View Full Version : My sprouts never turn out

I've made (or tried to make) alfalfa and broccoli sprouts and they just don't work for me. I need an idiots guide to sprouting or something! I hate sprouts, all I can figure out is that my negative energy towards them really affects them and they don't grow correctly. I want to eat them b/c I feel like I need to, in case you're wondering why I keep trying.
I soak them overnight, then rinse, then put in a jar with a mesh lid. Rinse several times per day. Leave on counter. They do grow, but they're a freakish color and the texture has made me gag. I can't get them down.
Store sprouts don't have the same rigid crunchy texture. Blech. What am I doing wrong?

Send them loving thoughs and vibrations. I sing and talk to my plants all the time. It really works!

I developed a love for gardening when I was five years old. I found a ten-year-old package of poppy seeds in the basement of our house and begged my dad to let me plant them. My dad tried to tell me that they wouldn't grow because the seeds were expired, but I stubbornly refused to listen. I planted the seeds outside in the garden, and watered them everyday. I thought constantly about how beautiful the poppies would be.
Later that summer, while I was staying at my grandparent's house, my dad called to tell me that while he was mowing the lawn, he found the most lovely and vibrantly red poppies he had ever seen.
I believe that plants are even more sensitive to our thoughts and attitudes than people are!

Have you read Anastasia? If not, it sounds like it's right up your alley. :)
I'll try and be more positive...and maybe they'll taste better, too.

Personally, I would say don't eat sprouts if you hate them! When you feed yourself food that you have such strong emotions towards (especially negative) it will not do you any good! Food should be enjoyed, not hated :)

I would suggest you go to a local farmers market and find a sprouts seller and try various sprouts - find the ones you like, they do differ in taste, smell, and texture. Sunflower sprouts are very sweet and usually go well for people.

I am a big lover of sprouts, grow many of them and eat them almost daily.

I tried various sprouting techniques and jar method did not work for me! Jar doesn't allow sprouts to drain well so most often they end up rotting, I'm guessing that's what happened to you.

I ended up buying and automatic sprouter at the Raw Spirit Festival and my life has changed forever - I wrote a couple of posts on my blog about it so you can check them out if you want :) (just click on link in my signature)

I completely agree with Alina about sprouts rotting in jars, I grow my sprouts in colanders and strainers.
I haven't read Anastasia . . . I'll check it out.

Tell us how it goes!

I was just recently reading about the collective energy of the universe and how much many people believe our negativity can affect various life sources. I haven't tested this out, but it resonates with me.

I keep reading about Anastasia! The only thing is that I have about 20 books here, and I have only read about 13 of them. I feel like I "shouldn't" buy another book until I have read the ones I have at least one time. Sigh. I better get moving!

I agree but in trying to get pregnant I feel like I SHOULD eat sprouts.
Believe it or not, we have a fabulous farmers market here in Ithaca and absolutely no one grows sprouts! Anyone want to move here and grow them? Lol.
