Do you have some raw almond butter? That always helps me. Put some on a celery stick, or a banana, or a flax cracker.

Do a search under the banana for somre recipes that use carob and almond butter. When you get Alissa's book make the Almond Butter Balls. I eat one of those when I get hit with cravings.

I too eat almond butter spread on a banana or some halvah or the raw coconut caramel cookies posted ( can eat them not dehydrated..yum!)
in the recipe section or raw ice cream in those moments where nothing appeals to me. Or juicy cold fruit like peaches.

When someone is truly starving, they will eat anything.....I have never truly been in that position. I've been hungry and wanting something in particular sooo, I have that something I want.

Here's a suggestion ~ define the "taste". Sweet? eat something sweet even if it means downing a tablespoon of honey. Pungent? have something pungent.

It sounds to me as though you are not getting enough tastes. Also, when people "think" they are starving, they are either not getting enough nutrients or enough fats.

So, here's one suggestion ~ don't eat. Only drink water. Then, when you are REALLY starving ~ might be a few days, might be a few weeks, ~ you'll know what to eat. :)

Okay, you aren't really starving if you can't find anything to eat.

Starving, means I'm so hungry that I must fill my stomach with something, anything, grass, clover, dandelion greens, water, anything.

Can't find anything to eat, means you are having a specific craving for something that isn't in your home, or you haven't made and you want it.

So, you aren't starving, or you would be eating the paint off the walls. You are craving something.

I find that MY cravings (not saying anyone else's) are very specific to my addictions.

I have addictions for wheat and dairy,

So I used to do an experiment, (althoug I don't suggest this, It certainly helped me to figure out what was going on with my body) I would go to the grocery store, and put everything in my cart that I saw that looked good to eat, then I would take that cart over to another cart and separate them into what foods I will actually eat on my raw lifestyle, and what foods I would never eat, and guess what. ALL the foods went into the never would eat cart. hummmmmm

Now, I would also notice what the foods were made of, I won't make a list of cooked foods here, as I know it can trigger people, but let's just say that everything in my cart had wheat and dairy in it, some had sugars.

HUMMMMM, so what I wanted was wheat and dairy which were addictions for me.

So, I knew I was battling an addiction, and not a true hunger, and I would go to the produce section, buy a bunch of really exotic fruits and veggies, and go home and eat whatever I could that was raw.

Did this satisfy my hunger, YES, the hunger part, but not the craving part,

But it did satisfy my "control" part, I could now be "in control" if only for a short period of time, maybe a day, maybe an hour, but at least I felt "in control" of my eating for a little while.

Then when I found myself lurking around the kitchen, standing in front of the frige with the door open, searching the non-cooked cupboards, I would eat something, anything raw again, and again, and again, and if I really wanted help, I would come here and chat on this forum.

so, KNOW that you aren't really hungry if there is NOTHING to eat.

That is not possible.

Peter Parker, pretty early on, I made Juliano's meatloaf. I immediately found out that I would have to keep a supply of this made up and waiting for me in the refrigerator. That helped me get through my first 30 days of eating raw.

You may have to find something or two or three things that help you. I would suggest trying different recipes (lots of people cut the recipe in half or quarters, the first time they make it) and seeing what appeals to you. You can also ask yourself, is it something sweet, salty, crunchy, savory, etc..

I hope this helps.

Blessings.

I know exactly what you mean. You feel like you are starving in a desparate kind of way but nothing looks good. I agree you're not really in starvation mode, but you *are* in an eating cycle that your body has created for you.

One of the things I'd make for myself when I felt like you did was a banana cream pie shake. I'd use bananas, frozen or fresh and young coconut water/meat and vanilla and lots of ice. It was really rich and would stop any kind of craving.

I'd also do something like a creamsicle shake with orange and coconut as well as frozen bananas for a creamy thick base.

Another thing I'd do was a fresh/frozen banana shake with either carob or cacao or even plain cocoa (not being pure 100% of course), vanilla, water, ice which would definately stop my cravings cold.

Another thing that might work which wouldn't be a concentrated fat is sliced avocado with lemon, wrapped in a romaine leaf. You can add verious chopped veggies like cilantro, red pepper, jicama, corn etc. Good Mexican meal.

Something low-fat but satisfying especially in season right now would be 2-3 really ripe peaches, or a bowl of cherries or 1/2 a cantaloupe.

Hope that helped!

PP, Have you tried to make a list of stuff that you do like to eat? A list of stuff you might want to try? If you sit down and write out what you'd like to eat (Raw of course) you will come up with a pretty good shopping list. It sounds to me like you don't have enough variety in your home.

Hi peter, I recognize you from rawfood.com
You are not starving
You are CRAVING
WHY?
Well Some theories say - you are not eating enough FRUIT!

EAT fruit, one kind at a time 5-6-7 banana's - till you are satiated!
eat no fat during the day, save it for your evening meal, fat does not let the body digest fruit sugar (doug graham)
I was all mess up like you a while ago

now I eat

Green smoothie for breakfast

2-3 pieces of fruit snack

5-7 pieces of fruit wrapped in lettuce lunch

a whole melon/watermelon snack

LARGE salad with 4-6 ingredients - no oil. but avo, OR flaxseeds OR nuts - ground into to dressing.

2-3 oranges

try this see if it works

eat fruit meals all the fruit you want

When someone is truly starving, they will eat anything......

I agree with the Revell's statement.

Peter! Hey, do you mean the [ZEST] of an appetite is not there? Do you feel like if you went about the day without eating, you wouldn't really notcie it? If so, I went thru this and I literally had NO appetite for anything---I had an underlying, dormant slow creeping stomach problem that was working itself out. Can I ask how your BM's are???? OOPS,dorry for being so nosy. :D :p :)

I know what you mean. I went through this last week. What rescued me was going shopping, buying (raw) things that I have not had in a while, and making some new gourmet recipes (salsa and 'Coleslaw' on lettuce leaves). Usually, I am a mono-girl, but this time, I really enjoyed something different. Today, I feel like a newborn. Full of dedication and energy again. My conclusion is, that getting stuck to eating same things over and over again, may result in lack of desire for food. A change is as good as a rest.

Best,
Gosia.

But seriously Peter, sometimes it's okay to feel like that--the body will cue you on what it wants........try starting from the most simple and work your way upward. Fruits and then on and on............ :)

I believe that's the first question she ever asked me as well. :p I like that in a person. My hubby claims that a friend of mine and I are *always* "talking sh*t". :D

I like it too. Since I don't read newspapers, watch t.v. and such ~ what else to talk about but personal stuff? You know what's funny? I use to be on "personals" sites (where I met the Bo-man) and would start out asking "personal" questions. Guys would tell me I was getting too personal ~ Gee, you ever been married? How many children do you have? Do they live with you? Do you drink or smoke? THESE things they considere too personal. NEVAH did I ask ~ so, how are your bm's? (ask now of course) :D
