You can defnitely do that. Most people start out with a 40/60 green/fruit ratio, and gradually work up to 60/40 greens/fruit.

I use 1 apple, 1 banana, 2 cups liquid, and about 3 cups loosely packed greens. That makes about three or four glasses ^_^ You can double the recipe, or add a peach, more water/nut milk, and more greens. Experiment! Have fun! I'd recommend making smaller batches at first, single-serving. 1/2 banana, 1/2 apple, etc.

Kale is a very strong-tasting green so you may want to start out with a little to see how you like it. Or just use a higher amount of fruit.

I freeze my bananas as they ripen and use in smoothies. Use 1 to 1 1/2 per batch along with about 1/4 c frozen blueberries, couple chunks of pineapple, 1/4 c black cherries, a chunk of mango, a package of frozen Amazon Mania raw Acai, a T of Vitamineral green, a little MSM, and a cup or so of water. Blend to incorporate. Then I add about 4 cups of baby spinach, a large collard leaf with stem and a small handful of Italian parsley. Sometimes I throw in some papaya if I have it frozen or vary the greens to something else, but that is pretty much my standard.

I would do a search here for various smoothie recipes. Greens and bananas doesn't sound very good taste-wise to me. Also, if you go to YouTube, you can see how and what others are doing.

I don't do any set proportions. I usually start with 1 to 2 cups purified water, a peach, plum or nectarine, fresh or frozen banana, an orange or frozen raspberries or other frozen fruit, 2 handfuls of spinach (which does taste good with banana IMO), handful of parsley or cilantro, kale or swiss chard (I've always used organic kale and it's very mild IMO) and some ice cubes if it's not cold enough (I like it cold). Sometimes I throw in a lemon or an orange, romaine, or red leaf lettuce. I just throw in whatever I have. If it's not sweet because I've use low sugar fruits, I'll throw in a date.

Today I had almond milk, plus 1 cup water, ice cubes, banana, frozen raspberries, parsley, and two large handfuls of spinach. I don't worry about the proportions, just throw in one or two fruits, enough liquid, and then fill up rest of the vitamix with greens.

i just did this very thing in my vitamix 4 days ago. i will tell you that i used and entire HUGE bunch of kale. but i started out with a few handfulls at a time with cold water...enough to blend it. then i added the rest of the kale and more water a bit at a time as i needed it.
now mind you... this made a VERY deep green slurry and not too thick.
then i started adding frozen juicy fruits like apple, asian pear and regular pear
a little bit at a time. this began to thicken it up somewhat. i think the best way to tell about how much fruit you need it to blend up the geens and then start adding the fruits a bit at a time and stop to taste it along the way to see how it is for you.

i dont rememeber how much fruit i added but i didnt get the bannans in till the end and then it got SUPER thick. so be careful with the amount of bannas and add them last.
boy that vitamix was nearly packed to the top and its a 64 oz container !

but.... it came out great. it was sweet enough with the fruits and the bannanas that i didnt have to add any extra sweetner.

i had SO much that it took me 4 days to finish it. but you know what? it was as good to the last drop as it was the first!

try blending your greens first and then add the fruit a bit a a time... i think through trial and error you will find the right balance.

and by the way.... what REALLY made it fabulous was a piece of vanilla bean i put in there. wow! the taste of vanilla with pears apples and banannas is just wonderful.

except for the color ...i didnt even know the greens were in there LOL.

and one more thing about green smoothies. i find that green color kind of off putting against white cups. so you know what i did LOL i went to walmart and they had these green cups the identical colour of the smoothie.

so now i use that smoothie cup and the whole bloody thing is the same color exactly ! and it actually looks pretty together all one color.
i know it sounds stupid but.... to me... things have to have eye appeal to enjoy eating them. NOW i'm lovin it !

just my last 2 cents

Watching videos on the vitamix site, they put in the liquid, then fruit, then greens, then ice cubes if any. I figured they did that for a reason so that's how I do it.

Ratio is really going to come down to what you prefer at a particular time (more kale cause you want more green or more banana cause you want more fruit, less water for thickness or more water for thinness, etc).

Here's what I had today, for example:

few leaves of dinosaur/lacinato kale (few = three medium-sized leaves, stems removed)
2 cups water
2 medium ripe bananas
a bit of coconut oil

...yummy :)

the reason i put the water and greens in first is so that i could judge how much fruit to add. i do it by feel i dont use any recipe. for me the purpose of the green smoothie is is to get the greens into me.... the fruit is for the taste.
if i start out adding too much fruit i may not have room for the amount of greens i want to put in. i use frozen fruit so i dont need ice cubes.
so that said..... the soft stuff like the greens goes in first and then the hard stuff , which would be ice cubes or frozen fruit, goes in last.

i find for my purposes it works well. if i was making an all fruit smoothie i would do the almond milk spices first and then the frozen fruit..... same difference.
