First off I have to tell you that I live in a small town (pop 1200) in the New England hills. It's the most backwards town ever. We don't even have cable tv, and we just got high speed internet a couple of weeks ago. This town has 1 store, not a single stop light, nor a gas statio, no restaurants, or even a "center" in town, just 1 road that cuts thru. The town halls doesn't have hours, they just hang a sign on the door that says "OPEN", when someone is there, about 3x a month. People proudly display their confederate flag (WE ARE IN THE NORTH PEOPLE!)

Anyway, I have this friend that I love very much. She just left this message on my answering machine "OMG! You HAVE to call me! I'm reading this book, and I'm TOTALLY going vegan. DO you KNOW what is in MEAT? Do you KNOW what they do with meat not fit for human consumption? OMG! I am going vegan! Call me as soon as you get this! I NEED to talk to you!"

BWAHAHAHAHA! So, perhaps I will have some support here in the hills after all.

Vegan is one step in the right direction. ;) Perhaps she will consider trying raw. You would really have some support then. Don't push though, but consider asking her over for a raw dinner. Some people need to take it one meal at a time.

She sure knew who to run to, so now just listen to her and be there for her. I'm so proud of and for you.

Ugh, is it anywhere near Great Barrington? I lived there for a while and boy it was terrible. I think not having cable is great, but some things like cell phones, however evil they are, have become a necessity...and at the time there weren't any towers there! Yikes.
That's cool about your friend though!

raine? I don't have cell phone service where I live, nor cable! NOR neighbors. I love it! Love the peace and quiet and serenity of listening to life! But I also love the fact that there are so many that love the hustle and bustle of city life.

I just love it when I can hear a butterfly breathe as they go by ;)

That's fine and dandy when you're not being forced to drive on dangerous wintry roads to go to work/school every day. Without a cell phone I think it's really frightening driving in such conditions. Cell phones can save lives. I have one and keep it off unless I feel it's necessary to use one.
Plus, I'm a really bad driver and I just can't stand the thought of driving anywhere without a phone...just in case.

Oh, but I DO drive on roads in wintry conditions and even though schools are closed, central office staff (that'd be me) have to report. :( I can go a mile down the road and get signal on my cell...
I always have mine (cell) w/me.
Sorry I mis-spelled your name...
I'm just a boonies kinda gal

Lol, guess that's the difference. I'm a southern city gal livin in a wintry place and I still don't know and am so fearful of driving in wintry conditions. Luckily I don't have a car and I live downtown, lol.

If you don't mind...what town did you live in?

LOL. That's what I thought it would be like here, but alas I wasn't familiar with the area and didn't realize that the road that is just 20 ft from the house is THE major road for logging trucks, delivery routes, and all the hilltown folks to get to the cities.
