My am I full of questions today. Sorry!

To make a long story short, I can't sleep! When I do hit the pillow, it's not for more than three or four hours a night at one time, before waking up wide awake and/or having a night eating spell. It got to so bad that, before having a roommate, I never kept any food in my apartment. I've been to doctors, and there is nothing physically wrong, like sleep apnea. The best solution seems to be Lunesta, and it is $2 a pill, with insurance, and I don't like relying on a drug to get to sleep. My solution now has been to stay awake until I can no longer stand it and then get up in the morning when my alarm goes off. The result is that my body has gotten into a habit of staying up late, and then I am not my normal perky self until after breakfast at work. So, I welcome any suggestions on how to cure insomnia and sleep better.

In my own experience I have found with raw I can sleep longer throughout the night. No more waking up for that hour or 2. You may find the longer that you are raw, the better your sleep becomes.

Melatonin and benadryl work for me. I have had every type of sleep med you can imagine. Melatonin is a natural hormone, benadryl is an antihistamine/allergy medicine. You can take up to 50 mg of the benadryl (it leaves the body in 4 hours, so you shouldn't have problem waking up, but try on weekend if you are unsure) and you can take up to 3 mg of Melatonin. You can take both at the same time. This is what my doctor "prescribed" when I wanted to go off of prescriptions. Benadryl can be drying, so try the lowest dose first (25 mg).

Lunesta left a bitter metal taste in my mouth. Sonata and lunesta are not supposed to be habit forming.

You might want to look up articles on web about sleep hygiene too (about staying away from monitor and tvs later in evening, reducing caffeine, keeping regular hours all week long, etc).

Juicing Romain lettuce is the old raw food sleeping pill. Juicing two bags of those pre-washed Romain lettuce bags you get at almost any supermarket will do the trick. Gives you about 16 ounces of juice.

I've used it myself many times over several years.

Lettuce works wonders, especially the wild type of lettuce. Juice up the most bitter lettuce you can find and drink a big glass of that before bed time. It should do the trick.

Also, you will probably have amazing dreams!

what is your bedding like? i used to sleep up high. after throwing a twin mattress on the floor, i find that i fall asleep faster and deeply. but then i had done that after my 2nd 14-day water fast. so i'm not sure if i had anything to do with changing where i slept and how versus because i fasted.

it could be both. i do remember after fasting that i went to my aunt's home and the bed was up high. i had trouble falling asleep along with waking up really early. i had maybe 2-3 hrs. of semi-good sleep.

before i had to listen to music to lull me to sleep. :o
