I made a pumpkin pie, it was delicious, but ruined my stomach for about 8 hours!!
the only thing in the pie that I had never had before was the pumpkin, but I have eaten raw butternut and acorn squash before with no problems. :(
Anyone else have issues with this particular type of pumpkin?

I was going to post something on this. I made a pumpkin smoothie from a recipe I found on-line. About an hour and half later, I was standing in line at the store and started feeling quite ill. I made it home in time, but felt sick for a few hours after that. It was the weirdest feeling. Literally thought I would throw up whilst sitting on the toilet at the same time. : O
I don't know if it was the pumpkin or the combination with the other stuff. It was pumpkin, cashew milk, spices, and frozen banana. I hope someone else has some thoughts on this because I really wanted to make a raw pumpkin pie.

The only thing I can think of is that the pumpkin could have had a bacteria on the skin. When you prepared the pumpkin your hands could have gotten some of the bacteria on the meat. A good idea would be to wash the skin well before cutting into the pumpkin. This could happen with all squash and melons. By the way don't for get to wash your hands after washing the squash.;)

I agree! Sounds like something on the pumpkin, or perhaps the type. Maybe you have a sensitivity? However, try using an organic pumpkin and wash the outside with some vinegar and baking soda mixed in water.
I LOVE raw pumpkin. I have a whole pumpkin chopped in my freezer just waiting to be made into pumpin pie ice cream ^_^ Mmmmm guess what my breakfast is tomorrow!!!

Thanks for the tips! Although I probably will not try that kind of pumpkin again!

I have had pumpkin smoothies and was fine with them.
I agree with others, washing the outside of their skins makes a whole lot of a difference. I always do it with everything that has skin on it that requires peeling. ie Avocados, oranges, melons, pumpkins, etc.
Hope you have better luck next time.

Just use the squash that your haven't been sensitive too ..... did you say butternut and acorn? I've used banana squash before and it was wonderful.

I had a revelation last night. It was not the pumpkin at all that bothered my stomach it was too much coconut oil. Usually I have a teaspoon here and there, but last night I put about 1.5-2 tablespoons in my smoothie and bam! The same exact hurt tummy feeling as after I had the pumpkin pie (in which I used a fair amount of coconut oil)!
I blamed the poor pumpkin :(
The bright side is now I get to make the pumpkin pie again but this time I will use psyllium or something else to solidify instead of the coconut oil.
