Hi All,

I've been eating cooked food but continue to eat a lot of raw. On Monday I started back to eating mostly raw foods. I eat mostly fruit but on Wed. did have 2 samples of bread from Whole Foods about the size of a quarter and a fork size of cauliflower potato salad.

I am working out like crazy as I'm training for a marathon and have signed up for the AIDS LifeCycle and will ride my bike 565 miles next year. I will eat cooked on Saturdays when I do my marathon training as the water stops have pretzels and Clif bars, etc. I am vegan and stay that way no matter what I'm eating.

My weight loss is usually kind of slow when raw as I usually eat a lot of avocados and some nuts. But so far this week, I've lost 7 pounds since Monday and I'm a tad concerned that is too much, too fast. I been basically eating bananas, oranges, and apples as that is what I'm craving but I did add in an avocado with tomato and onion yesterday and Wed. to see if I could slow down the weight loss and it hasn't happened.

I feel great which is wonderful but I'm nervous as I'm doing 14 miles tomorrow and want to be strong enough to complete it.

I have about 80 pounds to lose and would not be upset if it fell off quickly but I also want to stay healthy. Any advice or suggestions?

Maybe you are burning more calories than you are taking in..........In Joy.

I always lose weight in large amounts when I first get back to raw. 7 pounds in a week for the first couple weeks is normal for me. Which is weird for me since every other diet I ever tried growing up wouldn't work. I just look at it like my body is thriving on raw...and that is why it works so quickly. Don't look for that every week, but it's not abnormal for me either. ;) Good for you training so hard! Your body will love you for it.

I have dropped 7 - 10 pounds in a week on raw before too.I have 80 pounds to lose too. Some of it is probably water weight. This week I have dropped 4 and it is my first week back in a while. I really wasn't expecting to lose anything but I think if you have 80 pounds to lose you might see some of it drop off quickly to begin with. Trust yourself. As long as you are eating raw and eating enough to feel satisfied then you are going in the right direction. Our bodies have a way of gaining when we don't want to and losing faster then we think they should be able to. I lost 5 pounds overnight last week when I drank a gallon of water the day before so it is amazing what the body will do. Just take good care of yourself and your body will come back into balance. Best wishes to you.....

Welcome. I'm very impressed with your athletic prowess and ambitions. I understand that you want to stay raw and I don't think the nibbles of food you tasted will have any effect, especially with the high metabolism of an athlete. The raw foods probably kicked up your metabolism and are creating a more alkaline environment resulting in quick weight loss. You also have a large amount of weight to lose and in such case I think the weight can come off faster. The weight loss should stabilize eventually.

As a distance biker, I woudn't recommend staying on mostly fruits for a long period of time. Why don't you do some research into the dietary advice of other marathoners and athletes. I think there's someone named Tim Van Orden, as well as others. You need a lot of fuel for your demanding workouts and you also don't want to break the body down.
