Someone earlier wanted to know what mesquite tastes like. I've figured it out (just ate some more mesquite ;) ). It tastes like sweet, smoky, caramel yumminess, but without a sugar rush. I bought mine from www.therawfoodworld.com the phone number is 866-729-3438 (866 - RAW - DIET) .
It makes the best barbecue sauce you have ever tasted. Just wait until you eat mushrooms and kombu (kelp) that have been marinated in mesquite barbecue sauce. It also is delicious with cacao, and was traditionally eaten with cacao.
I find that cacao tastes 600 x better AND gives me no crazy feelings when I eat it with other "superfoods" that it is traditionally eaten with (such as maca, mesquite, cayenne pepper and spirulina).
Real Mesquite Barbecue Sauce
1/2 cup raw mesquite powder
1/2 cup oil of choice (I like hemp, olive oil is good too)
1/4 cup of agave nectar
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (more if you like it hot)
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of cumin
1 teaspoon of sea salt
Mix all ingredients well. Great as a marinade for dehydrated vegetables. Also really good on avocados. You've never had barbecue sauce like this before! This is the real deal!

Hey rawstrength!
What else do you do with mesquite? I bought some and so far have only used it in smoothies. The BBQ sauce I will definitely try, thanks!
Also, for medicinal purpose, I would like to use maca on a daily basis but other than smoothies, which I have had to back off from lately :-( and the super candy I cant think of a way I can include in my daily food intake.
Any suggestions? Anybody?
Thanks in advance!
Denise

Thank you for the recipe, RawStrength.
I'm going to try your recipe as a powder on buckwheat.
When I get a dehydrator I'd like to make BBQ buckwheat chips.
Oh yeah, RawStrength, did you get the light or the dark mesquite? I haven't tried either.
