View Full Version : Being Haunted by a Chain Smoker

Okay, this may sound really strange, but I hope someone has experienced this because it is kind of freaking me out. To make a long story short, I did my first 30 day raw challenge last Sept. It was great. Since then I have not been 100% raw, but have maintained a MUCH better diet and have been high raw with small bursts of 100%. However it seems that my body has been forever changed since my 30 day challenge. It is much more sensitive than it ever was to cooked food...even when I eat what I would consider healthier options. The biggest and weirdest symptom I experience when I have eaten cooked food is I get a strong smell in my nose. It is very distinct. It smells like I am sitting right behind a chain smoker. It follows me wherever I go and it is so real that I find myself holding my breath instinctually like I would if I were in the presence of actual smoke. I seriously have to remind myself to breath. Sometimes it lasts a few minutes or hours, but it has lasted for days at a time. It doesn't happen everytime I eat cooked food either and I haven't found any connection that really makes it act up worse so I don't think it is related to a particular food (although now that I think about it, roasted Macedemia nuts do seem to increase this problem- I haven't yet been able to afford raw ones!).

This has to be the most bizarre thing that has ever happed to me. I have to smother my pillow and shirt with aromatherapy oils so I can breathe deeply enough to fall asleep without feeling like I am suffocating from smoke exposure. When I get back on my raw, this symptom usually goes away quickly. I know what many of you would say- then duh, get back to 100%!! I know how to fix the problem, I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has had this kind of reaction in their bodies, why it is happening etc.? Could such a sensitivity to cooked food have occurred so quickly...and what does it mean?? Am I going crazy?

Did you ever smoke?

What about 2nd-hand smoke?

Whenever my husband's sinuses are getting impacted, he smells a smoke smell. I've noticed a similar thing, where I smell an exhaust smell. We live in a part of the country with lots of allergens all year round and we both have chronic sinus problems.

All this to say, maybe it's your sinuses. I've seen others post about experiencing immediate reactions to certain foods, and I've certainly experienced all kinds of things when I've eaten something that I haven't had in awhile--pain, itching, sore muscles...so why not sinus problems?

Chlorine bleach causes a smoke smell for me. I have to avoid it. If I don't I smell the smoke for a good 2 to 3 days. It's horrid.

What an interesting situation you are encountering.

I'm allergic to nicotine so I have always tried to avoid smoke. When I do get exposed to it for any stretch of time, when I get home I shower to let the warm steam get into my sinuses. I blow my nose and without fail I will "smell" cigarette smoke strongly and usually have a lovely amount of fresh blood in the tissue. Too much information I'm sure!

The blood aspect is weird - it started a couple years ago and ONLY happens when exposed to cigarette smoke. A couple breaths won't do it but if someone is smoking as much as 1 cigarette, I'm done. But, after that initial blowing of my nose, there's no more blood.

i agree. *nodding*

either that or you have a Guide who does not want you eating cooked food so they are doing this to get you to stop. ;)

I agree it is probably a sinus thing. I find eating high raw gives me a chlorine smell, like I am in a pool. I use a shower filter and also drink distilled water, so my exposure to chlorine is limited. It's almost like my sinuses are reallly clear and open.

hmmm...thanks for the replies. i am not around anyone who smokes, i don't use chlorine bleach, i have a shower filter and an r.o. water system- i live a pretty natural lifestyle.

we do live in an area that has lots of farms and agriculture (and we moved here last may- i started experiencing these symptoms in sept or oct). i've never had sinus/allergy problems before, but prior to this move, i've lived in the city. i guess i associated this new experience to my raw beginnings, but maybe that is only part of it.

besides of course the obvious (eat raw!) what can i do to help clear my sinuses? should I do a sinus wash or what? does anyone know what causes the sinuses to get impacted? (i don't eat ANY dairy or animal products even when I'm not doing raw, so I would think I would have less mucus and less sinus issues!) this is really maddening!

I don't know about the smoke problem, but I'd recommend avoiding roasted nuts as much as possible. I noticed if I eat roasted nuts I can easily eat 2000 calories worth in 5 minutes but with raw nuts I can't do this at all, I also noticed my fat % of my body skyrockets when I eat roasted nuts because you can eat unnaturally large amounts when they're raw.

I try to limit my cooked foods to only boiled foods, this limits the temperature to 212 degrees limiting the damage caused to the food.

Hey Veg have you ever thought to go see a Medical Intuitive about it? They can read energy in the body and in your energy fields, etc. It's pretty amazing and enlightening. I bet you would get great answers.
