I have not been ill since I've been raw (10 months) but my body is fighting something and it hurts.

My throat feels like it's on fire.

I've tried sucking on garlic: didn't help and grossed me out.

I'm desperate for relief by this point; I was even considering getting a cough drop and sucking on it; but I don't want to do that...I would prefer a natural way of easing my discomfort.

Any ideas?

I haven't been sick in 10 months myself, but if I feel a little scratchy throat, these are my responses. If you use honey, you can mix honey and lemon juice together and eat it on a spoon. I gargle with warm water with vinegar or salt in it. I also drink a large quantity of water with a dash of cayenne and lemon juice. My daughter had an ear infection and a sore throat and she took a very potent Oregano Oil for 3-4 days and it went away. It didn't taste good, but she just put a few drops in her mouth every few hours.
I hope you feel better very soon!!

Eating an orange or rosehips are great - get lots of vitamin C right now.

Make a strong tea of ginger and sip that slowly.

You can also gargle with a strong tea of rosemary or thyme as these are great antifungal/antibacterial herbs. Honey is a great healer as well if you use it

Bell peppers are excellent for sore throats. Red is the best. If you can't get red, then get orange which is the next best, or yellow or if you can't get any of those, green. All you need to do is eat a bite of it. I find a bite of a red pepper will kill the sore throat for about 2 hours. Green will kill it for about a half an hour. I just cut a pepper or two into bite sized pieces and keep it in the fridge so I can get a piece whenever I need it. If I go out, I take some in a small cooler.

You should also gargle with hot salt water. As my mom would put it, "Just as hot as you can stand it!"

i think i'm coming down w/ a cold myself. yesterday, i threw a bunch of oranges into the blender and had those. i'm feeling slightly better today.

don't forget to rest, & allow your body to do its thing!

Sounds like all good ways of dealing with it! A couple of weeks ago I felt like I was coming down with something that was going around, and I took a Chinese herbal remedy that I got at the health food store called Dr. Zhen's Yin Chiao. You take that for a day or so, and if that doesn't knock it out you proceed to his other cold and flu formula(can't remember the name of it at the moment). The trick is that you have to get on the Yin Chiao THE MINUTE you feel something coming on so your body can work with it to fight off incoming...My acupuncturist friend swears by cutting a clove of garlic up into 8 little pieces and swallowing the whole thing without chewing, several times a day. Some people like to gargle with raw apple cider vinegar and water too.
About the oranges, that is excellent too, because they have the most potent form of Vitamin C along with all the other raw benefits that we know about. In the past, what I have done on a warmer day is sit out in the sun, sweat, and eat a plate of oranges over the period of an hour, and I would often feel a LOT better after doing so and funkiness would be warded off.
And then sometimes what feels like a cold/sore throat coming on is just plain old detox from raw doing its work in your body, or you're detoxing from eating something less than ideal for you. I've had this happen a couple of times since February, and learned what not to eat.
