Hey guys,

I'm thinking about adding some seaweed supplements into my diet for the high mineral content, and I'm wondering which ones are best.

I'm not a guy yet I'll have to ask ~ why not just eat seaweed?

Modifilan Seaweed Extract is a good quality one and very concentrated. I love using kelp or dulse granules on salad or other recipes. Nori rolls are yummy.

I'm willing to eat raw seaweed, too. I actually enjoy the taste. The only raw seaweed I'm able to order locally is cooked, so I was thinking about getting a supplement instead for the raw mineral content. I'm looking at Spirulina (blue-green algae), but I'm not sure which brand would be best to get, or if it is raw. I just need to pump my body full of as many minerals as possible, so I need to know which supplements are best to use, or which raw seaweeds I should buy online.

I use raw nori sheets and kelp. From what I've read, they are pretty good sources. Spirulina is an algae; is that the same as seaweed?

For green sources, I use 1T Vitamineral Green in my green smoothie every morning.

Re-read your post. Is there a particular reason you feel to pump your system full of minerals? Is there a down side to that?

I've been craving greens like crazy lately...I can't seem to get enough of them. And I've had a HUGE seaweed craving, but no way to satisfy it. I'm assuming that my body is mineral deficient and is craving seaweed for that reason.

I'm not sure if Spirulina counts as a seaweed, but since it's full of minerals and considered a superfood (and it comes from the sea), I'm curious if that will be enough to satisfy my craving.

I'm detoxing at a pretty fast rate, though I'm sure I've still got months to go to be where I want to.

I would suggest buying StemTech's Stem Enhance which is a supplement made from algae from Oregon which helps with your stem cells to keep them happy and healthy too. Contact me if you are interested in learning more or go to: http://www.healthyalternatives.stemtechhealth.com and learn how valuable this algae is for your health.

spirulina absolutely rocks. the nutritional profile of just 1 tablespoon will blow you away. highly recommended.

i recommend the brand 'nutrex' i have found this to be the least funky tasting. i would also imagine that anything from sunfood.com would be of superior quality.

spirulina is a blue green algae.

it's hard at first to get used to taste. but after only a couple months i can now consume 2 or more tablespoons a day.

i recommend adding to green juice that's been spicked with ginger and grapefruit. this really knocks the taste. major health benefits...

I'm in the same boat as you, man - just really craving greens, seaweed, etc - can't seem to get enough of it. I agree with the spirulina suggestion - I'm lucky enough to have a HFS that has it in bulk here, which saves me on some money (but also means that I can't recommend a specific brand to you - but it probably doesn't matter too much - that stuff ROCKS!). I was all set to get Vitamineral Green after seeing the creator's interview on the RAwkathon, but then I didn't find it at the store. So while waiting to buy it online, I got something similar, the Whole Paycheck brand. I tell you what, man, my body hums after putting that stuff in a green smoothie!! It's no joke. So I'd recommend just any green powder you can get your hands on. I wasn't expecting that one to be that great, but man alive, it sure was!

I've bought seaweed from rawfromthefarm.com and therawfoodworld.com. I got excellent service and products from both.

My favorites are wakame (for the greens) and dulse (flakes to sprinkle liberally in a regular salad).

Is there an asian store in your area? They usually carry wakame at a reasonable price, but of course you have no idea what temperatures is used to dry it. The quality seems pretty good to me, though.

Susan

PS - thanks for the reminder. I'm headed for the kitchen to soak me some wakame:)

You can get big, 1 lb packs of dulse and some other stuff from natural zing, at a lot cheaper than buying the small amts in the hfs or from other sites. dulse is palatable enough to use in recipes, especially salads, like kale-avocado-orange-dulse salad, and sea lettuce is also tender enough.
