Vita-Mix.. should I?

Should I get one? Linens N Things is going out of business, and have a huge sale. I was thinking of getting a Vita-Mix there--IF they're still open tomorrow.

How many appliances will it really replace? (juicer, food processor AND blender?) Is it that much better than my current, run-of-the-mill FP, juicer and blender? Is is easy to clean or a PITA?

I've had mine for over 10 years and if it died tomorrow I wouldn't even hesitate to order another one immediately. I still use a FP for things like grating and thin slices and some pates that I don't want satin smooth. I still use my juicer for juicing, I don't like the Vita Mix method of juicing. HOWEVER ... for making nice smooth (not chunky) green smoothies, for making raw "dairy type" products like cheese cake, cashew sourcream, smooth nut based dressings, raw cheeses, and satin smooth sauces or pureeing things to smooth puddings I wouldn't trade my Vita Mix for anything.

All I saw was the title of your post - and my whole mind, without even finishing, cried, "ZOMG YES."

You will not regret it. It's super easy to clean. 10 seconds - maybe 30 if you use something sticky.

Think of it... almond butter, green smoothies, puddings...

It replaces my food processor completely, and other blenders without a doubt. I don't use mine for juice right now, but will be soon.

I have a BlendTec, and I there is no emoticon that can express how much I love it. I imagine a Vita-Mix would be exactly the same. They are wonderful machines, and they'll turn any leafy green into a goldmine of nutrition!

The payoff is the nutrient absorption and the health benefits. Plus you can make awesome drinks to impress your friends with! ;)

I just used mine to blend up flax seeds. It'll turn them into flour. I don't think that any bottled flax seed oil could come even close to the quality of nutrition and savings. This is about as fresh and close to nature as it gets.

It'll also save you time as well. You can make a morning smoothie in about 5 minutes (at most) and it might be the most healthy meal you had all day.

The big thing is that you have to use it to make it worth it. Otherwise save that money.

I got my Vitamix not too long ago- and all I can say is how did I live without it !

I make a super smooth smoothie in 60 seconds (I have used things like frozen banana, frozen pineapple, spinach, and a little bit of water). You can make nut cheese in minute. It is super easy to clean - fill it half way with water, a drop of soap, run it for a minute and you are done- clean.

You VM will replace another blender. It will not replace the juicer or fp. It's SO easy to clean. Mine is about 12 years old and still going.

YES!!! ABSOLUTELY!! 100% will NOT regret it. I use mine for juicing and like ti much better than my juicer! :) I do use the FP still.

IMO a VM wouldn't replace anything but a blender.
I agonized over spending the money on one but I am so, so glad I did.
I use it daily and it does things that regular blenders simply cannot do.

I agree, the VM while awesome isn't a juicer or food processor. That advertising is a bit deceptive. It's a super powerful blender.

Although I've made coleslaw once by pulse/blending the cabbage in a blenderful of water, then straining, it makes small bits like the coleslaw you get at KFC, not shredded though. You could probably make salsas by pulsing but you won't get a totally even cut, you can't shred or grate or slice like a standard food processor.

Likewise you cannot extract juice as a juicer does, but you can blend whole fruits and veggies and strain through a nut milk or sprout bag, or use a mesh strainer.

1--sure I can do Kansas (though prob will not be recording it since it's way too obvious that I should. Working on Monkees tune instead!!)

So.. I will go to the VM site and check out the videos there. Seems unanimous that I really need to get one ASAP!!!

So glad to hear you will be getting one. My VitaMix would be the hardest thing for me to ever part with. Use it for all my blending needs from green smoothies to eggless deviled egg spread to hummus, sauces, soups (leave it in there blending until warm--yummm) and mock mochas.

Best purchase you will ever make.

This is definitely my next purchase. I just got a food processor which is awesome. But I'll have to make do with my current blender until I get a vita-mix. I can't wait to add nuts and dates to my smoothies. For now...just fruits...can't stand the chunks in my smoothies!

My VM came with a DVD and they demonstrate how to use the VM for choping veggies, so you can use it in place of the FP for that. Some people use it to make juice by blending the veggies with some water then straining out the pulp. When I decided to go raw, a VM was my first purcahse as I thought it would be the most useful.

I got my Vitamix at Costco and many times they have demos there and also at Sams Club. You may want to call the company and see where they will be doing demos locally so you can save on shipping.

I had been thinking of one for years,,, didn't want to spend the $$$. now serious about my health and non cooked/non processed foods.

If you look at the vitamix site, you can get refurbished ones at a discount.
OMG went to COSTCO and they had vitamix... but only for about 4 days... I got one.

I am sooo glad I did. I can now have whole veggie juices... I have smoothies daily and now add whole apples and ooranges and spinach to them. Blenders I dont think can handle greens.

I dont use my blender anymore,,,, yes I'll keep my food processor because I like shredded carrots and cabbage.

it is soo cool though! I made almond milk today and tomorrow will make cashew and almond butter and so much cheaper than in the store!!!

I'm going to go for the reconditioned one...still has the same warranty - and oh, dear, it might have used at a demo! LOL Not much luck on craigslist, and am hesitant about e-bay for this purchase.

I looked on ebay and craigs too... no luck.
I talked to the woman doing the demo at costco.... the newest model is the 5200, you can get the refurbished 5000 for $200 cheaper. The diff is a different handle and the 5200 is quieter.

I got just the large container... the smaller one is for DRY, like if you want to make your own flours.... NOT! smoothies, soups, nut butters, salsa, milks... all work in the container that comes with it.
