Was at the local food co-op, picked up some fruits. :p anyway, so I went to the book section looking for Alissa's book (they didnt have Alissa's book)and came across "Eating in the Raw" by Carol Alt. A supermodel. hrm.

The url for her site: http://www.carolalt.com/livestyle/livestyle.html (http://www.carolalt.com/livestyle/livestyle.html)

EDITED: to pull up Carol Alt's raw food info page. Which in my opinion sucks.

Who else "celebrity" wise is a raw foodist?

*Im ordering Alissa's book possiblt the DVD on Monday. I cannot wait anymore.

Someone mentioned way back that Carol Alt isn't 100% raw either. If I remember, that opened up a huge discussion about whether or not you can or should call yourself "raw" if you eat 99% or 90% or 75% or whatever... how does one even figure out the percentage raw you are unless you're 100%? Do you figure by the number of raw meals you have, the number of raw/cooked calories, the volume of food, eyeballing it, etc? Aaiiee!

I just looked up the other raw people Andy Dick and Dick Gregory. They still have Alicia Silverstones name on the site so guess it must be an old listing.

I work at a raw food deli in NY and Nicole Kidman has come in twice and ordered food. The second time she came in the back to see the kitchen bc she said she was so fascinated by raw food. I think she is totally raw but sh'es definitely interested.

I bought Carol Alt's book as it was in the vegan/vegetarian section of the bookstore and I only thumbed through it. When I got home and read it I was surprised to see that she promotes the eating of raw meat in it.

My hubby and I saw Sting a few months ago. Great concert!

Sting looked so awesome and my husband whispered to me "is he vegetarian"...I said nope "he's raw!".

Interesting. I always, well, from about 5 years ago, loved the music of sting. I have also been thinking of learning steel string guitar and singing. can play flamenco guitar.

That lady from the TV show "the OC" the blond mom, her name is Kristen something...shes raw too, though she does eat meat like Carol Alt. She said that she's eaten this way for 12 years!!! She used to be extremely hypoglycemic, but shes not anymore!!! yeah raw!!

I, personally, enjoyed Carol Alt's book. For someone who was starting, she eased me into the joy of eating Raw. I didn't feel cornered or felt like I was setting myself up to fail. After beginning to eat raw slowly, I found that in the end, I just enjoyed eating completely RAW.

i also started going raw from carol alts book. it seemed non threatening as a beginners book. i actually read it again the other day and it does seem lacking, esp compared to alissas book or some other uncook books. i am embarrassed to say the "celebrity" part of raw was what initially lured me into this lifestyle (i saw an interview with carol alt). i had heard about it in the past, but i thought it was even more extreme than it is (only seeds, nuts, fruit, veggies, no uncooking at all) and seeing a celebrity on it made it seem more attainable for some reason. i am sure it is easier staying raw when you are rich and can have a personal raw chef 24 hours a day! oh the life!!!

i am also reading stings memoir (which is awesome by the way, he is a beautiful writer as well as musician) and i am hoping he writes about being raw at some point (i am only halfway through it).

donna karan (sp?) the designer is raw, she lost a lot of weight on it. may have been awhile though since i saw that.

i am happy i got here, no matter what goofy thing attracted me at first.

I like her book, especially for beginners for whom the whole concept of raw sounds radical and bizarre. She makes it sound very doable and not extreme. It's easy to ignore the raw meat/dairy part. I have a friend that I hope to introduce to raw eating, and that's the book I'm considering because I think it'll be less likely to scare her off.

I had been considering raw for about 3 years, but it was her book that gave me the final push I needed.

I agree .......
If Natures First Law, or The Sunfood Diet were my intro's I wouldn't be as far as i am. yet as I said before through them I found Alissa.
It was her book that changed my husband's diet "some"

If your on a total SAD diet...........I see her diet as a nice smooth transition, because like Alissa says your body starts not wanting the other stuff.

RAW One bite @ a time

That's funny because Nature's First Law was the book that started me on raw & I went 100% raw the day I started reading it! Couldn't put it down! And I was a sad SAD fooder at the time! And pregnant too at the time so I went from eating tons of crap to all raw overnight!

RawVeganMom,

Yes, I too went 100% raw the second I heard about it. It was just what I was looking for, and seemed totally natural for me. It was as if I was meant to be on it and it was calling to me!

I know Clint Eastwood is around 75% raw (he follows the Bragg Healthy Lifestyle which promotes eating at that % raw)

I just got the Vegetarian Starter Kit from Peta and there are a lot of stars listed in there as vegetarian - some of whom I was unaware - like Josh Hartnett and one of the guys from the band Outkast...

>>raw food deli in ny? like nyc? what! where? i'll be there next weekend!<<

Nope, in Woodstock, NY.

If you're going to be in NYC though I'd suggest this place, which is strictly take-out: Jubb's Longevity, 508 E. 12th St., (212) 353 5000. The food is pricey but really delicious. I love the onion rings, which are spicy and crunchy and definitely don't taste like they are good for you.
