I (finally!) found some Jack Fruit in China town a couple of days ago. I found a great site that has pictures of how to take it apart and what is edible (http://www.kauaivacationresorts.com/jackfruit/jackfruit.html), but it says nothing about how long the fruit will keep in the fridge, either after it is cut open, then after all the parts are separated. Does anyone know?
Thanks!

My asian market has it.
What does it taste like?
Is it worth the $$?

This is so crazy--I have never heard of Jack fruit before yesterday. I am currently in Guam and I was at a local stand where they had this huge fruit. My first thought was that is was a durain since I have never seen one before, but no the man told me it was Jack fruit.
Well I was going to come on here and ask who has tried this and how long I can keep it. But you beat me to the punch!!
I have already put some in the freezer for smoothies but there is so much!!!

Jackfruit is ripe when you can squeeze the spiky outer shell, or it is soft to the touch.

Okay, you cut it open with a big sharp knife in fourths. Well, first put oil on the knife or else the sticky-ness won;t wash off. And put some on your hands too (after the incision so the knife won't slip out of course). Then take a peice of paper and put oil on it and rub it all over the jackfruit to get the sticky parts of the fruit moistened.

Then you pell the finger like parts holding the fruit away to reveal the fruit. Peel all the fruit out and put in a container. Then you cut the fruit part in half to reveal the seed and the membrane holding the seed. Throw those parts out (or boil the seed and eat if you aren't raw!!! he he he).

Once the fruit is de-seeded, seal in a tuperware container or ziploc in the fridge for a week or so. OR you can keep some in the freezer and de-thaw when you want to eat.

Jackfruit is my favorite. I have jackfruit trees in my yard, and it is jackfruit season now. YUMMY!!!

Wow, old post... but I found jackfruit, hooray! Sadly it's at an asian market an hour and a half away.. but it was already cut and stuff! Awesome. :p It kind of smells like velveeta cheese... which weirded my mom out, but I love it. Made a really good smoothie with two bananas and one cup jackfruit~

I love jackfruit!

With that out of the way...if you like durian and other tropical fruits you'd LOVE Jackfruit! I used to eat it non stop as a kid when we were in Thailand. You couldn't pry it out of my hands. It has that fruity plus vanilla-ness to it and the sunshiny colour and smell are awesome. I'm so having a childhood moment right now.

K&K Tropical Fruits on Spadina in Toronto Canada always have amazing jackfruit for any of you from that area. Usually others like mangosteens, soursop and fresh tamarind. It's a must for me when I'm in Canada.

Cheers,
