View Full Version : Has anyone completely weaned themselves off of cooked with green smoothies?

I guess my question is (and yes I have read green for life and 12 steps to raw) can anyone honestly say that green smoothies are the only reason why they are raw today?
My boss who is not raw asked this question - I know Lucy is the GS queen!. I told her about lucy. I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there with this type of experience.
I think my boss is trying to tell me that she wants to try and go raw. she has been asking more and more questions, she even ALMOST tried my green smoothie.
Did anyone begin their RAW journey saying "I will stay as high raw as possible, and drink as many green smoothies as I can as often as possible to eventually get to 100%" (I HATE USING PERCENTAGES)

Cold turkey worked better for me. Keeping some cooked foods going in also kept my cravings wide open

Same here - cold turkey worked best. That's why Alissa says in her book to go to your cupboards and get rid of any of the SAD/CRAP foods you have in there and she'd wait. Which I did. I actually packed up what I had for a Vegan who works with me. Then I continued to read her book. And YES the green smoothies along WITH eating 100% raw worked for me and many others. There are many that will testify that green smoothies (along w/the raw foods) DID make cravings go away.
If your boss wants to e-mail, tell her she's more than welcome!

Thank You for the offer Lucy! I will tell her!
I went cold turkey too. I remember my first week, I CONSTANTLY had a piece of fruit im my hand. If I didnt, I would fail. I ATE ATE ATE. my boss remembers! When I began I did not tell my boss because I was still affraid of peoples reactions, she thought I was pregnant! LOL I also did not eat any nuts or seeds, keeping myself satiated was SOOOOOOOO hard!

I hear 'ya! I was too busy reading and reading and actually waiting for a migraine to kick in, which it never did. But I also drank a good bit of water. Of course after reading Alissa's book I wanted to make EVERY recipe, but had nothing sprouting or any nuts or anything, so I just grabbed the "real" fast food (fruits) and then slowly built up my inventory, not only of appliances, but books and such. I just kept busy.
She can do it. You KNOW she can.
But to answer your initial question is it green smoothies alone that makes one raw? I don't think so. They are an excellent compliment. Do you have Alissa's book? Could you lend it to her? Lots of questions answered in there. I swear it is THE best one out there. I know. I have close to 40 of 'em!

And as for the funky recipe books: OMG you guys! haha Too funny!

I really didn't like green smoothies at first. I grew into them slowly. Now (6 months later) I have a vitamix and rarely go a day without a green smoothie. My tastes have changed drastically! :D

I became raw largely because of green smoothies! In fact I discovered raw when I was looking for a recipe to make my own mueslix, because I wanted to make it not all full of sugar like the store-bought stuff and with whole grains, and several "raw meuslix" recipes came up, and I was like "what is this all about anyway?", and then I actually ended up on the green-smoothie challenge part of the forum here, and went to that webpage and decided to do it, and I felt so good after my 1st week of still eating cooked food but trying for more raw and having 2-4 green smoothies a day, that I decided to try all (or at least mostly) raw. Still whenever I get a craving for some comfort food (for me Kraft mac and cheese), I make a green smoothie and its so delicious and makes my body so happy I remember all my reasons for doing this and stick with it!

I'm so jealous...wish my hubby would drink em. Just the thought of them makes him physically start gagging. Ehh, these Cancers with texture issues. Lol.

Heh, well, it depends on how bad it is, I try to always start with a green smoothie, my current favorite is banana, kiwi, cinnamon, and spinach, but if later I'm STILL really tempted to make a box of Kraft, I make a dessert smoothie with almond milk, frozen banana, vanilla, and if you like chocolate (I don't much) add some cacao nibs, and I make it reeeeally thick, just enough milk to get the banana blended, and it's so darn delicious I can't imagine choosing mac and cheese over it =)

I personally would like another copy of Alissa's book and would lend out the new one because mine is underlined and comments everywhere and in the recipe section I've got all my notes on how we liked/didn't like that particular recipe and any changes/alterations I might have made. Yeah, even if they get really funky with spots and spills.....you just can't replace your book with a fresh new one. As far as green smoothie.....I found that the more green I ate (at first) the less I craved sugar sweets and green smoothies were a great way to get more greens down the hatch.
