Hello everyone, I have been eating raw almonds, unsoaked and about 2-3 hours later my stomach does not feel well. Is this common? Today I feel fine, I didn't eat any almonds, but yesterday and the day before I did not feel well at all.

hi,

from all the reading i have done so far and the advice on this board, it is best to soak them. it helps with the digestion of nuts. Some people don't do well with nuts even when they are soaked though. Try soaking them for a while and see how it is for you..

good luck!

This is only common if you are NOT soaking those almonds.

the human body is only meant to eat a small handful of almonds or nuts for that matter at a time, think of walking in a meadow naked a zillion years ago, and coming upon an almond tree, having to climb it, take down the almonds that come in a peach looking type of green orb that is all sticky and then prying the almond out of there, (or picking them off the groun) and then having to open up that almond with no tools, or minimal tools, like a rock, and then eating it. You wouldn't probably do this too many times, if you could find some nice berries, or greens somewhere.

Okay, that gives you an idea how many we should be eating.

Now, if they drop to the ground, you can find a few, and they are less challenging to open, and easier to break apart, as they have probably absorbed the moisture from the ground etc. So they have been soaked a little, now they are easier to find, crack open and eat, so you can have more.

But basically, if you are eating almonds, hazelnuts, cashews sunflower seeds, you MUST soak them to release the enzyme inhibitors or you will get a stomache ache, and not only will the nuts not digest well, they won't allow anything else to either.

if you like your nuts crispy, just soak (almonds for at least 12 hours, 24 is better) and then dehydrate, you can get them super crispy this way, or even add celtic sea salt, or Nama shoyu or honey and cayenne or whatever for some extra zing.
