the folks at my favorite sprout seed company told me that when you water your sprouts with tap water (though pure water is by far preferred) you don't need to worry because the sprouts themselves filter out all of the evils in the tap water.

can this be true???

It makes me think that even though organic fruits and vegetables are grown organically they may be watered or cleaned in tap water.

It just bothers me to spout organic seeds in my kitchen and soak and water them with tap water - but that is all I can afford right now. I can't get a tap filter right now either.

any thoughts on this??

Do the best you can. Of course, filtered water is better than tap water.
I soak my organic sprouting seeds in filtered water mixed with a little bit of ocean water, for aded minerals.
But I rinse them with tap water, because I can't put a filter on my dorm bathroom's sink. I think the sprouts take up more of the soak water than the tap water, but I'm sure they take up some tap water, too.
And yeah, organics can be watered with tap water :( . That's why growing your own is awesome because you know just what you're getting.

Rawstrength, I agree, 'just do the best you can'. I'm doing it. You're probably right about the soak water. It stands to reason that it would soak up more at that point.
That's great that you have ocean water to add. Is that something you purchase like mineral water? Or do you take your sprouts to the beach?:p

I started by purchasing sea minerals at www.growgreens.com . When I went away to my college, which is near the ocean, I started using sea water from the beach :) .
