Yep, I am allergic to nuts. Tree nuts and peanuts. (so THAT'S why my mouth itches when I eat them!) My allergist told me to avoid them at all costs and I now carry an epi pen. But what about all those awesome raw recipies!!!!! WAAAAHHHH !:(

Anybody else dealing with this? Do you just use sunflower seeds in place of nuts? Help!

I use sunflower and pumpkin seeds in place of nuts in most recipes, but for saving on cost, not for allergy issues. It works fine.
But I wonder, can you get seeds that have not been processed on equipment used for nuts? How sensitive are you to nuts?

Often an elimination diet can help you get over allergies. You stay away from the items you're allergic to for 90 days & then add back one at a time to see if you still have a reaction.

Yes you can use sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds and hemp seeds insted of the nuts. A "nut cheess" made by sesame seeds (soaked), garlic, lemon juice, and spices Is fantastic. You can make almost all the things you use to with nuts but with seeds insted, easely. But with allergies I would advise you to rotate the seeds you use, not just sticking with sunflower seeds for example, but to change everyday the seeds you use. Or every other day..... you get the idear :D I cant have nuts either so im sticking with seeds and doing great :)
If you need more protein you can ad more sprouts to your diet and if it is fats you can ad more avocados and oils, and greens ofcourse. But this and seeds in you diet you will get more than enough of what your body need.

Hey there,

You can do it!

I am allergic to ALOT of thing including most nuts and seeds.

But I know most rawbies sub seeds (sesame, sunflower, pumpkin, hemp) for most recipes with success.

You can even use coconut in some recipes.

I am not sure about using seeds processed on equip. used for nuts...I will have to ask my Doc! Didn't even think of that.

GG, elimination diet then reimtroduction does work for sensitivities, but not for true allergies, that could become a very dangerous situation! Nut allergies also are typically lifetime allergies, whereas many kids will outgrow other allergies. And....I am not a kid, lol :D

I am also allergic to shellfish, which is a lifetime allergy...but I don't need to worry about that as I never ate it as a rawbie or veg.

Good to know I can just swap out the nuts for seeds! Off to make some seed cheese...
