Okay, first I have to say that I have discovered a new love affair with nori thanks to everyone here, lol.. :) I have been lurking mostly and don't post much because normally every question I've have, I have been able to find through the search button.. I couldn't find the answer to this one though but if I missed something, I apologize.

My question though is how many of you purchase your nori through your local asian market? I found that I can get about 100 sheets there for about $10-$15. I can buy 10 sheets of organic nori from Earth Fare for about $5.. which is a BIG difference. Both are raw so I'm not concerned with that. I'm just concerned about getting organic or non-organic.. I'm not sure if the nori at the asian market is organic or not though because the labels are in japanese and I can't read them.. :D

How important is organic? If there are mercury issues or whatever then I'd rather be safe than sorry, but if I can save money that would be wonderful too..

Thanks!

An organic apple and one that is not organic -- WOW, worlds apart. I have not been able to discern the difference between non organic and organic, however, with nori.

A lot of the nori in asian markets is not raw, unfortunately. I have a HUGE asian market near me and I spent a lot of time searching and reading the various packages because they have a whole aisle of nori and seaweed products. None of it was raw.

This site sells nori. Just checked the store today, in fact.

I buy mine organic and raw from Bright Earth Foods - $18/50 sheet pack. They also sell a wide range of superfoods at very good prices (I wrote a post on my blog about them last week).

Their website is under construction but you can call them up and order (541) 535-6693.

Thanks so much for all the replies.

Eva, it's good to know there is not too much of a difference. I won't worry too much about it.

Andra, I have read that if nori is black and not green, then it is raw and the asian market has both there. Am I missing something? Even in Ani Phyo's book she says that black is raw and green is not. I noticed some packages said dried, but not sure what the drying process is..

Alina, I will look into your suggestion. That isn't too bad of a price, I just like the convenience of driving to the market (plus it's more fun.. lots of interesting stuff there).
