My husband recently went to Brasil, so I asked him to bring me home some raw brasil nuts....he did, and.....they are sooo good. I think what I like more than the taste is the texture. Why haven't I gotten these before now....especially since I eat raw!!!

A Brazil nut a day will give you all the Selenium that you need. Selenium prevents cancer! http://www.naturalnews.com/016446.html

I don't eat Brazils because the ones I have found are heated above 150 degrees to dry them. Please let me know if you have found any that are not heated that high.

if you dont mind the size you can get nice ones from those people.

One has to pick their battles with eating raw. If the little bit of Brazil nuts I DO eat are heated, then so be it. Does that make me 99% raw? Then so be that. I don't know...

TaupeRawMan, you may want to check with www.nutsonline.com and ask them. Or how about ordering them in the shell and then de-shelling them?

Hi VFL -
they are heated while in the shell, I believe.

brazil nuts are great! i love them too, but they're the only nuts that i actually limit cause they're like, VERY high in selenium, and an overdose is not good (cause remember you get selenium from other foods too).
But i would only assume it would be a problem if you say ate handfuls of brazils everyday for a long period of time - otherwise it shouldn't be a problem. but just beware :):)

I get nuts from several different sources. Pecans and black walnuts from:
www.sunnylandfarms.com
They have the smaller brazil nuts and are excellent. I also like that fact that they keep their nuts in cold storage for freshness. I gave up buying from the bin at the local HFS long time ago--tired of getting rancid nuts. Only exception is if I ask them to order or if they are filling the bin right then with fresh stock.

lucky you !
i have a question though... how do those nuts that he brought you from brazil compare with the raw brazil nuts you buy here at home?
whats the difference...if any? or have you even had the brazils from the stores here?
i always wonder about stuff like that.
thanks

Just back home from seeing our precious grandbaby. My 3 1/2 year old grandbaby absolutely loves brazil nuts. Before we headed home to CO hubby gave her money so she can buy her own brazil nuts. She was taken to WF once we boarded our plane. Now she has her own stash that she paid for of these nuts. She has the look of great health. The photographer for Walmart loved her pictures and asked to keep her as a model.
I wish they would get her off dairy not that she does lots, but still she doesn't need it.
