Maybe because it does form a slight bit of alcohol that your body isn't used to anymore? That's just my guess though.:)

It's such a minute amount of alcohol, at least what I make and drink. Good thought though. Maybe any amount of alcohol is potent in some.
I don't know. When do you drink it? Have you eaten previous to drinking it? Or do you eat afterwards?

I know, I only say that because for me, the first time I had it, I had been raw for about 4-6 months, and I felt a wee bit tipsy by the time I was 1/2 way through the bottle! But I've always been a light-weight!:p
Besides, you following me lady?:p

I thought it might be that. I feel totally buzzed after 1/2 a bottle. At least I'm a healthy and cheap date!

Kombucha (which I love alot) is a SERIOUSLY FAST detoxer, so it may be that your body starts releasing toxins swiftly and in large quantities, and kind of overwhelms itself.

This happened to me at first, too. I thought it odd. Never occured to me it could be detox. I do prefer to drink kombucha on an empty stomach, so that does make sense.
I have to say, after drinking it for a while now, I don't get tired.

This has never happened to me with kombucha. I find it energizing.

Used to happen to me and I figured out it was immediate detox. Now I can enjoy them and that "tired, worn out" feeling is no more. I had a lot of yeast build up in my body at one point and I think this is what was happening to me. The fermented tea went to work almost immediately in my system I think.
Probably detox.

thanks. I'm pretty sure i have yeast, that's why I've been really upping my kombucha intake.

was absolutely horrid! Fortunately, I had read a book about kombucha and was prepared to stick it through. It lasted for several days.
I was not eating raw foods then but suffering from horrible asthma for which the doctors had me taking six prescriptions daily. From that first day of kombucha until I was in the hospital again, my asthma stayed gone! I even developed my last case of bronchitis then while the toxins were exiting.
Because I had read the book and realized what was happening, I stuck it out and went through it and the asthma disappeared and only came back after I was hospitalized in March 2007 for a massive stroke from stress and they put me on all kinds of meds. My husband found a kombucha scoobie and started making up kombucha tea and the asthma left again. I am so thankful for kombucha.

I just realized that I get really tired after drinking wheatgrass juice. Then, later on I feel really energized. Since wheatgrass juice is so cleansing, I figure this tiredness must be detox. Maybe you feel the same thing from kombucha?
northernstars - what an incredible story! I want to brew my own kombucha, but I think that would just drive my roommate over the edge. She already things I'm a nutter :) . Next year, when I have a single, you have to send me a scobie so I can brew it!
