hey guys,
ive recently turned raw. one of my favourite foods used to be stuffing my face with doritos and onion and chive dip, salsa dip, or pepper dip.
can these dips be made just as good/tasty raw.
and also what can be used to replace doritos, ie what can i use to dip into the dip itself.
any help would be much appreciated,
Jon

I like flax crackers or onion bread and cut up veggies with ranch dip. My grandmother ate this with wild abandon. I think we were secretly competing with each other to get to the bottom of the bowl. LOL!
Here's the recipe:
Snowdrop's ranch dressing/dip
for those missing that hidden valley feeling. soak time 1-2 hrs
5 Minutes to Prepare
Ingredients
1-1/2 c nuts (cashew or mac or combo)
soak them for a creamier dressing (1-2 hr is fine, then drain)
3/4 - 1 c filtered water for blending
3 T lemon juice
(translates into approx 1/2 lemon)
1/3 c cider vinegar
1/3 c evoo
3 T agave ( or 3 soaked dates)
2 cloves garlic
1 t garlic pwd
3 t onion pwd
1 t dill
1 T sea salt
1/2 t basil
and to add after it's done:
1/4 c finely minced parsley
another 1/2 t dill, minced
Directions
makes 3 cups
serving size 2 T
vitamix blend all ingredients till creamy and smooth except the last 2,
then once blended, stir in the last 2 ingredients.
thickens in fridge.
thin to desired consistency if using as a dressing- or toss into wet lettuce leaves as is.
Number of Servings: 24
I make it with less water so it is more of a dip

I just made this last night. It tastes better the next day. I also added alot
more spices as I like my stuff spicy! I ate this last night on some raw onion bread I had on hand. today I had it with cucumbers and celery.
delicious, creamy dip made from sunflower seeds and spices!
1 c. soaked sunflower seeds
3/4 c. water
2 Tbsp. Nutritional yeast
3/4 tsp. salt
"dash" black pepper
1/8th -1/2 tsp. chipotle powder
1/8th clove garlic
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1 Tbsp. paprika
Blend seeds, water and salt until creamy. Add remaining ingredients and blend until well combined.
Not sure what you could use to replace the dorito's though. Maybe someone else has a suggestion for you!

I absolutely love taco night – at least a once a week occurrence. These tortillas area easy-to-make and delicious.
For an out of this world feast, make this with walnut taco meat, pico de gallo, guacamole and macadamia sour creme. Now we just need a raw spanish rice recipe!
Ingredients
1 cup goden flax seeds, soaked for 8 hours in equal part water
½ avocado, ripe
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
sea salt to taste
water to for consistency
Preparation
Soak the flax seeds. Then, blend everything. Spread 1/6 batter on Teflex sheets (about 6″ wide, should make 6). Dehydrate 95° for 2-3 hours and flip. Dehydrate for another 2-3 hours. Remove before crispy.
These can be made the day before and then stored in the refrigerator.

I just made Snowdrop's Ranch Dressing this past week and made it into a dip by using 1/3 of each of the liquids the recipe states to use. It was very, very thick and perfect for a dip!
p.s. Don't forget to taste as you go, cuz we each have different favorite tastes. This was a little too sweet for my taste and so next time will leave out the agave. I used all the spices even though I cut down on the liquids as I like things spicy. Pretty good stuff!!!

Look........I have a recipe file where I collect recipes. I try to help anyone who is looking for something and I have it in My files. I print it the way I have it stored. I am NOT trying to take credit for anything. I am sure she is happy to get a recipe for what she is looking for, no matter where it came from.

I found it!
Rawritos
3 Cups Sprouted Sunflower Seeds
4 Cups Frozen Corn, thawed
1/2 Cup Braggs
1/2 Cup Water
1/4 Cup Onion Powder
1 Tsp Garlic Powder
<note: stop here to make them "just" really great corn chips>
2 Tbsp Taco Seasoning
2 Tbsp Chili Powder
1 - 2 Tbsp Nutritional Yeast
Blend well in food processor and spread on Teflex Sheets. If you are making corn chips, when you flip them SPRINKLE them with a mix of the following: 1/3 Nut Yeast, 1/3 Taco Seasoning, 1/3 Chili Powder. I use a little shaker and use a lot of shake. They are a powdery, cheezy, taco-y, red corn chip. Hmmm... THAT'S A DORITO!
These are quick, addictive and yummy! OMG. So Addictive! I haven't made them in awhile and people ask about them all the time. I'll definitely have them in my "book" one day, but like this is totally something I am happy to share. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! :-)

don't be disheartened! You will end up using them in other simple recipes. This isn't a dip, but you can make a super duper healthy apple pie that is SO good. It's the first thing I fed to my family to test out some RAW recipes.
Just grind some nuts in a blender or food processor. Add some olive oil and salt. Press into a pie plate. peel and cut up a few apples. add cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves-whatever you like. put the apples in the pie crust and eat. It takes about 15 min from start to finish and it's incredibly good. You can DO THIS! I am sure of it. You just have to stop looking at your old comfort food and start looking towards your raw recipes for vibrant health and true happiness-not that comforting numbness that comes from bad fats and MSG. Trust me, I know this first hand. I felt that smae wayt aht you did when I first started. I was almost MAD that I "had" to do this. But now I am 36 lbs lighter (79lbs total in the last 5 years) and I wouldn't trade it for all the Doritos or Lays potato Chips and Onion Dip in the world.:p (my 2 favorite foods prior to raw.)

hey jon--not to be off topic, but WHERE are you? are you in ireland (and if so, where)or are u irish living in the US? wasnt clear by your intro post. only asking because if youre anywhere near me (kerry), i might be able to give you advice on where to get/find stuff. also, ive just connected with 2 other raw fooders in my area (dingle) and i think we are going to start potlucks soon. im also going to try to teach a several-evening raw foods prep course near Dingle if youre interested (hoping to make it as affordable as possible, just asking people to give some money towards cost of materials and use of studio kitchen where we will hold it). I doubt youre near me, but I was just told today that there are raw foods meet-up groups in Dublin, Wicklow, Galway, and somewhere else, so if youre in any of those areas you might want to connect with them. if theres potlucks you get to go eat good raw food without having to make all of it :)

Jon,
A Vitamix is a high powered blender. It turns nuts into a smooth paste, which is then used to make frostings, dips, puddings, salad dressings, etc. Without one, I don't know if you could get the nuts smooth enough. Alissa Cohen sells the Vitamix in her store if you want to check it out. I bought mine from an authorized Vitamix dealer on eBay.
Good luck!

Do you put these in a dehydrator after you spread them on the teflex sheets? I haven't tried yet, just trying to get my mind around what's involved. My son loves doritos. would be so great if I could get him to eat these instead.
Also, to what consistency do you mix them together in the food processor? Will a blender work?

Try making them without the chili powder and taco seasoning first. I just make them to where it says stop here to make really great corn chips. I haven't tried the seasonings because the corn chips are sooooo good. I can't quite imagine polluting them with red seasonings. But that's me. I add some nutritional yeast to the mix for the B12
Nothing to get the head around!!
Soak the sunflower seeds for 6 hours
mix with all the rest(i use vitamix - could use fp)
dehyrate on teflex for couple hours. (this amount spreads onto 3 sheets)
flip onto regular sheets and dehydrate for 12 - 16 hours(overnight)
Easy as pie.

to walnutty: which e-bay vendor did you get your Vitamix off of, and how much did you pay? Which model did you get?I'm starting to look around and want to get something good along these lines but still be able to afford something. I've heard that people have gotten good deals on e-bay too.

cara4art,
I got a really good price, but I can't remember which vendor I bought it from. They were an authorized dealer, though, the Vitamix came directly from Vitamix (including the Vitamix warranty).
Let me see if I can find an invoice or something and I will get back to you!
