I use a food processor and a blender pretty much in food prep. If you do a lot of recipes, just a food processor may be perfect for your kitchen. If you do lots of smoothies and recipes that require smoother results, you may want to consider a high speed blender like Vitamix.
Neither one is really necessary for following a raw food diet, just makes things easier.
Good luck in your journey to better health.

I use my magic bullet like 20 times a day, it's amazing for everything! It was $50 at Meijer, so if you're looking for something cheap but with more power than just an average mixer, this is an option.

What do you mean by "mixer"? Do you mean a food processor or a blender?
Suggestion ~ purchase cheap, you'll be buying another soon enough. You can buy anything you want yet, why purchase something that wont do the job, may break down and become frustrated with? Once you get the best, you'll never settle for less than.

From another posts I know that you don't have much money. I just have a regular (although not the cheapest) blender (I guess that's what you mean by "mixer"). It works just fine on smoothies and soups. You can probably find one at a second-hand store or e-bay (do they have that in Sweden?). Mine is a Kitchen Aid, an American brand, and I like it a lot, because it is wide from top to bottom and I can get stuff out easily.:)

I get a lot of use out of my $50 Magic Bullet from Macy's. Target has them, too. I also have a $60 12 speed Osterizer blender with a food processor attachement that does the job. (Even though I now have a vitamix I'm still using the blender base with the food processor attachment.)
If you can get a secondhand blender to start with, that would be ideal. If you want to spend $50 to $100 to get a blender, choose carefully. How much power does it have? Look at the peg or wheel that the blender container sits on. You want that to be metal, not plastic. About 5 years ago, when I bought my Osterizer the salesman at Macy's told me the plastic ones (the more expensive Kitchenaids) were always the models being returned broken.

I make milkshakes and smoothies for my daughter in mine. Only thing is, you are limited to the size of the container. If you want a huge one you have to do it in two batches. You can also use an immersion blender.
I don't think you want a mixer, but instead a food processor and/or blender.

I make green smoothies at least twice a day, and often other kinds of smoothies, and soups, and almond butter, and sauces, and a million other things! I even use it to blend veggies and then squeeze them through a nut-milk bag to make my own juice without a juicer =)
I am just "cooking" for me though, so it is true as posted below that you can only make small batches of things.
