I am sooo upset today. First I went to go do my workout (jog/walk) and I thought I would try a different place and ended up driving around for an hour and not finding a place to go  So that ticked me off that I wasted so much gas for nothing (I drive a suburban so I have a huge gas hog!) Then I thought gosh I have really been working out alot and eating raw and cut out drinking wine (drank one day out of the last 10 when usually we had 2 glasses a night and more on the weekends) I thought I felt lighter so I thought why not hop on the scale today but I usually weigh myself on thursdays and see how much weight I lost. BIG MISTAKE!!!! I gained a pound. I am soooo upset and that just was the icing on the cake! I was really hoping I would have lost 5 lbs. I workout 4-6 times a week and eating right and cutting out drinking and NADA...I gained! I am so pissed with myself that I feel like throwing this diet out the window along with working out..I won't do that but that is how I feel now. I am trying to be positive but it is frustrating knowing I have been stuck at the same weight for 8 WEEKS! I just can't seem to lose weight no matter what I do. I really wanted to lose 10lbs by my birthday but I know now that is impossible as I will probably still weigh the same! I keep hoping it is just muscle weight I gained. Gosh I really need to get out of this foul mood I am in :( Any suggestions on getting out of this rut I am in??

Be more gentle with yourself. As your body changes there are so many fluctuations and you have to take into consideration that muscle weighs more than fat and it could possible that you're retaining a little water too. Bath scale weight is not a good indicator for how much your body is changing and I can understand your frustration. I think you brought this up before and I'm sorry you're still being so hard on yourself woman. My sincere advice is to get rid of that bath scale and don't weigh yourself for a couple of months at least. And perhaps just consider measuring yourself and going by how your clothes are fitting. Eat raw, exercise, get plenty of fresh air, meditate and perhaps create a vision board of where you want to be. Focus on the positives. Focus on the positives. It's worth repeating. :)

Whoa Nelly, slow down!

Each day, look in the mirror and say how much better you look and feel. Say this out loud.

STOP WEIGHING! Why are folks obsessed with this? Scales are false hopes.

Be positive. Be patient. Be happy with the healthy lifestyle you are living.

So when is your birthday? I have found that I gain a little right before my weight is about to drop some. Also, you might try a couple of days of juice fasting. Fasting can help with detox which can impede weight loss. Are you getting enough rest, too? Too little sleep can hurt your weight loss efforts as well. I find that I have had some success in not eating after 7:00p.m. I know it is frustrating. I am working out right now and gaining muscle so my weight has gone up a couple of pounds, but I know it will come off soon.

Thanks for the encouragement from you both. It means alot.

Yes I know I do look and feel a little better. My bf says I am hot....lol.

I never used to be one to weigh myself all that much. I just started weighing myself weekly when a friend of mine from back home started Weight Watchers and I told her I would join her on her weightloss journey and we woudl report to each other daily and report our weight loss/gains on thursdays. she has alot more to lose than I do and we have both lost about the same amount of weight and she doesn't excercise near as much as I do. she is lucky if she gets excercise in 1-2 times a week. I do have to give myself credit my bodyfat has gone down 3%. well according to my tanita scale anyway.

I just have to remember the weight didn't pile on overnight and won't come off overnight either. I have to also quit dwelling on how good I USED to look. I also have cut way back on drinking (that is a huge step for me in itself!) I could be a little more moody today because that time of month is coming any day now and I ALWAYS get moody around that time

Anna my birthday is Nov 17th. I thought about juice fasting but I am always so hungry when I do that I can never stick with it longer than 2-3 days. I might try fasting one day a week and see if that helps. I also haven't been drinking green smoothies lately.

I am getting enough sleep I think. I also don't eat after 7:00...if I am hungry I either have tea or sometimes a smoothie..maybe it is the smoothie doing it..lol

Hi Anna - I know I am fairly new here but do know how you are feeling as I am sure so do many others...

I can be obsessed with my scale at times that my coworkers and mother say that want to take the scale away from me LOL

But just stay focused on your eating , exercising, rest, meditate/pray etc and know that you may be losing inches instead of actual pounds which either in my eyes are awesome, I know it is easier said then done :)

I was always told when losing weight prior when I didnt lose - muscle weighs more then fat and man at one point I thought if my trainer says that one more time LOL....but it is true and just know that you are moving forward and will acheive all you are setting forth - it may just take alittle time and believe me I know how fast I want it and now LOL...but unfortunatley it doesnt happen that way :(

But do know you have MANY positives such as, not drinking as much A+++, eating raw A+++, exercising A+++ so you have so much to be proud of and know you are getting healthy and will get to where you want to be - please dont beat yourself up - I do that to myself alot and I know it isnt good....

Keep doing an awesome job!!

Sandy

3% body fat? Are you a woman? Even an elite female athlete should have way more body fat than that. There are dangers associated with too little body fat.

Are you sure that you need to be concerned about losing weight?

Random, I think you mis-read her post. She said it went down by 3%, not that she is at 3% body fat (I dont think she would be alive that low). ;)

Scales are evil objects. I suggest throwing them all out and going by how you look, you feel, and your clothes fit.

I weigh less than I did several years ago, but I don't have the same muscle due to medical issues. I looked better then at more weight, and I could wear a different clothing size than I do now. Going by my current lower "weight" I should be "happier" right? No. I want fitness and health, not a goal weight that may have nothing to do with either.

Truth is, I am happy with my weight now. What I would like is better fitness and muscle. You are not overweight but undermuscled and underfit (ha ha). Or undertall.

Focus on the good things and throw the dang scale away! (BTW I can go or down up 3-4 lbs in the same week).

I would also suggest for people who want to lose weight to not eat the same calories everyday. When I used to body build, I would eat anything I wanted all weekend long. I would typically gain 5 lbs in one weekend. By Wed. all the weight plus some was burned off. When your body begins to think that it is in starvation mode or only getting a certain amount of calories every day, it adjusts.

You have to mix it up. For that reason I still watch what I eat during the week and at least have one day of no restrictions at least once a week. My body gets different calories and I fool it so that it never really knows what to expect.

Same thing with training. You cannot train hard every day and not expect a plateau. But, mix it up, and the body will not adjust as quickly.

Just my opinion.

I could be a little more moody today because that time of month is coming any day now and I ALWAYS get moody around that time

I ALWAYS go up a couple/few pounds the week or days before that TOM. One of the reasons I only weigh once a month - AFTER that TOM.

I never weigh around my cycle or when I haven't used the bathroom.

I think you answered your own question without even realizing it. I always gain two to three pounds right before my cycle begins and it doesn't come back off until after my period is over. This happens to me even if I am fasting. Don't worry you will see the scale move!

A more accurate depiction of what is going on would be to take measurements instead of just weight.

I hear your frustration and I know it well first hand - just hang in there and be consistent cause this is key. A break through is around the corner if you remain diligent. :)

BMI over 30 is considered obese, under 18, extremely underweight, and between 18 and 25, normal.

I love this Photo - hehehehe!

When you work out you gain muscle and muscle weighs more then fat. Also, it's important to drink enough water to flush out the toxins that are releasing from eating raw. Water is probably the number 1 fat increaser or loser........meaning when I'm toxic and not drinking enough water I retain water and the scale will show that and the other when I am drinking enough water and releasing toxins I release weight.
I tend to go up and down with my weight depending on what I'm eating and drinking and if I'm working out or not and if I'm going to or am cycling. Even raw I can overeat on the sugars............even raw sugars are not so great for me and of course that's what I want most; fruit and raw chocolate :D
When I eat mostly greens and veggies I FEEL GREAT and lose ......... but, mostly what I FEEL seems to be more important.
Listen to your body and your body will teach you ;)
This is a Process and it takes time to find our balance.........or so it seems for me anyways.
Many Blessings on your Raw Journey!

To the point of frustration and self-sabotage? I'm sure there are people who enjoy weighing themselves daily and often and if this works - great. I don't think the question is if you should weigh yourself often or not or to determine the level of judgement by those who don't, but the real question is how are you using this tool and is it working for you? The latter question is what I was picking up from the OP and it doesn't seem like it's doing her any good as she transforms her body. Alas it's not my body and not my scale, but advice was solicited and so I responded. If the scale works for those who use it, go for it and understand you will see daily fluctuations of gain and loss that are not necessarily permanent. The true measure is based on how you feel and your overall health in my opinion.

Under 18 fat percentage is not extremely underweight for female athletes and for men. The 18-25 % quote is the female average "healthy" fat ranges.

Ideal Body Weight and Body Fat Percent (from http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/fitnessevalandassessment/a/Body_Fat_Comp.htm)

Your ideal weight and fat-lean ratio varies considerably for men and women and by age, but the minimum percent of body fat considered safe for good health is 5 percent for males and 12 percent for females. The average adult body fat is closer to 15-18 percent for men and 22-25 percent for women.

Athletes tend to be at low end of this scale due to their increased lean weight (muscle mass). While low levels of body fat seem to be related to improved performance, body composition alone is not a great predictor of sports success. A linebacker needs to have enough body mass (lean and fat weight) to generate high forces and avoid injury. Body fat among elite athletes vary largely by sport. There is little evidence of any benefit when men drop under 8 percent and women drop under 14 percent body fat.

Also, muscle does not weigh more than fat. Which weighs more a pound of feathers or a pound of lead? They both weigh the same.

This link discusses the "muscle weighs more than fat" myth: http://www.onemorebite-weightloss.com/muscle-to-fat.html

But a quart of muscle weighs more than a quart of fat, and that's what people mean when they say that muscle weights more than fat. (Quart is a volume measurement, rather than a weight measurement).

I haven't read the other reply so sorry if i repeat, but if you are working out, keep in mind the muscle mass is heavier then the fat. Also, you could have a water accumulation. Don't worry, everything will come off, what is important, isn't the scale but loosing the volume and the bad fat. Also perhasp your body, is repairing or clearing something in your body that is very important first.

Focus always on your accomplishment. I bet that prior to this, you felt great emotionally and physically so you see, your effort are paying off.

Don't get discourage.

You may consider 100% raw food at some point

I found that cutting out salt (and oil) greatly reduces excess water weight, which is the first to go before the fat.
