Has anyone heard of such a thing before, as vegetable juices having mucous? I was reading on another board, and someone mentioned not fasting w/vegetables because of the mucous content. I thought that was really strange.
Although, avocados make me feel rather irritated in the throat area.

Hi there !!!

I thought you may be interested in this post that Cassy (Askcassyfirst) left in another thread that may be helpful. The clarification helped to understand mucous better.

After walking away from my post, I realized that I should have asked if they were mucus forming, vs containing mucus.

I see that mucus would be extremely important in our systems, to prevent so many other things from occuring.

I just think that what that person said about not having vegetables because they formed mucus was a bit extreme. They were fasting on PINEAPPLE juice! That can't be healthy....

Pineapple---quoi !?!?!?!? i couldn't do that

Yeah, the trick as Cassy mentioned--defining the source or explanation as to why one's body is not handling the mucous properly.

I learned 2 basic things intestinal health & healthy bowels---when those things are in place I feel things are going in the right direction.

The human body is so fascinating isn't it? :)

Pineapple is acid, and thus a cleansers as is citrus juice, and would cause the mucous to be release - the excess mucous - but also quickly would cause toxins to be released; veggies are considered healers, and the mucous and toxins would release more slowly therefore seeming to be causing it. Either way, neither is bad or worse for you, just the progression is different.

Veganvixen your killin me woman ! That's horrible--I learned early on that one should never eat IF it can chase backatcha. :D

Sweetlips: VERY helpful message you posted "the progression of mucous ........" I like that !!!! So here's a question, is there one underlying issue that causes the body to flare up where it doesn' t know how to deal with the mucous: like bronchitis, asthma etc????

Good to know--thanks for sharing that info about cancer. I was quick to assume it was personal preference:)

Thinking back on a conversation with someone I work with...she fasted on pineapples and their juice to cleanse her system. I would assume that it was as jackie (sweetlips) mentioned, to release mucus and the junk trapped within it...I think she had said something about trying to rid herself of worms & parasites. (I work for a cleansing company that supports a colon clinic, so conversations like this are the norm:) )

TO answer your question about certain veggies containing mucus...perhaps they were referring to mucilaginous foods, like okra? It is known for being slippery, and providing soft soothing mucus like substance to the bowel. My company puts it in one of our bowel cleanses for just that reason. I wouldn't worry about such types of veggies unless one is allergic. If you are allergic or sensitive to a particular veggie, they can cause your body to create excess mucus. That wouldn't be good.

Hope that helps.
