My Dad has a lot of birds (from parakeets to Macaws) and each of them like different things. He has a canary that loves spinach, romaine lettuce- basically lots of greens and not so much of his canary seed. His parakeets like some romaine but lean more towards the pet store type feed seed. His macaws like fruit (melon, apples, pears, grapes,...they love love love sweet juicy orange and will juice them in their beaks saying UMM UMMM).

I seed mix my Dad buys them is not a roasted type of seed so his birds are raw.:D

Fresh food is very good for birds! They need it. In the wild, their mothers refuse to cook! Usually parakeets who never ate fresh food won't even give it a chance, so it's really lucky if yours is eating fresh food at all.

Birds can be poisoned by CHOCOLATE and AVOCADOS. Treat those as poisons as far as your birds are concerned.

Otherwise, birds love sharing food and it's fun for me that most anything I cook can be shared with my pets. I try to go easy on the sugars and oils for them.

Another great thing for pet birds is soaked seeds. Harrison's pellets and soaked (barely sprouted) seeds make up the non-fresh part of my birds' diet. I'll make up a mix containing wheat berries, fenugreek, black or brown rice, fennel, sunflower seeds just as an example ... they really like it and it's easy for them to digest.

Yep....my little canary is 100% raw. He eats seeds, fresh fruits and veggies.....oh, when I leave for awhile I do put about 1/4th of a piece of dry bread in his dish. Other than that he's raw.
