View Full Version : What´s better? Green smoothie or just vegetable juice?

Hi all!
Here´s the German newbie again with another question: I love my green smoothie, but I just read that it would be better for detox to drink just the juice of the vegetables without the fibres as it can go the cells much faster and without digestion work. So what´s your opinion? Do I really have to buy a juicer?:confused:

On some occasions, if you are doings an intensive cleanse, like the 90 day juice feast, you might want to leave out the fibres. Otherwise not really.

Green smoothies....btw, I have a juicer and I rarely use it. It's nice to have but it would be the last thing on my list to buy....first would be a vitamix, then a cuisinart food processor, good knives and then a dehydrator.

The optimal diet includes both. An all juice fast is usually for a more intense cleanse. Just being on all liquids is suppose to be a fast/cleanse regardless of whether it's juice or smoothies.

I haven't found that to be true. I find having fiber in my diet keeps things moving. :)

To me, the ultimate... raw, fresh, organic fruits and veggies... whole foods which contain ALL the fiber, nutrients, enzymes.

Green smoothies really help me move things along. Love 'em.

But I enjoy fasting on green juices for days at a time as it makes me feel good and it seems it's what my body is needing.

Otherwise I think both are great and it's a matter of listening to your body's needs in the moment.

Juice is absorbe quicker. Green smoothies is a complete food.

If you aren't 100% raw or have been 100% raw, this is ok in my opinion to have juice. But if you are 100% raw and starting your journey on raw, you don't want to detox to quickly. You will detox just by doing raw food and adding raw juice will speed up the process too quickly and can lead to problem. Such if you have a stone on your liver, your body will with time melt it but if you detox too quickly, you can end up needing a surgery to remove that stone if it comes loose.

Green smoothies, you have the fiber to cleanse your guts and it is consider a complete food. I now love to have my vegetable juice but i have been raw for a little while and it feels right to me.

If you eat cook food and have fresh raw juice maybe half hour before your meal, it will be beneficial and neutralize the effect of cook food.

So this is a common sense and it is up to your body and where you are.

I recommend green smoothies more then green juice but most of all go with what is appealing to you, not from what you hear. Meaning, if your body wants juice, then go for it maybe it needs it to do some major repair. At first, i was juicing my green but once i switch to smoothies, the green juice wasn't appealing at all.

I recommend smoothies hands down. However, if you are healing a chronic condition, adding a glass or two of fresh carrot juice is incredible for your system. However, juicing not only delivers vitamins and nutrients to your system like an IV, it also delivers sugars. Be wary if diabetic. The fibre in smoothies is really good for diabetes.

I do both and love both. I tend to gofor juice first thing in the morning- and believe me, it gets everything movin! lol sometimes I have to trot fast=)

Later in the day I have a GS and sometimes more juice.

I have heard juice is best when you feel sick, weak or are new to raw, because it is easier to assimilate the vits/minerals through a weakened digestive track with the fiber stripped out.

I think for long term rawbies, the GS is the ticket to staying stable,from what I hear.

(hehe bin auch nen deutscher, seit einem Jahr weiss ich, was die Ursache und die Lösung (fast) aller Probleme der Menschheit is :D - der Kochtopf, bzw. den Kochtopf zu vergessen)

The less u re body have to do - the faster detox gets! Single fruit, single green juices are(just one group f.e. green leafy veggies or sweet fruits) are very easy to digest. But if u re going 100% raw u maybe dont want it so fast because it can make u have a lay-down all day. I am drinking 5 liters of water(18th 100% day) because i notice that my body need it to flush the toxins out.
At the morning drinking much water makes u having a longer fasting time(sleep + morning).

I am drinking only green juices.(40€ blender + kitchen filter = perfect juice machine!) I am too lazy to formulate why but i think fruit and raw cacao/coconut smooties are better than the same in juice. And green juices are better than green smoothies(i am talking about real green smoothies - not just smoothies that got a green color:p)
Its nice to have to have some small pieces to chew like cacao, old coconut,tiny seeds of fruits + fruits are very easy to digest that why u dont need to juice it. Chewing the smashed rests of greens - i dont like it.

I prefer giant green leafy salads!

EDIT: VERY IMPORTANT: Green juices and juices in generally are a fantastic way to get nutrients if u have to reverse deficiencys. U can absorb a lot of nutrients without much work. For example protein and minerals from green leafy veggies + u save time and energy!

edit2: If u re colon is lazy and tired u need to eat fibers! Fibers make the colon working and it gets stronger. Cooked food got very less fibers that why much people have a bad digestion. So a juice fast or water fast is only a good idea if u re digestion is good - or u use much laxative xD

So my 2nd day 100& raw just started and with your help and advice, I get less clueless about this diet every day! I didn´t know that pure juice makes detox faster what can sometimes be dangerous. Thanks a lot, with your help I´ll stay strong (although I had a nut binge yesterday in the evening -not such a good start of my October 30 day challenge...anyway, I went raw!):)

@mongodelight: Hi, na endlich ein Deutscher in Deutschland! Dachte schon, hier gibts keine rawies... Habe bisher auch keine wirklich gute deutsche Literatur darüber gefunden, geschweige denn Websites. Oder hast du Tips? Wie ich sehe, bist du auch noch nicht lange dabei, seit wann bist du 100%?
