I will be working aboard a cruise ship for the better part of December and all of January (2 separate trips, home for 2 weeks in between). I have been trying to think of creative ways to stay high raw or (preferably) 100% raw during these trips, and I would like your suggestions. So far, I have come up with:

1. Taking a few pounds of nuts, pre-soaked and re-dried
2. Preparing and taking grawnola bars
3. Might take a little bit of dried fruit, for when I am resisting the "Dutch Chocolate Extravaganza" night in the Lido
4. Bringing my own unfiltered olive oil for salads and dressings. Maybe pack some dried herbs and an empty jar for mixing such a dressing?
5. Salad bar, salad bar, salad bar
6. They frequently have shrimp salad in avocado, so I figure I can just scoop out the shrimp part and have at the avo.

Please, any additional suggestions are MUCH appreciated!

You should be able to ask for things such as plain avocado, raw veg platter, etc.
I find just using olive oil with cayenne & kelp granules works well on salad. Or you can squeeze a lemon w/the oil. The herbs idea sounds good too.
Raw tomato and/or spinach Powder-can easily be made into soup by adding water.
Make your own or buy premade chocolate treats for chocolate night & other craving times.
Matter of Flax Hummus (dehydrated powder you mix with water)-use on cucumbers, in lettuce leaves, on tomatoes
Food/Protein Powder
Seaweed

Are you allowed to use the kitchen and grab fruits and veggies as you want them? Can you speak to whom orders food for the ship if you can put in a personal order/delivery before it leaves the dock.
Your other ideas are good as well!

:( I actually don't work for the cruise line, but for a contracting company, so the general idea is not to ask for any special treatment or make any waves. So access to the kitchen is a no go. In general, tho', the salad bar is pretty well stocked with the basics, even alfalfa sprouts:)

On the very up side, your suggestion made me think about what an invaluable resource the ship's crew is :D:D. They're incredibly helpful in the dining areas, so I think that if I just asked for stuff politely, they would make it happen.

I'm a little concerned about getting too fruity, since an overload of fruit makes me kinda loopy and throws my blood sugar outta wack, which triggers cravings for me. So I will be making an effort to balance things towards the salads side!

Can you bring a small blender, like a magic bullet, and make green smoothies? I make my green smoothies sometimes just with a baby greens/salad greens blend and fruit. It doesn't have to be fancy greens. Heck, romaine works, spinach works, cucumber, etc.

I would also consider bringing a small cooler that you can put stuff in for snacks later (unless there is 24 hour access to salad bar). Bring some containers, or stuff the greens/fruit in your purse and take back to your room. I know that sounds crazy, but heck, why let what people think matter? If you stop in a port of call, can you buy fresh fruit too?

I know if I made some sort of cracker ahead of time, some buckwheat candy, and had access to greens, avocados, and fruit, I could live that way for months.

I don't know how much space you have to pack your own food but I'm obsessed right now with JustTomatoes dried veggie mix, they have regular and hot and they are both a great snack. I called them and they are dried at very low temps, so definitely raw, and very nutrition-packed. Also because they're dried they're pretty compact, I eat about 1oz a day and you could easily put 14oz in a gallon-sized ziplock bag. They're great for helping avoid crunchy snacks like chips and popcorn, and you can add them to salads to get a little crunch when you get bored, but I usually just eat them right out of the bag!

I would strongly suggest getting a tribest personal blender. I now have two bases for different voltages. It is small, not expensive, travels very well and easy to clean.

I would also bring a nylon mesh bag or sprouting jar plus some sprouting seeds.

See if you get access to what greens they will have. Call as a customer and not an employee as you may get better responses!

Bring a good powdered green food.

Will you have a mini fridge in your cabin or access to a small fridge. If not perhaps bring on board a small cooler. You will have great access to ice so keeping things chilled may be easier than you thought!

I did a blurb on raw travel in the thread below. I also put in a link to a blog from a raw flight attendent!

Please do write about your experience on board as I'm sure it would be very helpful to others!

Have a great time:p
