I'm really excited! I got a 5-tray excalibur dehydrator for 179 (Canadian $) at Bass Pro Mills. I HATE that store and always feel slightly ill with all of the stuffed dead creatures staring at me, but my bf needed a new knife so there we were. I was really happy to find a dehydrator for a good price!

Anyway, I put kale chips in at 5:00, and they're definitely not ready. I need to go to bed soon. If I leave them in overnight, is that too long? Or should I take them out and then put them again tomorrow afternoon?

I also made pumpkin cookies using a recipe I found online (basically pumpkin, raisins, dates, ground flax seed and spices). The recipe just said to dehydrate. How long does it usually take the dehydrate cookies? I'm planning on leaving them in overnight and checking them in the morning.

Also, while I love having the new toy, I HATE the sound. Does the exhaust sound drive anyone else crazy? It seems like such noise pollution. I can't even imagine having it on all day every day. I'm thinking about putting it somewhere else in the house, like maybe the basement.

I have worried about leaving things in the D too long, but have found that it doesn't seem to matter that much. Your kale chips should be fine overnight. As for the cookies, you just have to taste-test till they reach a consistency you like. It's not like you can burn things, so I like the lower stress of dehydrating!

the excalibur is known for being noisy. I ordered a Good4U and it should be here tomorrow. I'm excited to see if it's quieter. You can leave the kale overnight. Then you can eat CHIPS for breakfast.

It will be interesting to know about the noise factor with your new Good4U...please let us know. I really don't mind the noise that my excalibur makes but then there is the TV going, someone is running on the treadmill and..........let's just say I live in an active house.

I don't have that one. Do you know you can place it in the Closet, Cupboard, Garage or at your Neighbors house. I have outgrown mine, it takes too much time to make something that will be gone in a flash. So I stick with eating juts RAW. IN JOY your Journey.
