Hi Everyone--

I am feeling frustrated and knew a this would be the place to go for support.

Before I went raw three weeks ago, I weighed in with the trainer. She had heard about my new lifestyle and wanted to weigh me, three weeks later. I have dropped a whole .5 pounds and lost a whole .5% of body fat. :( So, I'm feeling depressed.

She looks at the foods I plan to eat each week, and I didn't eat everything on the list. She said that my body thinks I am starving, because I am not getting the minimum number of calories. I feel that I eat all the time, so I must not be getting the right foods that have calories in them. She also wants me to addmore calcium and protein to my body and suggested adding yogurt and chicken, which I don't want to do.

I thought I had done so well and now have this bump in the road. :( Any tips would be great!

Thanks!

I am in the same situation as you expect my body quit losing weight 10 weeks ago! Although my bodyfat is going down. I have tried cutting back on the nuts and also tried increasing my calories since I workout alot. I am thinking of trying a 1-3 day juice fast to see if that will help.
Just keep at it and the weight will come off. I have had to make myself believe this and I feel when my body is ready to lose again it will. I just know I am eating healthy and working out and that is the best thing I can do!

I also started drinking green smoothies again. I haven't noticed a change in weight yet though.

Sorry I don't have any tips to offer you but I am sure others will.

Calorie counting is old-fashioned. It really doesn't in my opinion apply to raw foods. If you are eating until you're full, you are successful.
I am tall and thin, always have been, and if I ate the correct amount of calories I would need 2,500. When I was eating cooked vegan I ate much more than this and never gained weight.
Now I am eating honestly about 1,200-1,600 per day. I stopped counting because guess what, my body can absorb the nutrients in these foods and it doesn't care about calories. I lost weight in the beginning (not what I needed to do!) and am slowly now gaining back weight. I weigh what I did weigh before and am not losing it. My body is naturally slender and I feel confident because I know I'm not starving myself and that I'm getting enough nutrients. Hope this helps you!

Tonight is my night of working at Chili's followed by an all night study session. After posting the last message, I ate 30 baby carrots, drank half a chai tea with 2%, not soy, milk, and some canned chicken salad with crackers. I've been to the bathroom twice already and feel like crap. So, this confirms that raw is the way to go, because I don't feel this way when going raw, except for eating edaname, which I read isn't raw, right?

Thanks again for the support! I feel better knowing others are going through it. :)

Ditto! Your trainer doesn't want you to get "too healthy" because then you won't need her...

Way to go with losing that bit of body fat!
That is what counts in recomposing your body, not just weight loss in itself. If one is only on a caloric deficit diet and not exercising with weights, one might lose weight all right, but a good part of it can often be muscle that is lost instead of fat. You want to increase your lean muscle, which it may be very likely that you are doing, even if it was just a pound or so in that three weeks.
Your trainer might be right in telling you to up your intake of food, but you now know enough NOT to go with her recommendations as you've already suffered the ill effects of doing so. But you do need some more food to fuel those workouts. Lots of people don't realize that a solid workout at the gym, even on the lighter end of the scale weights-wise, is like unloading a carload at least of steel parts - hard work! So eat!
Raweater here is always saying about keeping calories up, in order to gain muscle, along with a solid workout program. Check out those posts along the way. There's a big difference in the appearance of two people with similar bone structure height and weight, but if one of those two is in shape, he/she will look a lot more compact than the one who hasn't done anything, all on account of the difference in muscle to fat ratio in the body.
Stay strong and stay raw! Listen to your body, as so many other people here say.

Your body will do the right thing if you give it the right ammunition but you must let it decide what it needs to heal first. It is possible that your body is healing something that you are not even aware of and will get around to sorting out your weight and body fat when it has gotten around to fixing all of the things that it considers more critical.
Your job is to continue to give it the right ammunition in the form of raw food so it can continue its task of healing you and making you a better person.

I would also add that anyone who tells you that you need more protein should be looked on with suspicion. The western world is suffering from protein overload. It would be virtually impossible to get enough calories and not have enough protein.

sport, I agree with you. In my MANY experiences going raw over the last 20 years, I understand now that the body will not release stored subcutaneous fat until the liver is detoxed, which means the colon has to detox, and then the body will get rid of organ toxins, all happening BEFORE the liver will signal to metabolize stored fat. So be patient. Your body has to detox first. In the meantime celebrate how much more energy you have, how your skin glows and your mood is happy. Those are really great benefits of raw! The weight WILL come off, but also, watch the nuts. Detox can be accelerated by avoiding the nuts. :)

Nuts don't slow weightloss unless your liver is clogged. The fat in nuts really has to be processed by the liver. So, I agree that having a healthy liver is essential!

Other than peanuts, I've been good about avoiding nuts. Almond butter is is on my grocery list, but I take it that it should be avoided, since it is a nut?

Neither peanuts nor almond butter is raw. Check out www.rawfromthefarm.com for some truly raw nuts.

Peanuts are sort of on our No No list because they do not tend to be healthy.
Most of them contain Aflatoxin which is a carcinogen.
