We're coming up on November!

If you're ready to commit to a full month of raw eatin' during November, make your declaration known right here!

Then once November arrives, a brand new 30-Day Challenge will commence!

Please be sure to read the rules for the challenge if you are new to the forum and/or the 30-day raw challenge. Just a quick reminder, the purpose and main goal is to eat ALL RAW for 30 days. Sometimes you may slip, sometimes you may consciously decide to incorporate a little bit of cooked food...all your personal choice BUT...we do NOT discuss cooked food, even slip ups here in the challenge threads. That is best for your journal/blog if you have one.

I'm ready to re-up -- almost a year off after nine months of totally raw. Need to focus, focus, focus for the first few days. They're by far the hardest. Taking a long weekend - Saturday -- Tuesday to get rolling.

Don't forget to vote on Tuesday if you haven't been able to early vote. Take a raw food book to read -- the lines may be long.

Good morning! I just got done making my first RAW granola and just popped it in the dehydrator, if it tastes as good as when it went in ... we have a winner. I sprouted and dehydrated my first buckwheat to do this and love the crispy texture.

So, my food for the day looks like:

B - Banana/Strawberries/Grapes
L - Smoothie - orange/banana/kale/sesame (first time I've tried sesame and it is really good)
D - Salad with some marinated portobella mushrooms/asparagus/mache (and possibly dehydrated a bit).

I'm hoping to spend some more time in the kitchen today making some crackers and stuff but we will see.

Blessings,
Heather

Hey Deb and Heather! :) Good to see you this morning!

I'm drinking a green smoothie of spinach, frozen peaches, and banana. I also added a 1/2 cup of a nut/seed milk I made to use in smoothies--1/3 cup almonds, 1 heaping tsp each chia and hemp seed, 2 tsp flax seed + 3 c water. No straining! I really like it, might add some dates next time, and no incessant spooning of stuff into the blender when I'm in a hurry! I figure this will make 6 smoothies (some for Mr.Liza, too, of course!). It ought to keep 3-4 days. I so prefer the texture of smoothies with a milk of some sort.

I made some raw nut butter for my SIL in the champion juicer they gave me for my birthday and she really liked it, requested more. She also asked me to bring her some samples of my raw pates, etc. So, yay for that.

I'm planning on making a new recipe of raw cracker today and will post if it turns out--or not! ;)

Still have corn soup and salad makings, still not tired of it, so more of that on the menu today. Not sure what else.

Hi All! Count me in for November! This is my first time writing, but I have been reading your threads, etc. for months! It has been very inspiring and motivating for me. I have completed two 30 day cycles of 100% raw, unfortunately not consecutively, but have been at least 60-70% raw for the last year. I look forward to being 100% raw in November, but I know I will need a lot of support since it will be my first RAW holiday season and the invitations are already pouring in! I can't wait to get to know all of you!!

Green Juice for breakfast so far!

I'm here, too :)

Started the day with a quart and a half of green smoothie (orange, lemon, salad mix and kale). Later, after my work out, I snacked on a bowl of purple grapes while fixing a salad for lunch made of purple cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, peppers and cilantro.
I'm going to go into work this afternoon and am planning on bringing a couple of apples for a snack. Not sure what's for dinner yet.

I wish everybody a rawsome day :D

Hi everyone,

what a beautiful day!

I usually do not eat breakfast or dinner, rather I prefer to eat between 12.00 and 3.00pm.

Today I had
1 banana
1 Bosc pear
1fuji apple
2 raw sprouted flaxseed crackers with a thin layer of avocado and sliced Roma tomatoes
1 piece of coconut cream pie.

It seems a little heavy on the sweet side, but I am sure things will balance out in time.

Lots of love and light

Green Smoothie made with bananas, cherries, spirulina, ground flax seed and lots of kale.

Salad with kale, tomatoes, celery, carrots, pepitas, cucumber.

Went to Whole foods and have lots to choose from for the rest of the day. Happy Day One, All and have a great night sleeping an extra hour...YES!!

Spent most of the day loving the rain -- the first for many months in the Bay area. A great day to hunker down and focus on getting started. Cleaned out the refrigerator, shopped. Soaking and planning. I feel good just thinking about being raw again!

One thing ... what's the thought on warm organic green tea? In my prior 9 mos raw I never had any and really missed it. Lots of antioxidants. ??

What a great day! So good to see familiar faces and some new ones too! I rarely have a Saturday that isn't really busy, well today was one of those days and I got to spend time in the kitchen. I made coconut chocolate cookies (currently on the recipe thread), Mediteranean Almond Bread and Granola. I dressed some mache with crushed garlic, a bit of EVOO, sea salt and fresh ground pepper for with our salad tonight and my children were fighting over who got the last of it! I LOVE it when that happens.

Finished up the day with a weird thing. My glass refrigerator dish lid chipped into the contents of the dish (my soup). Luckily, I saw the chip before I started eating it, but I couldn't be sure there wasn't more glass in the soup, so I had to throw it. I didn't have anything to sub for the soup. I ate my already-prepared green salad, later had a grapefruit, and even later, a handful of homemade trail mix.

I've been so happy to have glass fridge dishes...but now I just want to go back to plastic....:(

Large Green salad with avocado (craving avo today)

I'm doing fine, feeling great, on Day 2 of my cleanse. My skin is trying to break out a little. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person I know who celebrates getting a breakout on my face! Hey - it just means I'm detoxing, and that's a GREAT thing! :)

I will have to say this though. Although I don't hate the lemonade, I'm not exactly in love with it either. So I have to say I like plain ol' juice fasting better so far. But we'll see how it goes!

Deb - I love that pineapple salad, it is one of my standbys for potluck dinners ... and I usually have leftovers for the next day ..mmmm.

Sunshine - That lemonade ... I know exactly what you mean, I just got done with a 21 day MC and I had said to my mom that I thought they made the lemonade not TO good and not TO bad but neutral so that the mind isn't food centered it is fast centered. But I actually grew to strongly dislike the lemonade by the end of my fast and had to choke it down to get it down. I will be juice fasting when I fast again. With that said, I did keep off 15 of the 20 lbs. I lost during my fast, so I am pleased.

Potluck went well and I have half the pineapple left but suprisingly ALL the sausage that came went and ALL the bacon went - ugh. At least I have already cut up pineapple for tomorrow :) I ate an avocado right before everyone arrived I am craving green today, I am looking forward to my salad tonight.

Blessings,
Heather

Just came back from the gym a little while ago and am eating half a cucumber, radishes, carrots, and broccoli. And some shredded purple cabbage with a hot pepper and kelp mixed in. Craving hot peppers lately for some weird reason.
For breakfast and lunch was a green smoothie with various kinds of greens, oranges, a lemon and DHA oil.
I also took two doses of GSE in water.

And I'm having the strangest cravings for garlic and onions... lots of them. Haven't eaten them in months - my body will smell like them for days:o Trying not to give into the cravings.

Thinking fruit for dinner :)

Hello everyone,

day 2 and I am grateful for another day of raw foods. I was surprised by an unexpected group of relatives who insisted on taking me and my children to lunch. I managed to sip water for 2 hours under the pretext that I am on a special exercise program. My family knows and supports me 100% on my raw foods diet. But I don't care to explain myself to people who are totally foreign to the idea that the type of food you ingest matters.

Finally at 3:00pm I had

1 banana
1 Bosc pear
2 pumpkin flaxseed crackers with avo and tomatoes
1 slice of raw peach pie

Lots of love and light

Unexpected twist!

I met my 20 year old son and his girlfriend at ... drum roll ... Red Lobster. Aside from loving him dearly, the only blessing was that they have a dinner salad that is just lettuce, tomato and shredded carrot. A lesson about enjoying the company -- not just the food. (Good thing I'm stocked up at home!!)

A good raw day.

Good morning! Had a great evening yesterday... went over to a friend's house and rode their horse. I love doing things that totally don't involve food. I ended up eating medateranean almond bread with tomatoes and sprouts for dinner instead of the salad I had planned but it was good. I probably won't make that bread recipe "as is" again, it is a little strong for my taste and I didn't even put all the herbs suggested in it. I will probably get a batch of Ani Phyo's black sesame bread in the dehydrator today. And I'm hoping to make a butternut squash (instead of pumpkin) pie today but it will possibly wait until tomorrow ... we shall see. I'm really wanting to try out some soup recipes but am chicken because the few times I've tried it's not been good.

Food for today:

Pear
GS
Sandwich of avo/tomatoe/onion/sprouts
Big salad with the last of my mache
Maybe something chocolate for dessert (unless I get to that pie)

Good morning all!

Today begins Day 3 of the Master Cleanse for me. I've released just over 5 lbs. in two days! Have to say, I'm loving that! But I'll be glad when the 10 days is up, just cuz of the lemonade. I much prefer my juice.

That being said, I had the weirdest detox dream. I had a dream we went and ate at all my past favorite cooked food places. Then I woke up with HORRID breath and body odor. So I guess whatever my body had stored, was released a bit last night. Strange, I know. Needless to say, I did NOT wake up craving them, not with that awful taste/feeling in my mouth!:p

the plan for the rest of the day:

- more brussell sprouts from yesterday (they got really crispy and tasty in the dehydrator)
- the rest of the avo shake
- some fresh figs
- apple-celery juice

exercise plan:

I haven't been feeling well today so I've been sipping on tea all day avoiding the food thing a bit..:( I do feel a little hungry now and am going to look into the fridge if there's anything appealing in there.

Oranges
pears
Alissa's coleslaw
Roxanne's cashew cheese and celery

Oceanluv - thanks for your work at the polls. It's important! I'd take fruit and cut vegetables. I bet you'll be so busy the day will just slide by.

I can't remember who was taking a mid-term, but I hope it went well.

I'm going to Cafe Gratitude tomorrow morning to get a bottle of their wine so we can sip away while watching the election returns.:)

Feeling good!

oceanluv, whole fruits and cut veggies would probably be easiest. you could bring some nut butter or dip in a little container. or if you have time tonight you could mix up some kind of energy balls; i do shredded coconut, tahini or nut butter, spirulina/other powders, dried fruit of some kind, cacao if you want. adjust til its the right consistency.

it is really good to see lots of familiar faces. :) hi deb, hi aleesha!

only got to the gym for 10 minutes before pilates but oh well, 1 hour 10 minutes is way more exercise than i ever did in a day a year ago.

hi beckx!!!

i just created this recipe... from something i saw online:

3 persimmons cubed (leave the peel on)
1 pomegranate - only the seeds
1 cup chopped raw hazelnuts
3/4 cup radishes diced
Juice of 1/2 a lemon

mmm doesn't that sound delish?

anyway, i ordered a box of 70 persimmons today... and a case of tomatoes. they'll be ready to pick up tomorrow. i'm so excited about this.

guys! you are all doing so great!

I have not been able to post-really busy with commitments.

I've been 100% raw and going strong.

I've been indulging in salads consisting of veggies and fruit for lunch and dinner and fruit like watermelon for breaky.

Feeling really great today after recovering from a really minor but persistant headach yesterday.

Was reading in past threads about cleansing the face with a mixture of castor and olive oil and tried it. How fantastic. Does anyone have a recepie for shampoo and conditioner?

WELCOME BACK STARFIRE! :D

Okay, okay. I'm a big girl, and I'm admitting defeat. Actually, not defeat. I stopped my MC last night with some shredded apples. I could NOT drink another glass of that stuff. It's not horrible per se, but when the thought of it even makes you want to vomit, it's not a good thing. Not for me anyway.

I've decided I like juices much better. :) And that's just fine by me. I do have some frame of reference now for when people ask me questions about it though.

Today so far has been a couple of shredded apples. I'm about to have some more here in a bit. At least I'm being smart about it, and not going straight from the cleanse to cooked food (did that in 2004 after a 21 day juice fast).

So, I'm in this for the food now too! :) I'll let ya'll know what I'll be making in the next couple of days! :D

Happy Day 4 everyone!

It's another Glorious day here in MI, clear, warm, beautiful Fall day......

After a big GS of banana, spinach, some almonds and water {like it much better w/o the hemp seeds}....went with my family and Voted....Hooray!!!!

Made some of Alissa's almond butter balls yesterday...great to have some while preparing dinner for my family. I still have some pea soup left, but somehow it doesn't appeal to me. Salads are much more appealing these days. I don't seem to like soups made with nuts, but ALissa's watermelon soup and savory tomato/basil/onion/garlic/olive oil type of soups work well for me. I'm cleaning up the fridge and using what we have....we'll be heading out of town for Thanksgiving and I'm gearing up for that....so likely nothing too fancy these days for me...simpler is good....

SHine...Way to go to know your body and no, don't drink it if your body is telling you to clearly not to....good for you too for sticking with the Challenge and not just diverting to non-Raw....We're glad you're with us here!

I'm still full from my smoothie, but will have:

apples
salad with Alissa's honey mustard dressing {my kids love it too!}
avos eaten in some form: guac or choco pudding
almond butter balls
watermelon
and whatever else seems good on hand.....

Have a Wonderfully Raw Voting Day!!! warmly, Deb

Good morning! Well, I've got the same cold my kiddos have - ugh. So, I was up in the middle of the night not able to breathe through my nose and finally ended up falling back to sleep on the sofa at 5:30 for at least a couple more hours before everyone else was up. I would really like to juice the whole day but don't have the produce in the house and don't know that I really feel like going to the store today.

Food for today:
So far I've had about 32 oz. grapefruit/strawberry juice

I don't know what's next.

shine i was reading a blog posting by a guy named mango. he was saying that our body lets us know when it's had enough of something by changing the taste of it.

last night i was eating tomatoes and they didn't taste good at all. i asked my hubby if he wanted to finish them and he said, "wow these are REALLY good tomatoes!!!" that showed me how true mango's statements were.

sounds like your body was saying the same thing to you. honour and cherish that... and be proud that you listened!!! (((hugs)))

pineapple juice for me right now... sipping it slowly as i type. i'll be picking up my case of persimmons today... very excited to enjoy those over the next week! (if they last that long LOL)

Heather, sorry you're sick. Juices really help, so I hope you can get some produce somehow today.

Last night, I went to get my hair cut and there was kid in there eating fast food. It looked and smelled uncharacteristically good to me and that made me feel very anxious.

When I got home, I knew I needed something extremely filling. I made a cream of asparagus soup and after putting it in the bowl, I put some lima beans in it for extra stick-to-the-ribs-ish-ness. It was really good! I finished with a couple of raw crackers with honey spread on them. Weirdly satisfying meal.

Today, I've had an apple (my current favorite breakfast) and part of a Go Raw granola bar. Planning on a salad for lunch and the rest of the g-bar for a snack along with a fruit cup or a banana that I'll pick up when I get my salad. Dinner will be the rest of the soup and the spinach I skipped yesterday.

No snacking on nuts at work today because I don't have any more!

Emma-Liza - No I didn't go get more produce but may still make it out this afternoon. Thanks for the thoughts and congrats on the victory of overcoming the smell of fast food. Is your avatar your NEW haircut? If so, I LOVE it!

I think it's new strategy time for me. I think it will be best for me if I pack my lunch like I'm going to work, because this deciding what I'm gonna have for lunch at lunch time (when I'm hungry) is not wise and is a formula for failure. So, tomorrow morning (or tonight) I will make my lunch for tomorrow and see how that works. I have been spending time on Steve Pavlina's website today, he is a very motivational writer and is currently on day 10 of a 92 day juice feast. So, I had my 32 oz. Grapefruit/Strawberry Juice and 16 oz. Cacao/Maca/Almond milk ... I think that last pear in the fridge is calling my name next.

I had a good day today. Was rather hungry as I wasn't feeling well yesterday and so didn't eat except for dinner, which was a bowl of cauliflower and some radishes.
Today I started the day with a bunch of spinach and cilantro plus an apple. Lunch was a green smoothie with braising greens, 2 oranges and a lemon. After work I ate a bowl of shredded purple cabbage, carrots, different varieties of peppers, radishes and a tomato dressing. Later I had some tomato soup with more peppers and carrots and half a green smoothie with a cup of grapes, braising greens and a lemon.

Seems like a lot:o and I still feel like I could eat more...but I think I'll wait till tomorrow;)

Hi everyone

I did not have any time to post yesterday, but it was a great day with delicious, raw, live foods. I seem to be on a certain food track where I have

1 banana
1 pear
1 apple
2 raw crackers with avocado, tomato and a sprinkle of Celtic sea salt
1 slice of raw peach or pumpkin pie

each day. So far I am totally enjoying this menu. On the 10. I am supposed to receive Alyssa's book and CD, which is very inciting and from what I have read very inspirational.

My cold is still hanging on but at least I slept last night. I swallowed 2 cloves of garlic before bed and it worked so that I could breathe, but poor hubby I was not good to smell. I got up this morning and drank a salt water flush to push the mucus through and will consume more garlic through the day. I don't know why I never think of taking garlic until I'm really bad .

So, I started my new habit this morning. I have packed and stacked all my food for today (until dinner time). I don't have to do anything but grab a fork at lunch time. I love it already.

Food for today:

24 oz GS - Kale/Banana/Pineapple
cut up strawberries
2 slices of almond bread
chunky guacamole and sprouts (for on the bread)
4 baby carrots
marinated mache

I have lots of food prep to work on today (LOTS of bananas to freeze, tomatoes to dehydrate and make into sauces, double batch of almond mylk to make, dressings to make), and I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of.

PERFECT! My plan WORKED! I ate my lunch without even every once thinking about eating what my kids were eating (not that they eat all that bad but not all raw either). How long do "they" say it takes to make something into a habit??? 21 days? 30? This is something I will be really trying to focus on the remainder of this month and hopefully from then on. So, I've eaten all my food except for my strawberries I will have later. I think I'm going to try Ani Phyo's Rawzagna for dinner with a salad and make chia "rice pudding" for dessert. My family has agreed to have all raw dinner on Wednesday (the day my mom and dad DON'T eat with us) so we can try some new stuff.

YAY! :D Heather's feeling on the mend! Woooooohoooooo! :D

Yes, I am obnoxiously happy today! Hubby gets home tonight, I got oodles done yesterday, gonna get more done today, LIFE IS GREAT!

Last night I made 4 batches of marinara sauce (2 diff. kinds) and stuck them in the freezer. I know, I know, that's cheating. But if you lived with my vultures, you'd do ANYTHING you possibly could to get ahead too! AND, over the last two (or was it three?) days I froze about 20 pounds of bananas (it was about 1/2 of the 40# box). This morning I made 3 batches of almond mylk. And I'm thawing some of the bananas to make banana bread with the pulp!
Also, I have buckwheat soaking. Part of it is to make Alissa's calzone crust later, only, I'll be making mini pizza crusts with it instead. It's very good! The rest of the buckwheat (I soaked 6 cups total), will be mixed with gelled chia seeds, sea salt, maple syrup, and cinnamon to make a cereal in the dehydrator! :D

So far today, I've had a superfood shake made with some of the almond mylk. Now I'm gonna do my appreciations, and then go back to my cleaning spree I started yesterday! :D

I'll check in later if I can!

Good morning! Yay, I feel like myself this morning!

So, I had 3/4 of a pan of that Rawzagna recipe left over and I HATE wasting stuff so I decided to try it out as a pate, and as I was mixing it in my FP I realized HOW MUCH volume I had so I took 3/4 of what I had and spread it on a dehydrator sheet and am making some crackers out of it AND I still had enough to eat some as a pate (over half of it got eaten with dinner last night). I also made some of Ani Phyo's Black Sesame Bread (using regular sesame seeds) and that is done this morning. So, I've packed all my food for today and I LOVE how this is working out for me.

Food for today:

GS - kale/sesame/banana/pineapple
Rawzagna pate with celery sticks
flax crackers with avo and sprouts
pineapple
chia pudding
Salad

Have a GREAT raw day, I'm off to the library and grocery shopping today :)

Heather, what a great save! I'll keep that in mind for future recipes I'm not wild about....

So far today, I'm having a peach/banana smoothie made with my proprietary ;0 blend all-purpose seed and nut milk.

Lunch plan is for my usual salad bar (I've been on a romaine kick this week).
Dinner -- not sure. We need to go to Whole Foods, so might get salad bar from there; if not today, tomorrow for sure. If I eat at home tonight, it will have to be something from the freezer, like pea soup, or another smoothie.

Hello everyone,

three days have already gone by, since my last blog. This has been a great challenge so far. I have enjoyed every bite of the foods I have chosen. I am extremely grateful to live in a place where one can buy raw foods, such as crackers and desert apart from organic greens, when time to prepare foods becomes an issue.

Today I am having

1 banana
1 bosc pear
1 apple
1 small kale avocado salad
2 pumpkin seed flax crackers
1 piece of peach pie

I also feel I have a lot more energy for my exercise routine.

Lots of love and light to all of you

I'm such a dork!

I came here to post and posted my appreciations instead!:p Now that I have them in the right spot:rolleyes:.......

I'm still here, still raw, just been gone all day. And I wasn't supposed to be. So that put a little glitch in my plans for the day (food making, cleaning, purging). And I only left the house with a water bottle!

All was good though. Went to the commissary while on base and got a container of grape tomatoes and some nuts. Ate all the tomatoes, and ate the pistachios, a little of cashews and a little of almonds. Gave hubby the rest. Before we left the house, I had goji/lemon water and raw banana bread - YUM!

Now my son is being a sweetheart and making me a yummy salad like he had earlier!

And......

tomorrow's my birthday and hubby was a SWEETHEART and got me a 5# bulk bag of organic dehydrated mangos! Can you say HEAVEN! I don't need diamonds or pearls, just give me my raw foods baby! :D

'Morning All!
After a glorious and warm, clear week...it is chilly, cloudy, and snowing today! Eek! and I have a bit of a cold {thanks Heather hee-hee}!!
Overall, I am sleeping better and feeling lighter...hooray!

So today...still keeping it simple....

smoothies and salads, mainly smoothies. I may just dig out some tomatoes frozen from my garden and make a savory soup in the VM later...yes, I think I will do that...wish I had some basil, but I do have some hardy herbs in my garden that would be tasty...

might make a cracker if I have all ingredients...I think I do....will see how the rest of the day pans out....off to get the tomatoes from the basement...have a great Day! Deb

Good morning and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sunshine! Well, my leftover RawZagna crackers that I made from my recipe that nobody liked taste like PIZZA! They are SO good. I love that I didn't waste that food AND I love the crackers.

Food for today:

This is what I've had so far ...
4 RAWzagna crackers (I could have just kept eating but stopped myself)
Banana with raw granola and pineapple/apple/walnut cream
4 baby carrots

I will likely make a juice this afternoon for a snack (or a smoothie)
And a large salad for dinner

I'm off to do a little shopping (need a new veggie tray for salad bar night :)). Have a GREAT raw day!

Blessings,
Heather

Hellooo.....Started the day with water and a bit later a pinapple and watermelon juice.

Just came back from little nippers with the girls. Participated in a towel race and realise I really need to work on my fitness levels even though being highly hydrated and light I feel like I'm still recovering an hour later. I think I just feel a bit weaker and vague today.

I will be having a huge salad for lunch with rocket, spanish onion, garlic, tomatoe, cucumber, capsicum and olives. Anyway that will probably see me through for the rest of the day. I'm noticing that my appetite is non existentfor the majority of the time and then all of a sudden it comes alive.

Have a great Eighth Raw Day everyone!

Thank you all so much for the bday wishes!:D

I had a GREAT day! We went to Lovin' It Live, which is a raw food restaurant in ATL. LOVED IT! :D It was my first time going. And we'll be going back, that's for sure!

I got a Red Zinger tea (they don't cook it, they steep it overnight in water!) and a cucumber salad and tacos. Hubby got the nachos. There was SO much! I had to have hubby eat one of my tacos! And I tried his nachos too. Delish! :D

Before they opened, we stopped by Arden's Garden and I got a wheatgrass shot and then we spit and orange/peach/mango/papaya smoothie. SSSSSOOOOOOO yummy! Other than that, I've had some mango slices, and some candy my daughter made for me for my birthday (raw).

Have a WONDERFUL day 8 ya'll! :D

Ok, so here I am 8 days late and an entire paycheck short, but what the heck, I wanna join!!!!!

I have been gone FAR TO LONG!

While I have not lost ground with my weight, I have only lost a few pounds more. What was I thinking?

I http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u55/BJ_BOBBI_JO9/Food%20and%20eating%20related/frdg.gif.... and I am indeed ready to go! Thai coconuts (OMG YUM!), tons of fruits, veggies and salad fixins. Mangos, avos, apples, ...it's all in there!

I have been absolutely been craving RP's brownies and Alissa's fudgeballs.

I got myself a rebounder at WallyWorld with a counter and tubes for arm exercises and a walking dvd with belt for arm workout and they are both really fun. I nearly have a full workout room downstairs now. Now that it is getting colder outside I like to avoid outside as much as possible.

I am growing tomatoes in my sunroom. They are about 10 inches tall right now. I am thinking of doing lettuce and cucumbers also. I also have one pepper plant about three feet tall. It's all good!

(jealous of Star in Hawaii though.....it is fruit heaven there!)

Ok, I am off to get my breakfast ready for day one. Very excited.

Oh yeah, exciting times around the tigger household. As some might know, dh and I are not so much dh and dw...heh. Long story. However, we are planning a New Year's Eve wedding with just us , the kids and a couple of others. How fun and romantic is that? Right here at home in front of the fireplace in our living room! The judge is a friend of ours and lives right next door. How convenient is that??? :D I am a bit nervous since we have only known each other about fourteen years. Takes awhile to get to know someone, right? heh.

Ok, NOW I am off to prepare my super orange power breakfast!

I have been great! Not as raw as I should be, but I am getting there.

DH switched jobs and is now with a company out of Atlanta. He will be flying there again Tomorrow morning. Maybe I will be able to sneak along one of these days! For now we are staying here, but there is a chance we would move eventually. First to somewhere like Colorado though. If he stays with the company we might consider Atlanta in the future. I sure hate to uproot again though. Sigh.

I had an amazingly yummy dinner last night--grated beet with a bit of grated onion and oil & vinegar dressing. It was so good, I ate the entire beet. Raw beet is so tender and flavorful. And this little slaw is a super-quick weeknight supper. I also ate some lima beans, some walnuts, and a seed cracker.

Today, I ate at McDonald's. Really. Two side salads and my own dressing. I was in a rush going from one thing to another and this is what I had time to procure for myself. I do not recommend patronizing that place, but it's nice to know I can deal with it when I have to!

I snacked on some pecans. Then for dinner, salad bar from Whole Foods. Last thing for the day was a chunk of a raw revolution bar (maybe a third of the bar).

It's been a couple days. I'm still in. I want to have my birthday and have a cake like that ... or even just a picture of the cake!

My son is home from college and he (lovingly) makes great fun of me for eating raw -- well, what's a 20-yr old supposed to do.

I made Almond Nog (recipe in the newletter from Raw Family -- just got it yesterday) and curled up with Newsweek to read "How He Did It" issue in front of the fire. A happy afternoon.

Made carrot and flax crackers (from Cafe Gratitude recipe) and ate with guacamole.

ALMOND NOG

1 cup soaked almonds
3 cups water
2 bananas
2 Tbs. agave nectar
1 tsp. alcohol free vanilla
1 tsp. nutmeg

Blend soaked almonds and water until pureed. Strain almond milk to remove pulp, use either a strainer or a nut bag. Pour milk back into blender, add bananas, agave, vanilla, and nutmeg. Blend completely. Serve with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top. Makes two glasses.

Almond Nog (non-alcoholic)
The raw foodies at Smart Monkey foods give you this healthy, delicious raw food nog.
1/4 cup almonds. Soak in filtered water for 8-12 hours and rinse well
5 dates, pitted
1/2 pod vanilla bean, optional
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
3 cups coconut water or filtered water
Blend ingredients with one cup water until smooth, Then, add remaining two cups water, blend and drink! Almond nog will keep for several days in the fridge, and makes a great morning drink, too!

Hello, I am new here! I hope it is ok to Jump in today!!

I am highly allergic to many thing, Wheat, oats, all nuts, most seeds, eggs, dairy, corn, soy......among many others. So Prior to today........I lived off of cooked and raw veggies and rice....literally thats it, because I was scared of having a reaction to something.........I ate safe.

For the past couple of days I have tried to not cook veggies, and did fine with that, but I think I have been having rice withdrawals!! I get very dizzy and lightheaded! Its awful!! ...but..................today is the day!!! .........

I am going to start off with a banana, im not too hungry right now.......Possible a green smoothie if I have time!!

I have a lot of apples and pears so I am going to bring those to work with me. I have access to a full kitchen (I am a personal assistant at someones house, so I can eat all of their food!!! lol usually lots of fresh stuff). I will probably throw an avocado in there!!

Dinner will be a green smoothie!

sarahrjm - WELCOME! Hope you have a GREAT day!

Well, it's Monday and I'm going to try to be on the computer less ... I've been spending to much time sitting on my butt. So, I will check in this evening. I am wanting to incorporate one day a week of juice fasting into my schedule and I think It's going to be Tuesday (at least this week) and I'll see how that works. Hey, you know how kids sell stuff for fundraisers for school ... well, a teenager we know pulled out the infamous sales flyer yesterday and it was ALL FRUIT! I was so pleased I could help her out and get some Florida Citrus at the same time! I ordered 20 lbs. of grapefruit and 20 lbs. of navel oranges. But they won't be here until sometime in December :(.

Food for today:

Pear (probably 2)
Bananas and Pineapple with granola and pineapple/walnut cream
Chocolate Shake
Large Salad

Blessings,

Welcome, sarahrjm! Being a personal assistant sounds like interesting work.
Heather, I envy your grapefruit bonanza. I had my first Florida grapefruit last week (not quite ready, IMO) and my first Texas grapefruit this morning (super sweet!). See if you can get the Texas ones till your order comes in. By that time, Florida's will also be sweet and delicious and we grapefruit fans will be in grapefruit heaven all winter!

B--large Texas Star grapefruit; 2 Tbs sunflower seeds (fruit first, seeds later)
L--salad: spinach, carrot, and sprouts w/ sprinkle of raisins & pumpkin seeds
S--apple and/or flax crackers
D--salad: mixed leaf lettuce, tomato, peas, onions and mushrooms w/ avocado dressing
S--tea; part of a raw bar

Thanks for the head's up, I love grapefruit and was spoiled when we lived in FL, people would OFTEN give us buckets full of them. And my in-laws have a tree, and we had a tangelo tree ... sigh. But I love living where the seasons change better. I believe my shipment of citrus should be in mid to end of December so I would imagine the grapefruit should be nice by then. Until then I'll look for ones from Texas.

Good morning! I've been juicing for an hour and a half! I made 2 quarts of apple/spinach/lemon juice which was gone before I even tasted it (hubby took half with him to work and the kiddos drank the other half). Then I made my favorite... apple/spinach/celery - A WHOLE GALLON JUST FOR ME :D. I am going to try an all juice day. For several years I have wanted to incorporate one day a week of juice fasting into my life and have just never done it - not even once. So, today is the day! Happy Veterans Day! :D

I'm thinking grapefruit juice for breakfast. I had like 6 things I was trying to juice from, and I think that won out. (The others were apples, oranges, pomengranates, superfood shake, ban. split choc. shake.) Something about how light and refreshing grapefruit juice is (I'll probably add chlorella and green powder w/some Stevia too), made it win out! :D It also ends up giving me a serious energy boost!

Good morning everyone

I haven't posted anything for a few days, just got too busy, but I am still going full force. So far it has just been a fantastic experience. I received Alyssa's book and DVD yesterday. I am watching her video right now. I can only recommend it, especially if one is just starting out.

Today I had

2 bananas

and I am going to have

Avo-kale salad with pumpkin flax crackers
1 apple
1pear
and maybe 1 raw pecan tart.

I am noticing that too many sweets especially combined with nuts seem to drain my energy. So I am still debating the pecan tart.

Lots of love and light

Had a vet visit this AM with one of my dogs, got home and still wasn't hungry, so I came in to work. Mr.Liza wanted to go eat right away, so I've finished my lunch and it isn't even noon. That is very odd for me; usually I eat breakfast about 10:00 and lunch no earlier than 12:30.

So far today I've had a salad bar salad with homemade tahini dressing. I loooove tahini.

Also have on hand: fresh fruits, seeds, flax crackers.

Leaving work early to meet my nieces (3 & 5), who are coming over to spend the night. That means facing down the cooked (albeit vegetarian) food they will want for supper. I'll have a salad of some sort.

So good to see you back. And remember GARLIC works wonders for congestion. Just take a clove (or 2 if you can handle it) and chop it into size pieces you can swallow like a pill and get down as many as you can, you will feel better and usually FAST. This especially helped me sleep through the night if I did it right before bed. Take care of yourself.

So happy to see you here Wendi! :D

Well, me and hubby went to dinner last night at a VERY S.A.D restaurant. And guess what?! They made me the BEST salad EVER! :D So I'm a happy camper! It had romaine, cranberries, orange slices, pecans, and red peppers! And it was HUGE, HUMONGOUS, GINORMOUS even! I left satisfied and so happy! ;D

Today so far has been some dried organic mango (yes, I know, I'm officially an addict), and a salad. I burnt out the inside of my mouth last night with oregano oil (don't ask), so everything is tasting pretty funny to me right now.

I think I'll have a shake or superfood smoothie of some sort later. Something that's cooling to my mouth. Yeah, kiddo made my salad earlier, and the ACV in the dressing was killing my poor mouth! Ah well, you live and learn right?!

Have a GREAT raw day everyone! :D

Good morning! I am moving slow today but doing better than yesterday. I tried something new this morning ... I've never had a raw persimmon ... Mmmm! I tried the Fuyu variety and it is so sweet and yummy. I think I'm gonna try to find a tree to plant on our property in the spring.

Food for today so far:
GS - spinach/pear/pineapple/cinnamon/nutmeg
persimmon

Don't know what is next maybe some corn with sliced avocado with some EVOO and fresh ground pepper and sea salt. Yep, I think that's going to be lunch.

Blessings,
Heather

L--salad bar w/my own dressing
S--peas
D--unknown ;)

Updated to add dinner, Nomi Shannon's Marvelous Mushroom Soup. It made a bit more than a cup, as I added extra water and extra mushrooms. After dinner, I had a small handful of raisins and a cup of tea.

Hello Everyone!

I know it is the middle of the month...I never end up joining in on these monthly challenges because I Always end up wanting to start in the middle of the month.

So I am joining in this time anyway....

I have to go to a wedding on Dec.23 and it's helping give me a bit of a kick in the butt. I have to walk down the aisle with some young dashing bachelor, and I would like to match! -as opposed to looking like the mom of 6 that I am :P

Anyways, I have dabbled in raw food eating on and off for a long time. I have been strictly vegetarian for almost a year and am newly vegan.

I just enjoyed a delicious smoothie, went grocery shopping and am planning a scrumptous salad for later.

Gonna marinade some mushrooms and onions too and then dehydrate them (in my oven on low with the door cracked open).

Cheers everyone!

Wishing you all a beautiful and wonderful Thanksgiving:D

deberaw - Have you tried making some miso garlic soup in the Vitamix (don't know if you have one or not). I would get it to just warm enough (without actually cooking it) and slurp that bad boy down! Miso is very good for you, and garlic will kill dang near anything in good enough quantities. ;)

Had my banana-split choc. shake for breakfast. We began adding chia seeds to it as well. Doesn't affect the taste, but keeps us fuller for longer! Score!

Flipped the 7 trays of salsa/flax crackers in D1 earlier. About to put some apple/cinn./raisin crackers in D2 shortly. :)

I have a bit of the almond cheeze base I used to make ricotta last night, so I'm going to make that into more of a sweet cream cheeze to go on top of the crackers that are going into D2! :D

Hope ya'll have a RAWMACIOUS day! :D Hugs and love!

Still here... a whole day of raw down :)
Feeling very content about it all.

Yesterday I had:
Banana-strawberry smoothie x2
Bread pan full of marinated mushrooms and onions, dehydrated a bit. COuldn't stop eating them...I was going to use them in a salad or something.
2 apples
1 banana

I think that's it....busy tiring day and by supper I just wanted to go to bed and I wasn't hungry either.

Looking forward to another raw day....this time I Will be having a nice huge salad with lettuce, tomato, green onion, avo, sunflower seeds and apple.

...and the usual fruit and smoothies and stuff.
I have these nori wrap things but I'm not much of a chef so I might find a recipe for them for tomorrow....

Quick update on my day--

During the day, I drank juice--2 tangerines, a mango, a bunch of grapes. More tart than sweet, probably from not peeling the tangerines...
Some cashews...
Dinner was large salad of romaine, celery, cucumber, broccoli, tomato, and onion.
Some pumpkin seeds...
1 coconut-cacoa truffle...

I just realized I didn't eat any fruit yesterday. This happens occasionally, not on purpose. Fruit is just not in my favorite foods category. I love my salads and veggies and dressings and nuts/seeds. Fruit is just filler food, so I don't ingest too many fats. Anyway....

Still have that honeycrisp apple and that pink grapefruit from yesterday. It's well after 10:00, but I am not in the mood for sweet (my usual morning dilemma). Lunch will be the usual salad bar salad. Dinner will be spinach in some form, either wilted or more likely as a soup. Lately, I'm into celery dipped in a simple guacamole (lime, salt, scallions), so more of that as well.

Good morning everyone!

Just had the bestest ever smoothie that I shared w/2 out of my 3 kids. (J won't go near a smoothie)

1 pineapple
2 oranges
1 banana
2 T green powder
1 T coconut oil
~ 1-2 T agave
2 cups of ice

I blended the 1st 3 ingredients in the vitamix first (cuz they filled it up) and then added the rest, blended, tasted, and then savored every last drop! :D
Quick, delicious, easy, nutritious! :D I did the pineapple for two reasons.

1. I have them and need to use them
2. As a pain reliever cuz I'm still a bit sore

So, that was my yummy goodness after my workout! :D

I also had some Gold Rush this morning as well. :)

tvillemom
11-19-2008, 12:04 PM
Shine, what is "Gold Rush"? Your smoothie sounds delish!!

I just made a GS with: spinach, strawberries, coconut oil, hemp protein powder (don't really like this and am just trying not to waste it) and bananas....alittle honey to try and mask the hemp flavor. It's pretty good, but I could do without the hemp.

Anybody know what else I could do with the hemp powder besides adding it to a smoothie?

shine72
11-19-2008, 12:31 PM
Wendi - I answered you on your page. :)

As for the hemp powder, you could also put in in your puddings! :D Ice cream would work well too. Mix it into granola. If you have a binder in a trail mix (like honey), you could even add it there as well. :) You could make your own date/nut snack bars and add it to that as well.

Hi everyone
haven't blogged in a few days. I am so grateful that I am still in this challenge and it has been really easy this time. It must have been the right time. I received Alissa's book and DVD and was really impressed. I have a lot of raw food books already and was reluctant to invest in another one, since I usually keep my diet quite simple and do not really make any of the more elaborate dishes. With this challenge, however, I decided to treat myself to Alissa's book and DVD and was totally amazed how comprehensive it is. I really loved the DVD, watching her prepare different dishes and addressing many of the issues we all have had to deal with. It is a great help and inspiration.

Today I had
2 bananas
1 bosc pear
flax seed cracker with avo
1 piece of pumpkin pie
2 coconut macaroons

Lots of love and light

Shine, now I wanna peek at Wendi's page to see what "gold rush" is too. :)

Raw Journey, the DVDs are great - first watched them a few yrs back. I really enjoyed learning more about what I had been experiencing early on as I wasn't connected to anyone else who was into raw. Much of the extra info was eye opening...

Today was pretty easy. Just a superfood smoothie, oranges, vegetable fruit salad, and raw brownies with almond milk.

Posting on the challenge thread has slowed...well, it's toward the end of the month. But also, we have the holiday season upon us. I don't know if any of you are feeling anxious about facing the food part of the festivities. I have some trepidation on a number of levels.

Thanksgiving means travel to my in-laws, where they notice what you eat and urge you to go back for more. Whether it was true or not, my husband's great-aunts used to tell me joyously, "You've gained weight!" And when I expressed some dismay, or my MIL would try to tell them that might hurt my feelings, they'd always exclaim, "It looks good on you!" Then my MIL would roll her eyes and say, "They grew up during the depression. That must be it...."

Haven't eaten yet today, but enjoyed my food yesterday so much, I'll probably repeat that--salad for lunch, fruit later, maybe some guacamole and celery for supper.

11-20-2008, 12:02 PM
I'm still here! :D

Take a couple of dishes with you (or make them when you get there if it's far). Just make sure you get enough before anyone else tries it (or make a lot), because even those that turn there noses up at raw, seem to be the ones that clean off the serving dishes and into their bellies! ;)

So far today I've had my Gold Rush and what I'm calling my "Workout Recovery" Smoothie (it contains a whole pineapple!). I make a whole Vitamix full, and share it with the 2 out of 3 kiddos that will drink smoothies in this house.;)

Hope everyone else is having a GREAT day! :D And guess what? We're 2/3 of the way there!

Yesterday didn't go exactly as planned (which is not news in my world!). I ended up making Alissa's broccoli soup, which I have made before, but something went horribly wrong. Maybe I grabbed the teaspoon instead of the half teaspoon when I measured the salt. But it was sadly inedible. So instead, I made a simple romaine salad with lemon juice and olive oil. Then I had various and sundry nuts/sunflower seeds and some tea.

Today, I have several kinds of fruit with me and will have my usual salad for lunch. Supper needs to be spinach in some form before it goes south.
