From what I have read in Alissa's book so far, it isn't totally necesary but she does suggest trying it if you have been following the raw lifestyle and weight isn't coming off. i haven't completed the book but it is the best raw book I have read so far. I wish I had read it first. I do follow a little bit of the food combining but I am not that strict on it. It seems to help me though.

I sort of do, just not religiously. I find that eating when I'm hungry -- rather than for emotional reasons -- makes most food combining thoughts unnecessary. Most of the "rules" are already followed by my taste buds!

if it's something you're really curious about, try it out & see how it goes. :)

i don't do it, but then again, i am mostly a mono-eater (that's just how my tastebuds work now like what Eva mentioned). for me, i think it's really important to observe my body. i usually pay close attention to what i eat for any given day & observe how my body feels... energy-wise & mentally. if i'm not feeling well, i will tweak with the meal next time or the next time i eat the same meal again, i would make especially sure to observe how i'm feeling. :D

When you start on a raw journey, you need to get comfortable first with the food and feel happy with it! If you get too complicated, strick etc.... you may end up eating stuf way more harmful then not combining your food properly.

Right now, don't worry about it.

If you notice that you have a lot of gas, then you can try to do some little adjustment. Keep in mind that you need to get comfortable first. You need to find for yourself that you can really do this as a permanent life style. Only make the change that you can do or ready for it.

Just enjoy your food, raw food rock, lol...

As you go along, you can do a little adjustment. Such waiting to digest properly before eating something else, focusing on chewing well etc....

I do watch out a little for me for i try to eat in a way that my body won't give me gas, but i have been doing this for near two years now. At first, i just didn't worry about it. This tanksgiving coming, you bet that i will eat raw gourmet, lol....

Enjoy your food!

It is very important for digestion. When foods are in the stomach very different digestive juices are secreted. When foods are improperly combined some foods digest others ferment and turn into toxins. One of the main points in eating raw foods is to decrease or eliminate the toxins which are voluntarily introduced to the body. Why defeat the purpose just by eating acid fruits with proteins (considered a poor combo). In my experience it is better to learn your new ways properly and practice them from the beginning rather than have to relearn something all over again. Here is a great link to further educate yourself on the matter.

I kind of agree with Eva. I have some digestive issues I am healing and when I feel really hungry I can eat most combinations of foods, especially at lunch time. If I am not feeling my best or only eating because I think I should, then miscombining bothers my system more.

I seem to always have trouble with really dense desserts that have a lot of nuts and dried fruits other than dates. For me it is more that things can be to rich or dense for my digestion.

I like the advice to try things out for yourself and see how your body feels!

Will someone please point me to where I can learn how to combine vegan foods? Right now I just throw everything in the blender, and other than eating melons separately, I'm not sure what goes with what.

I'm also snacking throughout the entire day, so it's hard for me to have clear "meals"...I'm more of a grazer.

Alissa has a great section on it in her book.

when i was experiencing some bloating problems - i did food combining and felt better...

then i forgot about the combining alltogether and felt worse again. anyway, in the end i am feeling much much better after doing a cleanse (master cleanse) and don't seem to experience the same discomfort.f

so my point is- if you have some digestive issues, it doesn't hurt to try it and see how you feel :)
