Okay - about a year ago, I was eating 75% raw. I felt great and fell off the wagon during the holidays and never went back (although I do eat a raw green salad daily). I have not been feeling well, and am ready to try again.
Today is day one, I have not had any coffee (I drink 3-6 cups daily of strong black coffee usually) and have been drinking lots of organic green tea as a substitute. I am so hungry right now - this is what I have eaten so far today...
bfast: 1 orange, tea, handful of almonds
lunch: green salad with one tomato, half an avocado, red leaf lettuce, carrots, tea, an apple with peanut butter (All natural PB, but I know the peanuts are probably roasted, ingredients just say "peanuts")
snack: grapes, apple slices, handful of almonds
What should I eat so that I'm not so hungry? I feel that I've already had a lot of nuts. I should also mention that I am drinking a LOT of water - I've had 5-6 very large glasses already today.

Why did you eat only half the avocado if you're hungry? Most of the things you mentioned don't have much calories, fruits and vegetables, while packed with vitamins, are 90% water and have very little calories. Try adding denser foods like avocado, nuts, seeds, etc.
Your bfast adds up to about 300-400 calories, your lunch to about 500 calories, and your snack to about 500, that's about 1300-1400 calories, depending on how active you are this may not be enough for you, even if you're not active, this isn't that much.
I'm a very physically active person so I eat about 4000 calories a day (anything less and I'm starving before going to bed), I get most of my calories from walnuts, nuts are very filling.

I only ate half an avocado because it's all I had in the fridge. :) I think I may have a green smoothie now....

Eat................
yes. eat or do some deep cleaning. :) the cravings could come from nutrient deficiency, emotional eating, addiction or feeding some weird thing inside of you.

I went through that phase the first time I went raw... it turned out that I was not eating enough of the denser raw foods... avocados, nuts, seeds, and etc.

Well, my reply is kinda different. It took me weeks to learn how different it feels to have a tummy full of raw. It feels like there's a little space in your stomach, something I had never liked to feel. I did start to notice how my stomach felt as I was filling it up. Turns out, 3/4 full is plenty full enough for me, but it took awhile to find what was personally comfortable.
Try to discern if you just have a bit of space in your stomach or if you have so much that you need to feed it. Pay attention to how your stomach feels as it fills.
Eat all you want, though. Don't pre-decide how much is enough. This isn't jenny craig! As you renutrify yourself, you will likely want less after awhile, so don't force it before it's time.
Some early foods that helped fill me up were avocado, corn, pates with nuts (but not loose nuts or nut butters), and desserts made with dried fruit.

Alissa says in her book to eat, eat, eat, especially in the beginning. After your body adjusts to the new gig, it will settle down, ....or not....but eat! ;)

Drink some water. Do something that you find relaxing, to clear your mind. Then, if you're still hungry, eat some more raw food :) . A smoothie might be just the thing.

you are ABSOLUTELY not eating enough! do you have alissa's book?
you need to get it and read it cover to cover.
i drink one cup of freshly brewed coffee everyday.....and tea as well.
you dont have to give up coffee but i would cut down on it.
eat eat eat ! denser heavier foods ! and GREEN SMOOTHIES! make them and suck 'em down. you be full as a tick !
the food you have eaten for one day is nothing! you need LOTS when you start raw.
OF course you are hungry!
eat and you will be fine!

I guess just hang in there. Ive been raw for like 8 days and cravings have pretty much dissappeared. Like some others have said, eat. Eat all you want.
Nice work getting rid of the coffee! I went through a heck of a detox when getting all of the toxins out of my system. Ouch.
I have to agree with the many folks who say to eat, eat, eat! Just eat as much as you need to fill up.
But, just know somewhere in the back of your mind that most people don't know the difference between their body's true request for food (ie hunger signals) and what they think is hunger. I think this is to be expected in the beginning of going 100% and is totally OK...

If you have a blender, make yourself a green smoothie.
Ok, you are going to need to do some more planning for you will need to soak sunflower seeds or any nut, to preparre some patte, alfredo pasta etc....
At first when you go raw food, i noticed that we seem to need more raw gourmet and heavy food.
Don't worry about the amount of nuts, just eat and eat. You need to learn to make more variety of raw food and this isn't hard at all. I couldn't bake and i make all kind of desert.
You can try something like this, half cut of raw tahini butter, 2 big table spoon of miso, pinch of celtic sea salt, 2 table spoon of raw apple vinager or half of a lemon juice. Blend everything together. This make a nice japanese noddle sauce. Then pour on top of any pasta vege. I love carrot, it tastes almost like a cheese pasta. You can cut some green onion or regular onion and eat this with it. It is very filling.
Something else that is very filling, is to make a raw soup. Check for recipes of any one.
Best wishes

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions! That green smoothie worked wonders!
I am almost 1 week almost 100% raw and I feel AWESOME! No coffee needed - I have tons of energy! Just occasional slight headaches, which I've heard is to be expected at first. I also had a small glass of wine last night and read on the label afterwards that it has sulfites - maybe that's why I have a headache today. :) It's totally manageable though.
I had to wake up at 5am today and did it - no problem! Yippee!

I found some "RAWeos" at Whole Foods the other day - they also really help me with temptation issues when the rest of the family are eating baked cookies, etc. :)

I try to always have a dessert in the fridge.....most of them stay good a really long time. That helps when I'm cravings something or just want something good for no other reason that to enjoy something.

During transition I needed a ton of food.
Fruits all morning, one at a time, every 30-60 minutes. Beginnng with watery fruits, and ending an hour before lunch with dense fruits like bananas, or dates. (Allow 60 minutes digestion for dense fruits.)
Lunch was a HUGE salad, usually with an olive oil dressing, nuts and/or seeds.
Dinner was about experimenting with raw recipes.
In the evening there was a raw dessert or dense fruit.
That's a lot of food, but remember....it's transition.
It's not about hunger and sacrifice. It's about abundance!

I put half an avocado and a tablespoon or so of hemp seeds into my smoothie this morning. (2 apples, 1 banana, 3 kiwis, oj, bunch of spinach, allspice, 1/" ginger) This is the MOST FILLING smoothie I've ever had! Now I know what to include before busy days on road, but I am bummed! One of the things I like best is the "light" food that I nibble on throughout the day. This full feeling reminds me of being stuffed from pasta! My yummy little granola cookies are just sitting on my desk...not appealing at all :(
Note:
It's 4 pm (orig post at lunchtime), and I am still NOT hungry!!! (and I have great rawcipie plans for after work - nuts/seeds soaking & everything) :(

The raweos really helped me in the beginning.
There is a carmelized nut mix from "Good Stuff by Mom and Me" that you can order on-line. They are really filling and easy to digest.
I find a shake made with soaked dates, almond milk, and frozen bananas really help fill me up.
"Living on Live Food" has a lot of very filling recipes too.
