Hi there.

I have a problem which I hope someone can really help me with. I'd like to know how much raw coconut milk I can feed my 8 month old DS2 per day or is there any other milk substitute I can give my baby?

You see, I am exclusively breastfeeding my DS2 for now, but once or twice a month, I have to be away literally for an entire day or sometimes 3 days straight. I'd like to know if during that period can my baby's caregiver supplement my DS2 with coconut milk?

I have previously tried to pump out breastmilk, but the output is so little, it's really discouraging (like maybe half an ounce at a time for both the breasts). Therefore, I have just stored away the darn pumps (I've tried 5 different and expensive pumps in vain). I know however, the baby can suck quite a lot from my breast, like 6 ounces at one go. So despite pumping breastmilk, it's never enough for those days I have to work.

The caregiver have tried formula, both soy and cow's milk, but we found that the baby is highly allergic to formulas. (please don't flame me, we needed to explore all options)

I'm not sure if I'm ready to make nut milks for the baby as he is highly allergic to food. He was even allergic to avocados at one point, but it's ok now. I'm not sure what I can do. Help!

Jasmin

ps I have been lurking in this forum for a few years now, and highly enjoy reading the posts, but I never thought I'd need help.

pps Baby DS2 is taking about an ounce of raw coconut cream per day, mixed with his meals ie bananas, apples, papayas

I can sympathize. I wasn't able to produce enough milk. When I pumped I could only get about an ounce, if that. Alas there wasn't much more when she suckled either. We tried formulas but everything made her sick. I wouldn't advise nut milks because of the allergy factor, but most of the people on the food allergy forum I frequent would also consider coconut a nut. I don't know what to tell you. Maybe ask your Dr.? Although I found they were no help really. They just suggested allergenic formula and that still made her sick.

The pediatrician suggested I try a soy formula, and boy, the reactions came in faster than when he took dairy formula. Instant rashes all over the face, neck and the butt.

Lucky for me, he can eat avocados and coconut milk for the fat, and surprise, spirulina for the protein when I'm not around, but I think that's not enough. Am I crazy to think I need some sort of "milk" for him when I'm working? I need to find a solution quick cause I need to be away for 3 solid days in Dec.

Anyways, I'm at my wits end. I'm not really sure what to do.
