grapefruits... definitely no. she doesn't seem to like fruits that are sour.

i'm adding to the list as suggestions come up! thanks guys!

Definitely likes
persimmons

May possibly like
peaches
berries
cantaloupe
ripe pineapples
ripe mangoes
dates

Is ok with
oranges

Doesn't like
bananas
grapefruit
lime/lemon
apples
pears
watermelon
any sour tasting fruit

What about canteloupe smoothies? They remind me of dairy smoothies, but better.

hm. with peaches, they're pretty sweet. although she doesn't like to eat them as is, she might like them in a smoothie like the persimmon. i'll try that out & make sure to grab 2 next time we go grocery shopping.

strawberries... no. tried those. no apples. berries... maybe. they're expensive though, but if she will have them, they'll be good for more variety.

cantaloupe, we've done. i can't wait for the next $.99 sale! http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u103/tphimm/please.gif i'm not sure if she passed them on yesterday, b/c they were too expensive or b/c she didn't like them. i didn't go grocery shopping with her yesterday. she went with my brother. she did drink them though. and i actually didn't have any, b/c i saved them for her. she really does not eat fruit. so i'm glad she's finally having some!

How about dates? They make a caramelly type taste, that with some Almond Mylk and some cacao, you got yourself a chocolate shake thing going on.

how are dates with just the almond milk taste like? and is the drink dark? she's a very visual eater. :o i'm not familiar with the date people. i don't believe my local asian market has it, although i've never looked out for them. i'll make sure to be more attentive for them next time. do dates taste anything like prunes or raisins? my mom doesn't like those.

no cacao. that is a good idea for my brother. that boy really doesn't eat fruit! he loves chocolate. my mom hates chocolate. i'm ok with chocolate. we were all adopted... really. :p

any recipe taste like chocolate milk? maybe i can work on my brother, too. he's a non-fruit & non-veggie kind of boy.

RIPE mangoes. RIPE pineapple? and yeah, dates. to me persimmons taste like pure sugar. dates would be the next closest. but try mango. but make sure its RIPE

persimmons taste like pure sugar.

i guess she likes sweet fruits, although she is not a cake, pie, etc... type of gal.

ripe mangoes. we have 2. i'm not sure if she wanted to eat them unripe. there's a thai thing where nonripe mangoes are eaten with some kind of black sweet sauce. she may be wanting the mangoes for that, hm. and ripe papayas, ok. thank you. :)

if she doesn't like dates, she may like them as a alternative to honey.

yeah, i would try to use dates instead of bothering to buy agave too. dates are a wholefood, whereas agave is just a separated-out sugar, so dates really are better health-wise. (and tastewise too, in my opinion...)

I didn't used to like bananas in smoothies either, but now I do.

My latest favorite green smoothie: ripe, sweet mango, spinach, romaine, and a ripe, frozen banana!

I hear apples are similar to persimmons.

Weird suggestion, but maybe raw pumpkin pie? Persimmons seem to have a similar taste to pumpkin. At least to me.

I tried sneaking in a half banana in her smoothie. She wouldn't have it. And I wouldn't have it, because there was honey in it. Oh poor smoothie!

Although it could have been unripe, hm.... I'll freeze some ripe ones and try sneaking in pieces again. Let's see! http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u103/tphimm/foxes_121.gif

The gal doesn't do apples. Maybe we haven't tried the right type. Which apples do you eat?

I think persimmons are a whole lot sweeter than apples. I forget the name of my apples. They have a kind of tart taste to them for me.

Raw pumpkin pie? Is it hard to make? http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u103/tphimm/foxes_121.gif

I've never had pumpkin. Are they the fat oval kinds? I'm only used to jack-o-lantern pumpkins. :o

butternut squash would probably give you a similar taste/texture to pumpkin. but with either one youre going to need alot of sweetener.

oh cadoodles. i can't have the gal on sweeteners. it would be great for her to taste the natural sweetness of some fruits.

right now, she's using honey. i learned about dates & agave as an alternative from you guys. thanks. :)

I will ask about the recipe for pumpkin pie. :) It tastes wonderful... A lot of people use persimmons in it, too, so she might enjoy that.
