I've just arrived in NYC for a few days and was just looking up places to eat.....

I'm going to venture up to Raw Soul in Harlem on 145th St. and also try Jubbs for the first time.

Quintessence and Pure have great food, too. Q - lunch specials, Pure (expensive) for the desserts. There is also a Pure take-out around the corner from the restaurant. Maybe hit it when the Green Market is on in Union Square, which has really nice fresh produce.

If anyone has any other finds, please post them up!

Just thought I'd give a review of my visit to Raw Soul restaurant in Harlem today.

In a word......fabulous!!

For lunch I had a raw burger on flax bread (or you can get cabbage instead of flax), a slightly warm soup of cabbage, artichokes, broccoli, peppers, onions, and sprouts. It was really delicious! The above comes with a warm cup of chai all for $10 (daily lunch special price). The people were very nice and the place is small but serene.

Their menu has a great selection of entrees - (pizzas, burgers, enchiladas, lasagne, etc.), lots of juices, and plenty of coconut based smoothies. It is very accessible - 1/2 block from the train and the bus stop is literally in front of the restaurant. Since the train is an express, I made it from midtown in less than 10 minutes.

I so wish I could stay long enough to attend their upcoming raw prep class this Sunday night -- it looks like a really yummy Thanksgiving menu.

Two thumbs way up.

Just thought I'd give my raw in NYC review for the day....

Tried Jubb's Longevity, and was somewhat of a let down.

Walked about 30 blocks to get there and when I did, there were only two options - a raw brasciole and a raw berry dessert. I'm good at desserts, so I chose the brasciole ($13). It wasn't great. The place is small, and the vibe was far less welcoming than I had imagined. The coolers were bare. I guess maybe people go there for fresh juice and supplements?

Fortunately, I remembered I was only a block from Quintessence, so I went over there and had a fantastic meal, in a welcoming, warm and happy atmosphere. A taco that was to die for, green salad, and a broccoli/shitake dish in a thai garlic black pepper sauce ($23).

is FANTASTIC!! BF and I have been RAVING about it!! Had the tasting menu - OMG - now I have to run out & buy her cookbook!! After dinner we were stuffed, but still went around corner to One Lucky Duck in hopes of scoring some cardamom ice cream (my fave of the five desserts we got to try) - no luck, but ended up with $35 worth of yummy desserts!! Mmmm (oh, that only bought THREE of them!!)

Pricey but fabulous! Definitely a "DO" when in NYC!

I heard Sarma talking about this recently on raw vegan radio... could you tell me what it is exactly? I get visions of marshmallow running through my head when I hear about it! lol.

yes that mallomar is yum. i do not know the exact recipe, but it is a nut cream on top of a cookie covered in chocolate....amazing.

i like PFW for the amazingness - they really take it to a whole other level. I like Bonobos (23rd and Madison) for fresh simple yumminess at reasonable price - you can make your own salads (choose the ingredients), also it is not sit down restaurant - you order at the counter and seat yourself. Caravan of Dreams is good for night time with friends, especially if your friends are not raw, they have live music and a cool gypsy vibe.

PFW is also good for dates, special occasions, but the music is so loud. too loud IMO. summer is great in the garden.:)

I just had the takeout from pure food and wine. I ordered nachos and guacomole. and lasagna. The nachos were out of this world, so thin and crisp and spicy. The gaucomole was good. I find that to be something that is hard to mess up. The lasagna was good too.

I was given a sample of cinamon ice cream that was out of this world.... I thought my frozen banana/ strawberry was good, but now I am on a quest! If I could make that and the nachos, I would be one happy girl!

I am having super in NY friday night and am hoping I can talk my( SAD) girlfriends into eating here...

After two weeks of being 100% raw, I was kinda on the fence about sticking to the raw lifestyle. I was getting bored with the salads i was making. So made the hour drive to One Lucky Duck @ 17th & Irving. This is the take-out cafe to Pure Food and Wine Resturant.

I got the Zucchini and Tomato Lasagna and the chocolate ganache tart. OMG, the Lasagna was soooooo good !!!! I was in awe & in shock at how good it was. The pesto is better than any pesto I ever had. I forced my S.A.D co-worker take a taste. After turning up her nose & refusing cause it's veggies, she took a bite and was really impressed at how good it was.

I thought I was giving up really good chocalate desserts by being raw. The tart kick butt, it was so delicious. This meal was my turning point, I've been commited to almost 100% raw haven't looked back. Now i gotta figure out which one of my s.a.d friend would be willing to go to the resturant with me.
