I was wondering if any1 is eating garlic for better health. I read that it is definitely a superfood. I just chopped a clove in 4 pieces and swallowed them. :eek:I guess we will see. Any success stories using garlic?

Garlic is known as a natural antibiotic. Yes....I do eat alot of garlic, considering it's in almost every dressing I make, marinara sauce, salsa, guac. etc. As far as herbs go (using them for herbal medicine) if I could only pick two, they would be garlic and cayenne.....they are both incredible.

We seep garlic cloves in water and drink the water as a tonic (some people mix it in their fruit juice). Lots of people with high blood pressure or heart/blood problems do that here in the Bahamas. Also, people who have head colds or chest coughs do this also. It's been done for ages with the "old folks" and some of them live well into their late 90's and up.
Recently, I used a small garlic clove with small nick cuts in it for an on-setting vaginal itch/yeast infection.
To Seep Garlic Tonic
*****************
2 or 3 bulbs garlic, cloves separated, peeled
1 gal Purified water (whatever water you now drink, keep more on hand in case this isn't enough)
Use a recycled 1gal bottle to store or a storage container of your choice.
Directions: Lightly mash or cut in half all of the cloves of garlic. Add to water, let mixture "seep" or sit for 1-2 days. The longer it sits the more potent it becomes. For a quicker release, put the water out in the sun to warm through (not too hot), then add cloves and let seep. (If you don't have issues using a kettle, then heat the water in that.)
There is another train of thought out there that garlic is superb -- as medicine. NOT for everyday use. The thought is that it kills both good and bad bacteria, which is unhealthy for the intestinal flora. And the fact that the body emits it in such strange ways (underarm odor, bad breath, even just the skin in general) says that the body is trying to rid itself of the garlic through non-traditional methods (like bowel movements).
I'm not firmly set on this idea, but I did have a go at eliminating garlic and onions from a 100% raw diet, and I found that I felt clearer (my sinuses and my mind) very quickly.
Since that time, I have only moderate amounts of garlic as I don't have real evidence that the benefits of large amounts of garlic on a regular basis outweigh the possible negatives. I am not a PERFECT raw foodist, but I do not believe in supplementing unless the option of real food has been exhausted... so for me, my own body creating its B12 is important. This means I really can't afford to go killing all bacteria just "willy nilly."
I am not a doctor (ha! Not that that would mean I would be an expert on nutrition ;)), and I do not consider myself a Garlic Expert! haha, just sharing the other side of the stinky stuff!
P.S. I do so love the taste of garlic, but my husband does not! :p

Thanks Eva! I had omitted both as well. I dislike the taste of both raw. I suffer from BV and that's y I'm so interested I guess. I thought if I consumed it everyday it would furtherly prevent a reoccurance. Your post makes a lot of sense. Im glad b/c I dont want to eat it anymore. I'll just use the garlic tampon method posted on one of the other forums. Thanks a mil!

I will eat garlic when I have sore throat, or a cold. I also will use garlic oil for ear aches. It is fabulous

I"d recommend juicing garlic with citrus; it's so good!
Teraw! I think that eating all raw food is one of the best things that any person could possibly do to prevent recurrence of anything!
There are some great tips here for remedies, though. :)

I don't eat much garlic at all. In fact some of Alissa's recipes that I tried had far too much garlic in them for me. Husband and daughter love garlic. Husband is Italian. If I eat too much of it, I get bad stomach pains. I can only eat small amounts occasionally. I do eat a ton of onions though. I put them in pretty much everything!

I've read studies that show that the medical benefits are obtained only from AGED garlic, and that raw garlic is not terribly healthy, just as Eva described.

I use garlic medicinally now and no longer consume it daily. The same with onions. In addition to the information about how the body rids itself of garlic, there has also been some research that it may interfere with communication between the left & right hemispheres of the brain. I don't think this is something to worry about, but perhaps to consider. I personally choose only to use both garlic & onions medicinally now after being pro garlic for many years. I'm finding that being raw I'm very sensitive to any food that may impact me and I definately notice differences when I eat garlic or onions now. I'm not as clear. I still think garlic is a wonderful food and natural cure for many ailments just the same though.

I do believe that aged garlic is better medicinally than fresh garlic, if only because it doesn't make you smell!
To make your own aged garlic, chop up a bunch of garlic and then soak it in lemon juice for a few days. Drain the lemon juice before using.
I used to love garlic, but now it repulses me. We need different foods at different stages of our healing journey, so make sure to listen to your body!

Since going raw, I rarely eat garlic. Almost never. No desire for it.
Fresh, organic, raw fruits and veggies seem to work fine for me.

There are many that believe that garlic is bad.
I have not had any for about a year and have almost given up onion.
As a matter of fact I have just given up onion as of now and when I give something up, I give it up.

I think that it is more considered that it shocks your system and that is not good.

My grandmother always told me that garlic makes people horny.
Somehow I don't believe that . . . anyway, the smell of garlic would scare many potential lovers away!

Partly it's the sulphur in garlic that explains that impact, which is why it's possibly helpful for fertility. Some yogis say it's overstimulating to the second chakra.
