I haven't really ever been keen on coconut, young or mature. I can handle small amounts, but generally it's just too much. Two bites and I'm done

Today, I drank the ENTIRE COCONUT full of coconut water! I've been reading all about the electrolytes and goodness of coconuts, and when I was cleaning my fridge, I found one I hadn't eaten. (I blend the meat/water with half a pineapple for my boyfriend, who is addicted to these raw Pina Coladas!) On a whim I started chopping away a very small spot of mould growth from it sitting in some moisture. I kept cutting, don't know why, and soon I was down to the hard husk. I kept cutting until all that was left was the flat bottom, and easily used the sharp edge of my hammer to quickly, easily, and quietly make a hole in the top. It was like the coconut did it itself! Ha! And the husk peeled away so easily from the meat, that I had just a water-encased circle of coconut meat (just at the top where I chopped). It was the best coconut I've ever tasted.

That coconut shell is going to be turned into a rattle for my healing work. I guess it seems like not a big deal, but it was a really neat experience!

I love coconut water and even it's meat. I use a Machette to whack the darn thing. I tried the hammer and also throwing it on the concrete, but best for me is the Machette which I dry right after wards with paper towel. For just the milk and not opening up the coconut I take my own screw driver, then whack it with a hammer in a few places around the top of the coconut and out comes the water into my glass large measuring cup or a large glass bowl. I can then open up my coconut meat with the liquid now gone or stored for later in glass covered jar.

What a magickal experience:) I dearly love young coconuts, but alas, they are very rarely seen here. You should try making a coconut smoothie sometime - the water and the flesh in the blender with ice to make it thick...yummmmmmm!

I'd love to see pics of your rattle when you make it!

I got a coconut at walmart this weekend. I was excited to try drinking it, but when I punctured it, there was zero liquid inside. It smelt kinda sourish too so I just trashed it :(

Mattye - I can't wait until I get another young coconut so that I can make your Cream of Mushroom soup. It sounds so good!

There are tons of videos on youtube about opening young coconuts. Check it out!

I just bought 2 young coconuts from the international fruit market. I have never tried them before but I am excited to have found them. I will have to do some research now on the best recipes for them.

Hi,
Today my 4 young coconuts arrive:) I am going to make chocolate pudding f.e:D

@crazy healer lady: If you cant eat mor than 2 bites of coconut i assume that u re not eating enough in general. Here a video for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8mPm6qbRkM
I know you feel "higher" when you eat small amounts and single meals. But its not worth to become like this guy in the vid:eek:

i made a really bad experience on a fruit based raw food diet. The fact that u re eating 100% raw doesnt mean u need less nutrients in your diet. U need the nutrients otherwise u get sick and finally u die.

Just 'cause she can only eat two bites of coconut at a time doesn't mean she eats like a bunny all the time!

Mongodelight, thanks for your concern! I can eat a lot more coconut now. I've been really craving it, and avocado. I must need fats ^^ I do eat quite a bit, don't worry :P It was only the two bites with coconut. I can devour most other things.
