Have any of you guys experienced better eyesight with raw foods?
It has been a bit over 2 years since I went raw (AND vegan!), and every time I've gone to my eye doctor since (2x), my eye prescription has gotten better by .25. (I'm talking contact lenses.)

So 2006 I was +5.50R and +5.25L.
2007 = +5.25R and +5.00L
2008 (just now!)= +5.00R and +5.00L.

It's a DEFINITE change since before, because I was getting progressively WORSE every year before then. I only had a year or two of stable prescription before changing my diet and exercise.

I don't know much about vision, optometry or scientificy smart things, but I see that as an improvement...perhaps someone has some insight as to whether this is a big deal or just a typical improvement that anyone could have?

I'm no expert, but this sounds like good news to me!!!

SRD,

That is great! I asked the opthamologist a couple times and he assured me that eyes do not improve. My belief is that other parts/medical challenges, etc. can and do, so why not eyes. If you go every year and get new glasses, your eyes become more dependent on the glasses correcting the vision--maybe really making the eyes weaker in a sense.

I hope to see other experiences as this really is of interest to me.

Well that's why I think it's fantastic - I wear glasses/contacts 100% of the time I'm awake. So any "muscle weakening" due to usage just isn't the problem. I've worn glasses since I was born, essentially. My mom only found out about my vision when I was 2, and I was always closing one eye or crossing them to see.

I just saw the doctor this week and both eyes were better by .25 for me as well! I have been increasing the sun-gazing and not wearing my contacts or glasses hardly at all for the last month or so....

I finally quit going to the ophthalmologist 5 weeks ago, after he dilated my eyes and they became inflamed again because of it (according to him). I've decided that MDs are quacks! All they know is what they learn at their pharma industry endowed medical schools. They don't have a clue about health. My uveitis went back to being really bad in both eyes for a week, and now they are very slowly getting better. Congrats on your improving vision. If you want to stay healthy (once you get there through raw food), keep away from the "medical profession".

Mine have gotten worse. They were something like 4.25/4.75 preraw, and the next time they were 5.50/5.75.

I had even tried spending time (not straining) with no glasses or contacts. I was sure they would be better.

It's interesting you post this now, I'm thinking about what I can do for my eyes. I really want them to be better, not worse. I'm considering laser surgery if other things don't work, but I don't know if I could ever actually do it. I really don't know what it entails.

Eyes do seem to respond well to good nutrition. Before I started eating more raw foods my glasses always got stronger with each check up. This last time my prescription stayed the same. This really got my attention because its the first time that has ever happened. I have only been raw for just over a year now (Aug 1, 07) and I am hoping to see more improvement on my next eye check up.

Be careful with the laser surgery. Some people get permanent vision problems because of it. A coworker of mine had it at about age 40. He needed a pretty big correction and now the scar lines disperse light so badly when his pupils open wide that he can't drive at night. Imagine not being able to drive at night from age 40 onward! On top of that, he's got several pairs of reading glasses that he's always fumbling with, or he discovers that he doesn't have the right pair for whatever he's trying to see (he's 50 now).

Another coworker got the surgery in her mid-50's and didn't get a great result. She found out after the fact that the success rate isn't so high for her age/gender.

After hearing them talk, I don't think I'll ever have anything done to my eyes that isn't absolutely necessary.

Done. Off the list of options. Thanks for sharing. I have really just been lightly toying with the idea.

I agree, please don't get the laser surgery operation. A friend of mine had it done 10 years ago and she's still dealing with eye problems that showed up 1-2 years later. And guess what? She's back in glasses. I know it's worked for many, but it always freaked me out thinking about a laser in my eye. What if the doc sneezed? lol. I'm okay with using contacts and wearing glasses. They make me look older and smart anyway. ;)

Congratulations SmilingRawDancer, my eyesight has improved considerably in the past year too. I'm nearsighted with a (former) slight astigmatism in my left eye. My left eye was also weaker and needed a higher prescription. This spring had my annual check-up and well the astigmatism is gone and my eyes are the same strength right now. I've been going to the same opthamologist for many years and he was truly blown away. He checked me twice. I expect both of my eyes to keep getting stronger. Physically my eyes look brighter to me and my vision is definately sharper which I think is also because my third eye is more open being raw. It's all interconnected. :)

I've never had glasses or contacts, buy my eyes look brighter and bluer. I have hazel eyes. Before raw, most people would say that I have brown eyes from a distance and hazel up close. Now most people think I have turqoise eyes from a distance and hazel eyes from up close. It's pretty neat.

Congrats rawdancer!!!

thanks for sharing the good news with us! i now have hope for my eyes. :D i wear glasses & contacts full-time. i tried going w/o them for a little while, but i felt so blind... just plain not safe crossing the streets and such.

besides eating RAW, do you do anything else for your eyes like those eye exercises i read about sometimes?

Eyes change for the worse, so why can't they change for the better? That's just to keep customers, same as all other medical areas.

When I was verrry young (about 3/4?) I had a pronounced "lazy eye". It would shut whenever bright light was shone on it. Anyways, I put up with the glasses until I was about 10. My parents said I was being "rebellious", and I suppose I was, but I really couldn't figure out how these glasses of mine were supposed to help at all (plus I hated not being able to do stuff because I was afraid they'd fall off, break, or get lost, the latter two meaning I'd have to be subjected to the pain of shopping for glasses). As usual, mum and dad thought I was off my rocker, but the funny thing was, at my very last eye doctor visit (about 3 years ago?), the doc said that my eyes had made a dramatic improvement, and the only thing I had to do now was get my hair outta my eyes! That old guy was the only doctor (eye, med, or anything else) that I ever liked or trusted. :p Then we moved 2 provinces away, and we just never got around to going. I'm perfectly fine with that, because I have this perfectly sensible phobia when it comes to doctors of any type. ;)
