How many of you eat INSANE amounts of food during/before/right after that time of the month?
COME on.................lets see the daily intake! LOL
IM A MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant stop shoveling!
And I do believe, IM ACTUALLY HUNGRY!

That time of month? Honey? That's been long gone for me, but I eat insane amounts of food - ALL DAY LONG!!!!!!!!! That's all I do...well...not ALL I do, but it's what I do a LOT of!!! :p

LOL..........................I still have a saddie mentality ............I think............so eating all day makes me crazy.

Not during/before menstruation, but ovulation and pre-ovulation! I do find myself craving mad amounts of spinach when menstruating, though. Must be the iron & other nutrients lost.
Ah, cool off-topic random experience here... Whenever I'd give blood, my iron test was always a pass, but barely. It would slowly bob down to the bottom. If I drink a green smoothie that day, it drops like a rock :P Ha!

I did when I was eating mostly a SAD diet! Now that I am high raw I haven't had a menstruation in 7 weeks..wahoooooo!!! Bonus for me! Maybe I will eat a ton when it does decide to come around for a visit again :eek:

I don't eat a lot right before my period, but I do get really bizarre cravings, usually for healthy raw vegan foods. Like the cycle before last cycle I had cravings for avocados and only wanted avocados, nothing else. This cycle before my period I only wanted mesquite powder.

I am due (late) for my period this month but so stressed out it likely will be a rough one, anyway, so I'm good with it being postponed.... :D
And I haven't been able to make myself eat much more than a couple larabars or a few bites of salad or sips of smoothie for... the whole week.
I'm wierd.

I had a strange craving for an avocado in the middle of the night, and I want one badly now, too. My body has never been one to be on a schedule, but it should be happening anytime soon. Thank goodness my last avocado is mashed up in my version of a guacamole for my salad tonight, or I would want another one at 3 a.m. ;)

Reading all your posts, I'm rather confused. I get hungry every 3-5 hours or so, but I don't eat very much, except when previously mentioned, I'll have a day or two where all I want is food. How often are you guys talking, and is it more of a foraging cycle, or eating huge raw meals as oftem as possible?

Oh man I want to eat nuts nuts nuts alll day prior to menstruating. No joke. Macadamias and coconut are the usual favorites. It's something to do with the saturated fat, I kid you not. I LOVE fatty foods when I'm pre-menstrual. I end up feeling sick after I eat them, but I do get intense cravings for creamy fatty foods.

Yeah.. Not only do I want TONS of carbs, I want them to be COOKED! I caved tonight and had pasta.. HUGE mistake! I knew it was a mistake at the time, but like a drug addict: I submitted. Cannot wait to eat raw and LIGHT tomorrow..

Crazy healer lady - Yesterday I had:
2 40oz green smoothies
4 bananas
2 apples
guacamole with almost 7 huge carrots :D
2 pears
a handful of almonds
an orange
spinach/mango/tomato salad
grapefruit
...............THE LIST KEEPS GOING, I I just cant remember.

OK so today I still feel FULL from last night! grrr! And my scale is reflecting the ton of food still in me too.
About to have a fruit smoothie with psyillum husk mixed in. (getting TOM this weekend) :(

Okay, here's the deal Camille, erm, I mean srsarri!
I start out w/a quart of water. Yep, after me and my dogs pee (not in the same spot mind you), and brush my teeth, I do a quart of water - followed by 4-5 swigs (probably tablespoons) of chia seeds.
Then I drink my green smoothie. Then I'll either eat my gRAWnola, or whatever I feel like. I've been known to eat nori wraps for b-fast. I'll also drink a kombucha tea about now. Then about a half an hour to an hour later I'll do fruit, or nuts, or seeds. Then lunch comes - either nori wraps, salad, whatever I've prepared. Then a couple hours later either more fruit or nuts or seeds. Then sometimes I'll have another smoothie before my second job, or quick down some crawckers and cheeze or burger, or whatever I have available. While at work I'll do either seeds, or sea veggies - just snap off some kombu and chew it.
So yeah, I 'graze' all day.
Oh and in between all of this, I'm consuming about 60-80 ounces of water.

Have any of you who binge right before your period considered eating more fat throughout your cycle? Fat makes up a significant portion of the hormones that bring on menstruation. When you don't eat enough, then suddenly your body will demand a ton of fat right before your period.

Rawstrength, funny you should mention fats. I had the worst cravings ever this month and I didn't even connect with PMS because I was a week early:confused:. I had been out of avocados for a few days, and that is my main source of fat and carbs which is what I was craving.

me, me, me (raising hand). I swear there's times I want to start knawing the furniture.
I crave salt. In my really SAD days, it always meant a trip to 7-Eleven for a bag of greasy, salty Ruffles potato chips. Or Doritos. I'd be tearing into them before I left the store.
Now I just find myself eating more (and more and more) during that time, although I still occasionally cave for something not so healthy.
The good thing is, my eating habits are the only sign I've got of what's coming. Much better than than my old visits from the seven dwarfs (icky, achy, crampy, munchy, weepy, bloated and bitchy)

The cravings aren't physical, they are from emotions, and serotonin ebbs making us irritable before menses, but the raw balances that out...Overeating raw is an issue.
Check out Karen Knowler's interview here, really good. It will be up until 9 pm tonight. She really addresses the "whole person" issue with raw-its NOT about the food:

In my vegetarian days it was chocolate and pastries. I would it them in massive amounts before and during the cycle. When I went raw the chocolate food craving switched to cacao. I would make raw chocolate pies and cacao smoothies.
Now? Nothing! No food cravings. No cramps. No bloating. No headaches. No PMS. No not even knowing it's coming anymore. No nothing except well -- the release. :D
Raw = freedom.

LOL - Raw Joy that gave me a great laugh to start the day! Lots of those have left for me, too! All but the weepy, bitchy, crampy. Although this will only be my 2nd period on this second (and permanent) round of raw, so ... Maybe I'll be like you ^__^

Hi there,
I used to experience that when I was cooked, but when I went raw six years ago that strong need to eat more before and during my period went away.
If you are craving cooked carbs, that means that you need to eat a lot more fruit! :-)
