Hi everyone...I'm very new at this and I'm pleased to have found this forum! I have started having 2 raw meals a day, (breakfast and lunch), and am having horrible gas and bowel movements. I'm drinking a green smoothie with frozen fruit and green powder in the morning, and vegi's with hummus or a salad at lunch. The gas is really embarrassing and very foul smelling. Is this a detox symptom? I'm not 100% raw so I didn't think that I would be detoxing this soon. Thanks for your help!

What is the green powder that your using? Have you tried to use fresh spinach greens instead of the powder? (It's amazing how spinach in a green/fruit drink doesn't taste like spinach) Also, is your hummus raw and if so, is made with sprouted garbonzo beans or almonds? This might be apart of the problem also. Not everyone digests the sprouted garbonzo bean type of hummus. Have you read Alissa's book.....you might find some answers there also. Good luck and hopefully you'll get some good answers here to help you out.

Well.. what happens when you put holy water on the devil? He freaks out. :D

Keep on eating raw and your body will adjust.

aw. poor thing. i agree w/ the poster before me. your body will adjust to these fresh foods in time.

if you go out & would not like to exhibit the err... hm... interesting side effects of freshness :p, try eating a more simple meal like just one fruit in a smoothie or by itself or a simple salad. don't eat anything complex with different types of ingredients in it.

it could also not be from the complex food combinations, and what you're eating is simply expelling the air pockets that you already have. it's a very good thing, but yes, i know it can be embarrassing.

goodluck!

I appreciate everyone's advice. I'm looking into buying a vita-mix blender so that I can make green smoothies...maybe that will help the situation. I'm sticking with it even though right now there are bad detox symptoms...I just hope my family can take it! ;)

You'll love the vita-mix. For me it was a must. I have digestive issues so I am all too aware of the gas problem. I agree with oai, the simple raw foods and recipes help a lot in this area!

All these herbs/foods help with gas. They are all tremendously effective alone, and work synergistically together:
lemon
peppermint
spearmint
wintermint
ginger
parsley
cumin
cilantro

You will get through this. In time, your body will adjust.
