Please tell me that the whole "I smell everything" goes away!! I am desperate. I went on a trip this past weekend, got to the hotel room and almost barfed. It smelled so strongly of mold, mildew, and dogs. I asked my friend if he smelled anything. He said,"It just smells like a hotel room to me."
I don't even want to talk about the bathrooms at work.
On the 17th of this month, I will have been (love that tense) 100% raw for 3 months. I've lost 36 pounds (I had 100 to lose). Almost all of my food addictions are broken - by which I mean I no longer crave the crap anymore. And I have so much energy!! This diet is fantastic. Except that it turns out I live in the armpit of the universe.
Please advise.

Advise about what? One of the best (and sometimes the worst) things in life is enhancing one's sensory acuity.
Most people go around dead. They've lost their perceptions and senses.
Congratulations!

I know it's a good sign. But oh, it was hard to sleep in that room. And I estimate that there are at least 2 bulimics that use the bathroom closest to my office.

Sorry to burst your hope bubble, but your sharpened sense of smell will stay improved. It's a good thing for the most part. Just carry some essential oils w/you to divert the bad odors. A lot of times I feel like that kid in the move "Sixth Sense"? I SMELL dead people! LOL!!!
Congrads on the weight elimination! That is way cool! Keep it up!

My sister thinks that I'm turning into a vampire. I have been a bit savage with some tomatoes.
And the poor little clementines still shiver whenever I get close.

Yeah, I know, it's tough. I've always been able to smell things others can't yet, what to do? I've learned to have some really nice gentle natural fragrance on my hands so, just lift them to my nose and inhale. Women at one time use to carry hankies with fragrance to dilute stink. Might have to go back to that, eh?

I noticed the smell thing too and I'm not all raw yet. I was viewing some houses last wekend and the smells were awful. I'm not sure I'll e able to take it when I'm all raw!!

I love having the acute sense of smell but I am fortunate to not have to be near nasty scents often. I burn sage where I work now and then to clear weird odors out but then it's my place so I can.
It's the body odors and old people skin that get me the most:rolleyes:.
Great weight release ~ good for you and in 3 months !

I have a dear friend who has cancer (she doesn't want anything to do with raw) and it's been interesting to notice that she now smells very different. I don't know if it's the cancer or the chemo and other meds she's using. I've also noticed other people that all of a sudden smell different to me and then find out they too are sick. Interesting.
i know a raw foodists who is converting to high raw instead of 100% raw, b/c she just can't tolerate her increased sense of smell anymore. she's been raw for a long while. so it's not going to go away.
the recommendation about carrying around a scent with you and holding it to your nose sounds great. i like that suggestion!
there are personal air purifiers you can hang around your neck you can get. they're as small as mp3 players and look travel friendly. :)
Below is a description for a personal air purifier product:

Just plug it in and create your Personal Clean Air Zone, redefining air quality to a level so pure you can’t imagine life without it.
The sleek shape of the purifier gives you more room to breathe, too. There's no visual clutter. Just clean design. Breathe easy.
Define Your Sphere Of Well-Being - Create your Personal Clean Air Zone with the purifier. Small enough to hold in your hand, yet large enough to surround you by a sphere of pure air. For better air quality, there’s the purifier for pure performance in your personal space.
Personality Plus - With your purifier, you create a place to call your own. Choose a stylish filter pattern that suits your mood or your environment. Then sit back and relax, and feel the difference in air quality. Pretty extraordinary.
Portable Air Purity - As versatile as it is compact, your AirPod easily slips into your briefcase to go to work, into a duffle bag for life at the dorms or into an overnight bag whenever you travel. With your AirPod, purer air quality goes wherever you do.
personally, i stay outdoors often or in big open spaces. :D

It is interesting. I had an infected toe one time (enclosed, no open sore or anything) and if dogs were around they'd come over and lick it. Sounds icky yet, they could smell it and it's their nature.

I just head something on the news about a woman who's dog smelled one of her breasts, I mean KEPT smelling it and sure enough, she had cancer in it. Here's the article:

Wow, I knew dogs had a great sense of smell, but that is amazing!
I love the heightened senses that come along for humans who eat more raw food! What a joy :)
whenever i have a headache, my doggie comes to sleep on my forehead. it's very soothing. :)

I've always had a heightened sense of smell and it's even more so now that I'm eating raw. I never like to smell anything, even pleasant smells, for long. It feels horrid not to be able to get away from a smell.
The extra sensitive smeller doesn't go away, but you can get used to having it. I go to a restroom at work that is farther away but is extremely large and never has much use (no smells). If I end up next to a fragrant person and can't move, I very often breathe through something (my turtleneck, my sleeve...I think a hanky is a superb idea.
Not only do mold and mildew smell bad, they can be harmful. I'm mildly allergic to them and would have tried my best to get another room. Dog...might be annoying...but I'd probably put up with that one. You pick your battles....;)

I know what you mean about hotel rooms. Most of them smell like old cigarette smoke to me, eventhough they are "non smoking" rooms. Even the high priced ones have some kind of odor, but not as bad as the low/mid priced ones. And then there's that chemical smell...:(
I used to have a bad sense of smell, but I now notice that I smell a lot more things that never used to bother me. Oh, well, at least my cat(s) appreciates my increased attention to her(their) boxes. ;)

Like everyone has said, it won't go away, but it will become less intense. You'll get used to it, trust me!! It's like turning on the light in the middle of the night. Hurts at first, but you adjust :) and experience everything so much clearer for it.
The great part of all this is that you can use your heightened senses to help you decide what is healthy for you and what is not. :D Every once in a while, take a walk in the park of the forest for a superb treat for the nose!!! Then you will never be sorry for your heightened senses!
And about smelling the sickness in people, that was always a skill I've had, but since Raw, it's intense. It's great because it allows you to act specifically for a person. Each disease also has its own smell, too. After a while, you'll be able to recommend foods for people. Out of the blue, perhaps to someone who smells of deficiency, perhaps saying, "I heard about this neat thing called Green Smoothies! Have you heard of them? They're GREAT!"
Heightened sense helps place in your hand the power to make the world around you a better place :)

Hey Emma-Liza,
I got my screen name because I've had bad teeth (partly due to poor nutrition) and the nickname stuck. Toofy Dent, ha ha.
Thanks everyone for all the comments! I find it fascinating how much more I can smell now. I can smell sick people too! Not the cancer breast thing, though.
I can't really do the scented oils thingie - I have a lot of allergies. I am VERY hopeful that as I progress in the raw foodism that my allergies will die down. I already am enjoying a less severe reaction to most of my airborne allergens, and of course I am allergy medicine free. It feels wonderful! Those allergy medicines depressed me, literally.
I had an episode about 4 days ago and tried taking one of my allergy pills (allegra). It did NOTHING for me. My sister thinks that maybe my body needs cooked food in order to process medicines like that. That sounds crazy. I think my body just has the resources to reject my medical tinkering/poisoning.

Ugh, I am actually sitting in my lab at school breathing through my sleeve right now because everyone keeps heating up their lunch. I don't usually have too many problems with smells, but food being microwaved really kills me for some reason, especially those pre-packaged meal things. What sucks the most is I can't enjoy eating any of the delicious fresh food I brought for my lunch while the room smells like cooked crap =( It takes hours for the smell to go away...
Le sigh...
