I'm loving the sprouting thing, but getting bored with just alfalfa, red clover, lentil, mung, broccoli. What do you like to sprout??? I'm only using the jar method, so far (think my cats would play in dirt trays too much, so no greens... yet...). Would love some ideas!!

Try some radish and/or onion in your clover or alfalfa. Spices it up nicely.

I quit sprouting. Just wasn't eating enough of them. But when I did them, I usually did lentil, pea, chickpea and a spicy mix with radish in it.

I'm really enjoying sprouting. I sprout 3 tablespoons at a time, but seeds you've already mentioned. Alfalfa, mung, radish, clover and broccoli. I like sprouting these in a Mason jar with the plastic twist on (with holes) lids. I keep us in a constant supply.

I've got lentils to sprout, haven't tried them yet.

Right now I'm also sprouting buckwheat for the granola recipe I use (Renegade Health Show's recipe) so good! I sprout that in the paint bags. I like having the granola's ingredients soaked, sprouted and dehydrated, ready to mix up.

My husband ordered wheat grass and all that goes with it to grow it, but he hasn't tried it yet. *Ü*

I second onion sprouts...you can buy them at the store to taste them if you want....to me, they don't taste harsh like adult onions, they have this nice, mild 'onion bun' type of flavour.

In fact, they are becoming such an addiction with me, I am going to start growing my own, lol...

I have some lentils....but not sure if they are raw? Should I just try to sprout them and see? Would there be a danger if they are not raw and they "grew" something? OR would they really not be able to grow anything if they are "cooked"??

Thanks.

Where do you find mustard seeds, kress, and these types of seeds? I only have alfalfa, and mung.....I'd really like to try something different.:D

Hi Wendi ~ I watched a YouTube video a couple weeks ago where the lady was soaking her Dollar Store bag of lentils overnight as she was going to cook them. The next morning she had a bowl full of beautiful sprouts, much to her surprise! I don't recall what she did with them, but she didn't cook them - she was so surprised though that they sprouted...

I found it - Sprouted Lentil Salad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTGLENqPUAE&feature=related)

sunflower and buckwheat greens, red clover, garlic, diakon radish, brocolli, arugula, mustard, alfalfa, wheatgrass, dill, mung, chickpea, lentil...

I get really great blends from Sproutpeople (they are all organic) and bulk lentils, chickpeas, wheatberries, etc. from wfm. good stuff.

Am I the only person who gets a stomach ache off of lentil sprouts? It's an unusual problem for me; I don't consider my stomach to be sensitive.

you can get them in each hfs here. I don't know where you can get them in the States, sorry. Perhaps you could go to one of your local hfs-s and ask them whether they could help you with some info? Good luck.

I pretty much like the regular but really started enjoying sunflower sprouts when I put them in a large salad (enough to last a few days) and after a couple days found they were sprouting, even in the fridge.

Hi jacsam ~ Do you sprout your sunflower seeds in dirt? I've never sprouted the seeds, but I'd like to. Do you buy them with the shell on, right? *Ü*

I just live for buckwheat sprouts. They are awesome in EVERYTHING. Or just by themselves... those precious little ant head shaped goodies.

Sprouts peeping out every day at my house. I love them. They are considered the greatest, most economical, most powerful nutrition packed green to eat. I eat them and instant bliss. They are the closest thing to wild foods you will get.
Also I buy pea sprouts at Trader Joes. They are packed with living energy. I eat them by the handfuls right form the container in the car as they pick me right up.

do you sprout in dirt or just jars and water?
the onion seeds sound really nice, do you just buy regular onion planting seeds?
