I plan to fast for the month of Oct more or less. I fast every fall after the dc get settled in at school. it helps me to clean out all the over eating I did during the summer. :o Last years fast was 34 days-I was shooting for 40, but I listened to my body and at day 32 my body was ready for FOOD. I tried to ignore it, but the fight became futile-and I decided to honor my body and let her be the guide. So, I am planning this fast for the month of Oct. It may be slightly longer or shorter depending on my needs. Does anyone want to join me in a "Honor They Self" cleansing fast?
Now is not a good time for me -- but I have heard that many people over here purposefully fast at the season's change. It's the first I heard of that going into fall, but apparently it's a really good thing to do!
I hope it goes well for you. :)

Zaphira - I don't know what a "Honor They Self" cleansing fast it ... but if nobody wants to join you in that specific fast you can join us over on http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=44670. We are doing the MC but I am planning on doing 30 days and I started yesterday. As far as I'm concerned it is the journey not necessarily the type of fast you are using, but that's just me.

I'm fasting. I'm shooting for 10 days on water, segue to juice for 10 days then back to water for the final 10 days.
That's the plan...we'll see what happens!
I did a 30 day juice fast the month of October 2006 and it was such a fantastic experience. Maybe October is a good fast month for some of us.

Zaphirah and everyone else -- wishing you well on your fast. Sounds wonderful.
Raine, you know I'm in the middle of the master cleanse and I know now I prefer water fasting. It's just seems easier to me now. I think my body is done with the MC as this is my sixth or seventh one. But I'm going to keep pushing on until I reach 10 days. I may continue on with a water fast and join you if you're still on it. I'm thinking I will probably use coconut water this time. :D
Have a great day all.

This lovely lady is an active participant on the CureZone and Facebook water fasting groups.
You simply MUST see her photos for inspiration on fasting! Better eating and periodic 10 day water fasts. She's currently on a mission of 30 day water.
In her own words: "I started to change my diet and incorporated 10 day fasts to reach 187 pounds from the HW of 265, thats when I decided to do this 30 day fast. I also started walking more, and doing some light cardio."

That's actually her image and she played with it on the computer to make the water since she's water fasting!
There's no set schedule to my fasting. But, interestingly enough, I'll get a vibe to start fasting for about 3 days and the day I decide to do it, is the day that time of the month hits!
So true to form, I decide, "yeah, let's fast now" and today girlie time started.
I find it's easier to do a longer fast 8-10 days this way - no cravings (I have very few to begin with), drop of water weight which is always good to see reflected on the scales.

Cool about the image - I didn't connect the dots about water fasting and being in the water. Duh. hahaa.
Thank you for sharing your water fasting routine. I asked because I've been thinking about water fasting 3 days per month, but I don't want to do something that is too rigid or restrictive. I find that I tend to fast intuitively as well. Just listening. Interesting how the timing goes. I know I needed to fast as I was feeling ill - eating too much fat (lots of lara bars...lol) and it was time to do something about it. Now I feel like I've reset my system 6 days into this but I'm going to complete the 10 day cycle as I think I'm still clearing something from my system.
Good luck on your water fast and thanks for your thoughts.

In Paul Bragg's book on Fasting, his ideal routine is:
Fast on Monday.
Fast the first 3 days of the month.
Fast for 10 days at the start of each change of the seasons.

Fast every Monday and the first 3 days of the month?
Thank you and sorry for all of the questions.
I am slowly getting myself ready to fast for 10 days. I started today, having lemon water and fasting tea all day, see how I feel at dinnertime...if I can continue I will otherwise will have a light , raw dinner. I run, and workout regularly and I am concerned about what kind of effect fasting will have on that...also on how I will feel at work.

BUMMER! I drove all the way to the Coop (a 60 min drive) and my cukes hadn't come in. This stinks. I still have grapefruit or cider for tomorrow, but I'm bummed out! I was hoping to juice cukes for the next few days to start.

I'm not ready for a fast, but going to be the "designated" cheerleader here if you need one. Email me if you wish a Cheer even though I have had I believe a 5-6 days fast way back when. Maybe one day, but right now it's not my timing I wish.
Raine--11/24-Sat., after Thanksgiving going to book Dallas. Email me privately when appropriate. Sure hope we can meet--let me know about Dallas raw places or even anything close to Arlington. Will have to fight my way for transportation an issue of course.

Raine,
OT: staying fit, but still able to fit on a Harley....now I know why I am working out so hard doing Turbo kickboxing classes few hours per week--all for the Raine invitation if I get brave enough to accept. Don't even own a helmet nor ride as a matter of fact!
I'm laughing like crazy about me bitch/hitch a Harley ride. Well, it's a recalling moment right now. It was a first time date with this biker guy who gave me a ride to remember way way when in NY. I suppose it was a teest to see if I was his type of girl. He took me up hills like I never knew excited in NYC. I never saw him again nor did I ever get on any "motorized' bike. So not sure if I would be game for another ride ever again. Let me think that one out more.
Are you into exercise? Maybe we can find a Turbo Kickbox class to jam at. i can get you in. I drive all over and my cautious Arlington daughter thinks I would get lost with all highways going into Dallas. I'm thinking: read signs, miss roads, have fun, can talk so can find out anything I need to with all these in place.
i'll be in touch closer to that time and will send all my info: cell, etc. to you. Need still make reservations, but no problem with these free vouchers gotten as we accepted being bumped off for two free tickets 48 states only. Working out swell here.
Still looking forward to our date. I'm coming this far and it would be pitiful if we missed this blessing. Got any raw places we can check out? Email me anytime. Too bad about your provider services. Can always check on the library to be faithful for free too, but do have to belong I believe.

I'm on Day 2 of water fast and all is well. I'm toying with the idea of striving for 10 days water, then 10 days juice (predominately vegetable) and then close the month with 10 days water. I'm not sure I can do a month water fast....anyway, I'm just going to go with what my body tells me.
And I'm down 2 pounds. I know some people say they gain weight 5-7 pounds of weight back after a fast but I've not run into that situation. I'm carrying a few extra pounds so I'm striving to get this off.
I know the norm is to lose weight for summer -- for me it's winter. All my kewl clothes are winter stuff with lots of fitted leather.
How is everyone else doing?

Best wishes with your water fast Raine. Your plan sounds like a great one. You know after doing the MC one more time, I much prefer water fasting and I think it will be my fast of choice and even mono juice fasting. There is something more spiritual about ingesting water only for me. I feel like I go deeper into the fasting process and for some reason I feel clearer well into day 2 or 3.
I'm on Day 8 of the MC and I'll be breaking it on Sunday. I feel good today.
Have a wonderful day.

Well folks...I could not go past day two. But having never done a fast before...that was okay for me and my body. I started getting a headache and said, screw this crap! I lived over 52 years with migraines. Why self-induce.
It just proves to ME that fasting is not good. Maybe a day here and there, but for ME I cannot do any prolonged time periods.
I like eating. I missed my greens (yep, even for that short of a period). As soon as food entered my body - my headache was gone...

i'm completing my 14-day water fast tomorrow which is my 2nd successful one. if anyone is planning on water fasting, i'll check in to cheer ya on & let you know what you're going through is typical or odd. :D
I'm in. I'd like to commit to the month of October. It's such a time of high energy and crazy feelings of excitement and exhileration for me that it feels natural to cleanse right now. I started my fast last night, on Orange Juice - which I will be consuming the most of likely, considering I have three full cases of organic oranges. I may throw in some water only days depending on how I feel.
Already upon making this decision, I feel more "okay," more stabilized, free and relaxed.
So I'm not sure how much I'll be posting; as I'm distancing myself from the internet, but I wanted to state my intention.

I started the last day of September. it started as a water fast, but now I'm doing at least 3 days dry fast, after which I'm going back to water. Maybe. I think I almost prefer dry fasting over water, because I don't get head or stomach aches, but at the same time, I miss water. :p but either way, I'm fasting until november 1st.

Veganforlife -
Actually, everything you were experiencing was normal. A person can eat raw or vegan and still not completely detox. Only a fast will allow the body to delve deep into itself to rid the toxins.
It is very normal, especially if you've not fasted before, to experience a headache, and even some odd aches and pains where you might have had a previous injury, mucus draining and for some, they feel like they are coming down with a cold/flu.
By pressing on and telling yourself, "This is toxic material my body needs to release," you get through it.
The body spends about 1/3 of it's daily energy on digestion so if it doesn't have to digest food, all that lovely energy is used to clean itself.
You can do as much detox in 10 days on water as you can in 30 days on juice. The first few days are always the hardest.
The more often you fast, the easier it gets. For me, I experience wonderful energy levels, great peace and calmness. Once you start experiencing that, you look forward to those times when your body signals it's ready to fast again.

Hey peoples, hows it going?
May I join in? I am doing a "whatever fast" starting today. What I mean by whatever is if I want juice, then juice, if I want mc lemonaid, then I'll have that etc...
Anyways I guess a little info on me. I have fasted before but no longer than 6 days. Right now I feel I am being called to fast because there is this little voice in my had that says it'll make a difference in my pain levels. Right now I have a lot of chronic pain, and since the weather changed it got worse, to the point of the idea of eating making me feel sick. So this feels natural, lol.
Anyways, I'll report back and let ya'll know how the rest of the day went. Have a good one.

I kicked the fast off yesterday (finally). I'm down 3.2 pounds. I had 2 juices yesterday (carrot, celery, garlic clove) for a total of 198 calories. I also drank a cup of Peach Detox Tea. It's made by Yogi Teas and very tasty and aromatic.
I'm committed to once and for all getting the last of the weight off because there is a lot of leather in my closet calling my name and colder temps are just ahead.

I'm on day 7 of my water fast... down to 148.4 pounds. Started at 159.8 so this pleases me greatly. I started this water fast to change up my fast and to celebrate the 1/2 mark of my 20 week fasting journey but now I'm in it for the weight release. Plain and simple. I plateaued for what seemed forever on my juice fast and this is nice... seeing the scale change again. :)
Planning on doing 30 days but taking it day by day. I feel pretty much the same as I did juice fasting... only I'm much more tired in the evening. Other than that... it's all good.
I'm doing yoga for over and hour twice a week (and shorter times at home by myself) and rebounding daily for an hour - all while water fasting. Who knew it could be this easy for me... it was pure hell last time I attempted it, but that 6 months ago and since then I've been fasting almost solid (fast, eat one week... fast again... eat one week... fast again kinda thing this year) - so obviously my body is ready for a water fast now. I'm thrilled.

I found my first water fast to be the hardest. The second one was a cinch in comparison.
Keep at it with the weight loss -- I dropped 19 pounds in 10 days on my 2nd water fast....and every single ounce of it stayed off! Of course, I stayed committed to eating right and doing a lot of juicing.

I am SO switching to water tomorrow! I'm in this for detox, and I was feeling kinda clogged chakraly speaking, and now, that I have release 7 lbs I'm doing it more and more for the FINAL push in my weightloss journey. (I think I said that last year too, but I went back to SAD when my ds was in the hospital for 8 days and never quite regained my balance and then slowly slipped off over the summer.) I'm only 9 lbs away from my highschool weight. It's really important to get there, even if it's only for a fleeting moment! LOL!

Lauri, I stopped taking MSM before my water fast and my body hasn't asked for it yet. IF it does... I will. But I have no idea if I'm following a traditional water fasting protocol cause I am having a tsp of honey (somedays) and young coconuts if I want to. Also I add a wedge of lime/lemon/orange or grapefruit to warm water in the morning when I'm at the coffee shop on the beach with my hubby. Warms me up nicely. Raine would know more about it than me (traditional water fasting that is).
Raine, I've released 12 pounds I think so far... today is Day 7. I can really see the difference these twelve pounds have made. I'm really looking forward to continuing on water and releasing all my excess weight... yippppeeee great quick way to get those last few pounds gone gone gone.
And yup, I'll be juicing for another 5 or 6 weeks after I'm done my water fast and then raw foods and mostly juice (as I'm trying to find info on being a juicitarian but can't find any...) so keeping it off should not be a problem for me.
Besides when you are nice and thin... you notice 2 pounds... and so you can tweak your intake appropriately (reduce nuts or whatever...)
later gators,
Aleesha
