I was making orange juice this morning and wondered if there is anything productive I can do with the leftover orange peels?

Thanks

They can be dried, slivered, then added to various recipes. Make sure they are organic though as they will most likely be colored and/or have been sprayed or gassed, otherwise.

I just eat them. I also eat lemon peel. The peel is even better for you than the fruit - there's a bunch of scientific research that was published about that just in the last year alone. What would I do? Make raw chocolate (melted at low, still raw, temps) and pour it over julianned (spelling?) orange peels. Let it set in the fridge and have dessert!! Or dice some over homemade non-dairy ice cream. or....well you get the picture.

Wow, what an amazing array of uses. I had no idea that the peel was o.k. to eat. Thanks everyone.

You can rub the white side on your skin for the natural fruit acids.

I dehydrate, then use in orange spice tea.

I use the zest in salad dressings, ice creams, and cakes (raw)

I use them to make orange marmelade

I dehydrate them and use them in magick spells.

I simmer them on the stove and they make the whole house smell great.

I use them to "wash" my hands (gets rid of odors)

I use them in orange spice body/hair oil.

I use them in scent balls.

I use them by hanging them in my closets, and bathrooms, to smell nice, until they dry, then do the above with them.

I rub them on my dog's coat, and they make him smell wonderful.

Hi rawpriestess,

Thanks for all the great ideas. I want to make sure I have this right. You hang the peel for a nice scent until it dries and then use them in the various ways you listed? Do you eat them fresh as well?

Thanks,

Angelique

If you have A LOT, I'd mince them, strain them and put the juices in a spray bottle. It makes a GREAT ant killer and we just sort of have a bit of an ant problem.....

Yeah, what she said...At Christmas time back in the day, my mom would take all the mandarine orange peels, boil them up in sugar water and then dry. They were soooooooo awesome!
I'd like to try VV's idea, it sounds like it just might work!

Save your peels after you eat the inside of the fruit and cut them into thin strips. Place on muslin or cheese cloth on your dining room table and let dry at room temperature for a couple of days until dry and crisp. Place the peel strips into your coffee grinder and grind into a powder and use to mix
with your early morning drink. One rounded teaspoon will supply you with more organic Vitamin-C Complex, Rutin, Hesperidin, & Bioflavonoids than your body needs for the day regardless of your size. A rounded teaspoon of fresh
homemade orange peel powder mixed in your blender with some fresh homemade organic apple juice tastes awesome. Get even more creative and add more of your favorite fruit to the mixture.

I know you can dry them and grind them up in a coffee grinder and use them in smoothies, juice whatever you like. One rounded teaspoon has more organic Vitamin-C Complex, Rutin, Hesperidin, & Bioflavonoids than your body needs for the day regardless of your size.
