We're coming up on October!
If you're ready to commit to a full month of raw eatin' during October, make your declaration known right here!
Then once October arrives, a brand new 30-Day Challenge will commence!
Please be sure to read the rules for the challenge if you are new to the forum and/or the 30-day raw challenge. Just a quick reminder, the purpose and main goal is to eat ALL RAW for 30 days. Sometimes you may slip, sometimes you may consciously decide to incorporate a little bit of cooked food...all your personal choice BUT...we do NOT discuss cooked food, even slip ups here in the challenge threads. That is best for your journal/blog if you have one.

Though I usually only end up posting in the beginning of the monthly challenges (wrong wrong, I know, I keep trying to do better too!!!) I am still raw!! 4 months!! weee...
Keeping the challenge in the back of my head helps, but I should stop stinking at posting. I keep saying im going to, I don't know what happens!

I'm in. Goal: stop "bargaining" with myself about certain transition foods. Make a definitive list of what's going in my body and stop flirting with the other stuff. No more "bite here, bite there" mentality.

Count me in! I have never made it beyond 7 days but I'm so tired of the mediocre health and energy I've been feeling. So 30 days at 100% is just the right solution.
Goals:
eat 100% for the month of October
begin exercising daily for at least 15 mins.
Focus on positives

Hello Everyone!
I'm new to posting here, but see my intro over in Who Are You. I've been lurking on these boards since their beginning and "dabbling" in raw since about 1999.
Looking forward to 30 whole days of wonderful raw foods!

Hey All!
I am in for October and have felt fantastic the last few weeks in September eating raw. I just wish I could shake my coffee habit, (even black is addicting), but otherwise I am 99% raw and noticed immediately my skin and mind have rewarded me.
Good luck in October!

Ok, I have been flirting with a raw diet for quite a while. I continue to come back to this way of eating. I am accepting the challenge of being raw for the next 30 days 24/7. I will check in daily and keep everyone posted with my progess. Look forward to getting to know everyone.
I'm in and will last longer than 3 mos. this time. :)
Goals:
A. Eat what I want as long as it's raw until I transition and detox from cooked (im not talking months here).
B. Check in on the board once a day.
C. Be steadfast.
D. Be prepared in any situation by having raw foods and uncooking so I will not "slip up".
E. Have fun!
F. Be positive and optimistic!

Im ready - I am glad this support system is here as I know I will need it!! Im ready to stop hiding behind food and come out of this food shell....:)
I've been testing many raw food recipes and found 4 that I like. Found that reading raw books keeps me focused. Just ordered 12 Steps to Raw Food, think that will help as well as reading Alicia's web site each day. Goals are to plan ahead what I am going to eat, walk 4 miles 4 days a week. Did this challenge 1 year ago today and was 100% raw for 8 weeks and never felt better, and then came Thanksgiving...... I have a plan this time. Carolyn Otis

Welcome to the October 100% raw food challenge!
If you are not familiar with how these work, you basically just document your (RAW) intake each day (a new thread will be created by me each day), how you're feeling, etc and give and get support.
Per the rules (sticky posting) you are not to post your cooked food slip-ups here in the challenge threads - those are better suited to your journal and if you're really having a time of it and need some help with cooked food issues, please post about in the main Raw and Living Food Discussion forum area...but please, not here...thanks!
So, have fun and have a wonderful day!

I began my first raw challenge a couple of months ago!, I believe the first one was July? I dont even remember. I have been 100% raw since then! I began every challenge since and I usually end up not posting. TISK TISK. I said I was going to try harder last month but I failed and ultimately things were harder for me!, so here I am again, I am going to do this.
My goal for this month, is to try and make RAW easier, I have a tendency to not be prepared. I need to keep food for myself with me, I make things very hard for myself daily because I am still struggling with temptations. I never give in to them, but if I only had a larabar (i know not the 100% best choice) or something!!! to grab it would be a lot easier!
Today is an exciting day for me! I am going to the store to get some nuts and seeds as well as some raw bars. I am also going apple picking!!!!
THE MOST EXCITING - I am waiting for a call from my best friend who is pregnant and going to be induced this morning!!! I will be there with her one step of the way, she is going to call me once she starts progressing and OFF TO THE HOSPITAL I GO!, So I Need to be prepared for that!
B - banana, Nectarine, Larabar
L- some apples, maybe a nice salad
D- hopefully ill be at the hospital, so I am going to pack myself snack foods to pick on!!

Hello people,
Idk yet what I'm going to eat. Probably will have spinach, broccoli salad and the tomatoes & cucumbers I have already. Am going shopping to get more food I need.
I feel better this morning even after going to sleep really "late" this morning. I actually feel like going for a walk with my dog this morning! Omg. I do HOPE this is something that will STAY, the feeling of wanting to go walking and being in a good mood.
Well, hope everyone has a great day raw. I'm going for a walk and then to the store to get my food. Or, should I get my food first then go on a walk? Maybe so since I'm so hungry!
Emma-Liza My classes are ok. I've got a tutor now, haven't started with them yet but hopefully I will make some progress towards good grades this semester!!

Happy October everyone!
I am going to keep focused and raw in October. Last month it was so helpful trying and using more heavy meal recipes. I have quite a few Alissa recipes I love. They really help me feel satisfied at dinner.
Like Srsarri, I really want to focus on being prepared and having raw food available. I will be taking two trips this month and being armed with travel ready raw food is a must.
Have fun eating and playing with your raw food!!
Hi all!
Wow, what a day one it has been and it's only 12:35 pm where I am. Thus far today I've had a bit of green smoothie (getting tired of them and it's only day 3..gotta switch up the ingredients) of collards, kale, green apple, pineaple and banana, sunflower seeds (fun to eat when bored at work), cantaloupe smoothie (oh so milky), large salad with avocado and a bunch of other stuff. Later I have an almond milk carob and mint smoothie planned (oh so deeeelish) and I find when I drink that in the evenings I don't want much else to eat.
It's great reading everybody's post. Ray, that's my goal as well, stay focused and be prepared! We can do this!
I love your name ONE BITE!
Have a GREAT day all! :D

Wow, I'm excited!
Breakfast will be a peaches'n'kream green smoothie, lunch will be a wrap of some sort, and dinner will be another smoothie or a salad, not sure yet. I'm dehydrating some buckwheat for cereals and bars to have on the go! Snacks today will be celery stix with almond butter. Which also reminds me: I am making a new batch of almond butter today :)
I'm feeling good today :) Although it's almost 11am and I haven't eaten yet. I plan on juicing some carrots when I get back from the massage therapist. I'm taking Univera Regenefree for my back injury as well. I definitely feel an improvement with the dual effects of the Univera and the Raw! I feel the Raw is the foundation for my healing.

This is my first challenge and I am looking forward to it!
B-smoothie with frozen banana, frozen strawberries, coconut milk, water, maca, hempseeds and coconut butter.

lunch-will be left over veggie "kabobs" from last night. Zucchini, squash, mushrooms, orange and red peppers and onions.
D-haven't decided what to have yet.
Didn't run this morning as planned as my left hip was sore. Hopefully I will feel good enough to run tomorrow!

Today.....spouted buckwheat, banana milk, cinnamon, apple for breakfast....lunch: Huge GS with spinach, coco butter, water, apple, banana....getting ready to make some avo/choco pudding for snack, and dinner will be a huge green and veggie salad with Alissa's honey mustard dressing.....I also plan to make some of the Bomb cheese for dipping veggies.....Make a great Raw day! Count me in on the 30 day raw challenege - I am excited :)
Hope the rest of the month goes as well as today. Started off with a 4 mile walk with a friend who is training for a half marathon. Hoping to get the 4 miles done in 1 hour instead of the extra 15 minutes; then we'll add another mile. Breakfast was ceral made in the dehydrator; millet, buckwheat, hazelnut, dates, honey and cinnamon. Lunch was a fruit smoothie and dinner was an apple dipped in raw peanut butter. Really appreciate all the encouragement this website offers! Carolyn

Hey there everyone! This is my first 30 day Raw Challenge. I started eating 100% raw 3 days ago, and already feel awesome!
Today for breakfast I had a smoothie consisting of raw cacao powder, soaked raw almonds, coconut milk, pineapple, and a banana.
I worked the orientation at my school today for the incoming students, so my only options were fresh (organic!) fruit for lunch (bananas and apples).
Dinner will be a green smoothie of sorts...had "raw" chocolate milk last night for the first time (carrots, spinach, and romaine lettuce all juiced...yummy!) Could be on the menu tonight!
I have to tell you...I've only been eating raw for a few days, but my energy level has skyrocketed! It's like I can't do enough things in one day...just want to keep going! Already lost 10lbs. and I feel awesome. People were commenting on it today (even though its only been a few days since I had last seen them!). Raw is the way to go!
Best of luck to everyone!

Wonderful day of raw foods!
Had a big blueberry, banana, spinach & almond smoothie for breakfast.
Handful of radishes and 4 ribs of celery mid-morning.
Lunch was a mini-bundt version of the Grezzo Chocolate cake :D
Snacked on raw trail mix [pistachios, walnuts, raisins, cranberries] all late afternoon.
Having some more radishes and caulifower now and maybe a green smoothie.
Hope everyone had a wonderful day!

Too busy at work to post much today!
What I had:
B--strawberry/banana smoothie that would have been good except I put seeds in and my little work blender couldn't deal. Only drank about 1/2.
L--usual salad bar salad--spinach, leaf lettuce, tomato, onion, carrots, broccoli, raisins, sunflower seeds
S--banana and pecans
D--really tasty salad of leaf lettuce, grape tomatoes, and dehydrated, crumbled cheeze. Dressing was an avocado mayo made of avo, olive oil, and lemon juice.
I've been sneezing all day; hope it's not a cold coming on!:(

Today's food choices were dictated by necessity. Simplicity and speed were the order of the day. I grabbed things that were ready to eat, already washed, soaked, or marinated. This with the third day for the caponata. It was good the first day, but it's gets even better after marinating for a day or two.
Breakfast: fuji apple
Lunch: Green Smoothie - rainbow chard, 1 peach, 1 T. chia seeds, cup of water, greens powder
Dinner: caponata on Lydia's Italian crackers and Sunflower bread, Salad of red bibb lettuce and soaked dulse, dressed with the juice of 1/2 an orange and a heaping spoonful of coconut oil, sea salt and pepper.
Dessert: 2" square of cacao cherry/almond bar, 4 dried figs.

Day one was kind of hard for me especially in the evening hours when I went home, but I rode through my cravings for a slice of veggie pizza. Anyway my food intake for the day is as follows:
Morning-- A green smoothie, 4 leafs of Kale, one banana, 4 strawberries with an almond milk base.
Lunch-- Organic Grapes, 3 slices of pineapple and 4 slices of water melon.
Dinner-- avocado soup (I found a recipe online can't seem to remember the ingredients).
Snack-- Almonds

Yesterday I was off to a great start, and today more of the same.
I feel irritated today though, as if I have no patients at all. I dont like that feeling.
I made the most amazing dinner last night with cauliflower cous cous and a zuchinni hummus. I also had some of the pumpkin seed and flax crackers I made in the dehydrator.
Today:
Brekkie - Strawberry smoothie
lunch - mock chicken noodle soup using the daikons I have. it looks like an interesting recipie so I am excited to try it.
supper - I am thinking proably the same as last night. I still have some cauliflower cous cous and hummus to use up.
I am doing this!! I am totally doing this!
I've just eaten two bowls of the millet/buckwheat/date cereal with almond milk. Lunch will be a green smoothie with wheatgrass added. I'm having dinner out with my brother and sister tonight so it will be a dinner salad. Just want to add that it is so great to get out of bed and want to be up rather than looking longingly at the bed wanting more sleep. Carolyn

4 months (ish) and 1 day down! these past couple of months I went from nuts and seeds making me EXTREMELY ill (IBS, Diverticulitis issues) to not being able to tolerate them in small amounts! Its all that needed to happen to make me want to keep doing this.
I had a very Nut fill day yesterday! too many homemade larabars. Digestion is fine but I am extremely sluggish! I wont make that a habit!
Breakfast - Apple and Nectarine
Lunch - Most likely a salad of some sort
Dinner - UHT OH. I went into the refrigerator this morning and realized all I have is some leaks and 1 tomato! I need to go shopping before I even think about going home or else I will have a REALLY frustrating night!
My best friends baby was born yesterday!! My god son! perfectly healthy! but has 6 fingers on each hand! shocking! but he is SOOOOOO cute. they will be talking to a plastic surgeon today. im SOOOOOOO thrilled! i love babies!

Looks like everyone is off to a great start!
I woke up wide awake before my alarm (my two dogs wanted to go for their walk). I was gassy yesterday, but didn't feel too bad. (working to heal IBS and GERD) That business is much better this morning.
I started the morning with a banana, strawberry, orange juice smoothie. After walking I had applesauce (Alissa's recipe). I used three apples and ate it all. Yum!
I have been sprouting buckwheats and wheat berries to make Alissa's pizza and Honey Cinnamon toaster tarts. I haven't done much sprouting in the past so I am excited to see how these both turn out. I have found that having heavier foods in the evening really help me stay raw
I'll be ready for a green salad for lunch...maybe with some of the leftover walnut taco meat.
Have a wonderful raw food day!

B-smoothie (after jog/walk) frozen banana, frozen berries, almond milk, some water, hemp seeds, maca, pysillium, and coconut butter.

Have a busy day going on....
B--oatmeal (soaked, chopped oat groats)/almond milk/honey/cinnamon/little sea salt
L--salad bar
S--brought smoothie ingredients: banana, strawberry, more almond milk, green powder (Alissa's store, can't remember the brand name)
D--mushroom burger, with cheeze slice, Bubbie's pickle, onion, tomato in some kind of green wrap, collards or green cabbage. Maybe a side of sweet bok choy slaw if I have the energy to make it.
I am only posting now..... but so far I have been 100 % this month and my goal is to stay 100% raw all month! i am totally new but have been a clean eater for ahwile so its not as huge a transition as it would have been if I had been 100% SAD.
Goals:
Stay 100% all month
Learn new recipes and foods I can eat on the go
Check in here everyday
Excercise every day

Going with the flow. Got my weekly box of CSA produce last night. Will use some of it today. So far, 2 apples for breakfast. Lunch was a quart of green smoothie made with thompson grapes, ripe bartlett pear, curly lettuce leaves, spinach, cilantro, and soaked chia seeds. Used celery and cucumber juice instead of water. Both diuretics. I'll have to stay close to the bathroom for a few hours.

Wow - I stayed up too late and woke up at noon O__O It's 430 now and I feel gross!! However, last night I made a new recipe, raw health bars, and had that for brekkie with some almond milk. Lunch will be green smoothie when the SO gets home, and making something for the SO, and dinner will be a wrap of sorts ^__^ These green lettuce leaves do well for wrapping!

Whew! I've just got to report that if you are really hungry, you need to soak, sprout, and consume some grains! I have just eaten a mushroom burger, some slaw, and approx 1/4 c soaked, sprouted quinoa. I'm stuffed. I had to share the last bites with the dogs. This happened also before when I soaked some barley. So if you're hungry, eat those raw grains!

Feeling a little drainy and hungry.
I am realizing though that I havent felt hungry in a long time.
Its neat to feel.
I feel like I am eating constantly, I am not sure why. AND I have lost 5lbs this week!
Fridays are my weigh in day.
I am going strong and I feel like this is a lifetime thing...I feel like this is something that has to happen.
My plan for today.
Brekkie - Apples and Raw Granola I got at the Bigcarrot.
Lunch - more daikon soup I made yesterday
snacks - crackers and dip I made at the start of the week
Dinnner - I am not sure. Tonight is my date night with my hubby and I am not sure what to do. Thoughts?
I also want to start going for my jogs/walks again...if this energy keeps up, maybe I will.

Breakfast -- Fruit Smoothie (frozen banana, one slice of frozen cantaloupe, a few strawberries, 2 slices of pineapple, and an almond milk base, with a sprinkle of coconut shavings).
Lunch- Brought a collard greens wrap to work, but didn't eat it..... the collard greens were a bit bitter for my taste buds. Instead I snack on some nuts and drank lots of water.
Snack-- More Nuts
Dinner- Fruit Salad drizzled in honey and a dip of almond butter for my strawberries.
Hi all, sounds great gs!
Wow, today I feel so so, mmm, kinda ...off I guess, and I don't mean off like neurotic off, lol. (Besides that was yesterday, LOL.) Anyway, I'm having a bit of difficulty I will work through. I'm going to the market today to change things up. ..good old Pimp Foods.
It's so funny how you tell people you eat raw and they still offer you cooked food items and beverages. I guess they just don't understand what it means esp. where salad dressings are concerned.
Have a great day all! My posts will be more upbeat next time hopefully. :)

Had a SUPER stressful day at work yesterday and no time to post.
Grazed all day on raw veggies and fruits with about 1/2 c of almonds. Ate pineapple which almost IMMEDIATELY filled my mouth full of little "you have too much acidity in your body" ulcers! ack. Does anyone else get these?
I have always had to be super careful of how much pineapple, kiwi & strawberry that I eat. More than a small amount and I'm done for!
Off work today and day started great with a smoothie of spinach, cherries, banana, apple, almonds, squirt of agave and teaspoon of raw cacao :)
I'll graze on fresh veggies until dinner time and have already prepared jalapeno burgers, butternut squash spanish rice and wilted spinach with plum tomatoes. Still have a mini Bundt cake Grezzo Chocolate cake that we can have for dessert, too!
Have a great day everyone!!!

Happy Friday Challengers! Off to a good start today. No plan yet. It's 11:00am here. Spent the last 3 hours cleaning and purging a closet. Ate a few grapes. Making almond milk, may do something with that later. Not hungry now. I'm just sitting here for a few minutes drinking an infusion of echinacea, pau d'arco, and nettles while I watch a group of starlings eating rainsoaked seeds off the deck. Maybe I'll soak some sunflower seeds and use them in a pate recipe for dinner. Later...

Today was a really good day. I made Alissa's Fett Alfredo for lunch and it is good. If you ever have cravings or feel really hungry make this!
And I went out to dinner with friends and ate raw. It helped that I had a lunch that was on the heavy side, but it gave me a ton of confidence that I don't have to become a social outcast! :D

Today was pretty good. It was my first day back at work since I made the switch. I was craving cooked food really bad considering I work at an amazing health food cafe. I wanted brown rice so bad! But I want this too bad to crack now.
For breakfast I only ate a tomato. I was in a hurry!
Lunch: Tomatos, almonds and a juice of kale, cucumber and tomato
Dinner: lettuce wrap with sprouts, jicama, red bell peppers, olives, tomato and other veggies I can't think of! Also had a whole avocado and some melon.
So far so good other than the cravings!

I love raw food! It is such a gift from our earth that all natural food would be so abundant & sustaining! How can this be so misunderstood by other non-raw people? It is such a natural & amazing filling way of eating. I am now on day 12 of 100%raw & I feel like a different person from when I ate SAD. I got my dehydrator yesterday (yippee this one works! I got one last wk & it was shorting out my outlets). I made the "easy crust" pizza by alissa using pesto instead of marinara (I do not like the marinara at all) & omitted nut cheese (haven't developed a taste for those yet either), then threw some red onions, red & green peppers, tomato & mushroom on top & it was really good. So filling! I also made sweet potato chips- I was expecting them to come out crispy, but they are a little chewy, I even kept them in for longer & they are staying softish- but I guess that makes sense w/ using low heat- oh well they still taste good.
So, I just wanted to check in w/ the 30 day board. Hope everyone is having the best day! I am! I am heading off to bear brook state park after this w/ my dogs! I love Fall! It is so gorgeous!

i am a few days late, but i want to be in the challenge as well :)
my goal is to eat high raw and to exercise
For the past two days I have been gone for the entire day but still was able to stay raw. While my mom and sister ate candy and crackers, I had cut up fruit, then ate at a resturant where I could have the salad bar. Today I had a green smoothie, just finished a fruit smoothie and have carrot pecan burgers in the dehydrator for dinner tonight with curry sauce and a salad. I'm beginning to feel the energy one gets on this diet. I'll need it, working out in the yard today planting some preannuals (sp?) I found really cheap. Carolyn

Had a nice walk with my dogs. I was very tired by the end of yesterday again, but had a good day over all . I am low on veggies and fruit, so will get to the store today. This morning I am going to have raw banana ice cream since I have everything for that. Love this way of eating.
Have a great day.

Had 2 apples for brunch.
Went to a wedding. Ate a plate of grapes, pineapple, strawberries, and melon from the appetizer table. A little later was a buffet dinner. Piled my plate high with fancy salad greens and sprinkled it with plain balsamic and oil. Drank lots of lemon water.
On the way home ate half a larabar. (Not very good.)
Midnight snack: handful of sprouted almonds, and another of raw pistachios.

I am joining a bit late, since I just found this site. However, starting tomorrow I am going all raw. I don't eat meat, and I don't cook, and basically I have gone raw for awhile. However, there are some weekly social situations that will be a bit challenging. However, I can do this!
Quick question- my trainer is worried about calorie consumption, but I haven't heard anyone talk about calories. What is your feeling on this?
Thanks for your help! I'm looking forward to having the support of this forum.

Emma-Liza - Congratulations on the scale moving!!
3 weeks ago I began an all raw vegan diet. However when i went to Chicago on business last week, i ate a few other things (for 4 days)...no stress. BUT i was able to experience the impact of cooked food on my body after not having any for 2 weeks (like achy feet, upset stomach, etc. - and this was from cooked veggies and not fried food!). But that's another story!
Today i had a wonderful meal of collard-kale salad and cucumber-collard soup. Ummm. I also finished my lunch for tomorrow! On a roll. I prepared a menu yesterday for the week. I work 10-12 hours per day so it is important to plan for the week and prepare for each day in its entirety...including packing my meal(s) up in my multitude of containers that i can often be seen carrying (in, of course, my designer grocery bag!!!). :)
I feel great now, but anticipate that there will be some aches once my cleansing begins anew. Nothing beats the feeling of know that in my heart i am doing the right thing by my health!
Glad to see everyone is moving foward!!! Be well!

Amazing. Totally amazing. Yesterday, at work, a neighbor came in and we discovered we have something in common - being raw! I went over to her place today and she leant me some books and some recipies for some delicious recipies. I feel like I can learn so much from her. You should see her storage - its amazing. I just feel like for now, while I'm trying to shed a bit of weight, I should stay away. We'll see how it goes.
Wanna hear something nuts? I started menstrating yesterday and it was better than when I was on birth control. No cramps. No fatigue. I felt so great. Normally, I have to drug myself to get throught the day. Went all natural with no ill effects. And I swear it's been lighter than normal. This is truely the way we were meant to feel.
I have a friend whos being critical, but he'll just have to see!
Going strong,
Trish
Thanks for the well wishing, Emma-Liza and Shawn! And congrats on the weight release Emma; I am just now starting to lose the extra I put on by cutting down to very little avocado, nuts and dates etc. My body just does not let that food go so at least for now I will not be indulging in it. Maybe at some point in the future when my body has adjusted to food with fat in it I will try again (I used to do a fat reduced diet before that which may have thrown my metabolism out of whack).
Texas-girl, what are you putting in your smoothies?
Congrats to Dogma and everyone else for staying raw today:)

Wow I love reading everyones' stories!
Breakfast was a lovely green smoothie, lunch was a pina colada (just coconut and pineapple blended), with some YUMMY carob mousse parfait, and dinner was two ricepaper wraps with a delicious almond butter dressing inside. I just had "dessert" which was just a single date O_O My tastes are becoming a lot simpler.

Hi All!
I hope October is working well for everyone. I was pleasantly suprised to find that I am six pounds down from the last time I checked. Sweet. I think I have actually lost more fat but since I have been into kickboxing and weights, I most likely have gained some muscle weight.
I got complimented Saturday night in a bar on how shiny and softlooking my hair was. And it was a from a woman! Of course then I told her about my raw way of living and she looked at me crosseyed. Anyway, I was pretty excited!!
Have a great day.

day 6 and things are still going well. one of my flat mates was outside the city on saturday and went grape picking. he brought back a HUGE bag of fresh delicious grapes--with seeds! haha he said i could help myself--since he knows i eat a lot of fruit...he was disappointed they had seeds as i just chuckled quietly to myself--yay, they are not hybrids! and, they are SO good!!
i've been eating lots of fruit and salads with sprouts. i did eat some nuts yesterday--maybe a few too many, but all is well here :)

Last night I prepared my meals for the week. My roommate must have thought that I was nuts, as I proportioned everything and put it in Zip-Lock baggies for the week. Storage containers would be more environmentally friendly, but that would require doing the dishes- LOL
Breakfast was two plums and a banana. This is more than I normally eat, but my stomach is growling. Lunch will be edamame soaked in Braggs aminos and a couple of pieces of pineapple and peaches. The hard time will be class tonight. When I go at 4:30 p.m. it is too early to eat at dinner, and class doesn't end until 10 p.m. Hopefully the baby carrots will be a satisfying snack.
Last night I watched a couple of videos on You Tube, and one was by a lady who took a 100 day challenge and had a nice and humorous approach to the stresses that come with this lifestyle. So, that inspired me. I have given up my Satrbucks chai tea but, out of fear of the caffeine withdrawal, haven't given up my sweet tea yet. However, I hope to wean myself off of it by the end of the month.
I am noticing an increase in flatulence. Is this just me?

veganspirit--I love your avatar! It looks so much like my first dog, which I got for my 8th birthday. His name was Sam. And hey, a compliment's a compliment, especially because women notice certain aspects of other women more than men.
denise--what a cool flatmate, to bring grapes to share. I read on your blog how good you're feeling right now. That's just wonderful!
juliesvoyage--I wish I could preportion my food. I just know from experience that no matter how I plan ahead, it's at risk of getting tossed if I'm not in the mood for it. If you use freezer-weight ziplocs, you can turn them inside out, wash, and reuse several times. I use my utensil holder as a dryer, put a bag over a spoon or a spatula...I can dry several at a time!
Per the gas, I've had loads less on raw! :) I think when I do get it, it's from mixing nuts and dried fruit. Just a theory of mine, and may be no relation to what y'all are experiencing....
I made Rawvolution Onion Bread yesterday. I tweaked it to be less oily and less salty. I spread it pretty thinly and about 1/3 of it was ready to pull by this morning (14hrs @ 100 degrees). I ate a little cheese sandwich for breakfast with the onion bread and dehydrated "the bomb" cheese slice. :)
I also brought some oatmeal with almond milk and blueberries for second breakfast. Planning on a salad bar lunch and more onion bread and apple for snack.

post workout fruit smoothie

I've been 100% raw for over two months now and find it to be the easiest way of living, period. Of course, I live by myself and have nobody else to worry about. I'm sure that makes a big difference. It would certainly be much harder, if I had a family who did not want to be raw along with me. I have spent a lot of my time lately pickling, freezing, and dehydrating this summer's bounty. I'm having so much fun with my food. My stove is covered with a large piece of butcher block, which makes a great work space. I love my green smoothies for breakfast, am still eating a lot of zucchini "pasta" with marinara sauce, and eat green salads one head at a time. I find that I enjoy the simpler foods more than complicated stuff, and heaven is sitting down with an avocado and a spoon. I feel great, my clothes are getting looser all the time, and I don't have aches and pains. I visited my former colleagues in San Jose last week, whom I hadn't seen in over 2 years. They couldn't believe the change in me, said I look healthier than they had ever seen me, slimmer too, and claimed that I "glow". So, it's really true. RAW ROCKS!

What's kombucha tea?
saram
10-06-2008, 06:39 PM
kombucha is a fermented beverage, full of all kinds of probiotic strains. I use green tea, sunbrewed, then sweeten it with evaporated organic sugar. Then, I wait... the "mushroom" that forms on the top of the jar is a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast that then metabolizes the sugar in the tea, cultures it... It's pretty wild stuff...I've heard it talking in the middle of the night...:)

Hi all!
Trinut001 - I have been having the same issue for the past 3 weeks (im actually about 4 months into my 100% raw journey). It is weird! I HATE IT. I felt drunk all day yesterday, I was driving along and I kept finding myself not paying attention to the road!
Today was loaded with fruit! I also made a great guacamole with sun dried tomatos! MMmMMm YUMMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I appreciate visiting this site every day as it helps me to get through the moments of struggle. Congrats to all on day 6!
I had juice that was ughhhh! but I got through it and will not put so many collards in a blender again!!! Lunch consisted of collard rolls with some sunflower seed pate and then delicious kale salad.
and for dinner...oh i am still licking my lips (and the food processor!)...i had spaghetti made of zucchini (noodles) and the sauce was a wonderful tasting marinara sauce from Cornbleet's book...just with a little extra zest!
Thanks to all for sharing your experiences! I can't tell you how much support they provide!
Have a great evening!!!

I did so well for 95% of the day. I even met a friend from class, who ended up eating, and instead of explaining the whole raw food to her during our limited time, I just claimed I was too busy to eat and stuck to the raw foods that I had brought to class with me. My sister asked about my eating raw, and the only difference is that I have replaced my snack of pretzels and lunch off egg salad on crackers with more fruits and vegetables.
I am a night eater, and even if I take naps during the day find myself wanting a snack. So, hopefully I'll do better tonight, since no food is out. My bag is packed and ready for tomorrow, and this is my 15 hour day of classes and work. So, it will be a test to see if I can stay raw for Day 2.
Good night!

I've been raw every day so far. Today I ate sunflower seeds a bowl of them. They are addicting.
I'm kind of getting into a monotonous eating pattern here lately eating the same stuff over and over. I need to add some variety, but I'm so lazy.
I'll post back later with what I eat later. :) The weather is so nice here lately past few days. I've been sitting outside getting my sunshine.

I ate a banana and a plum for breakfast and some edamame for lunch. Why is it that I am craving sweets? I brought cookies to the office and had a few crumbles and felt bad afterward. Raw cookie dough, I am sure, does not count as eating raw ;)
Today is my day of class and work for 14 hours, so it will be a long day. This is the test of how much energy this new way of eating will help me to have.
I did sleep all through the night, which has not happened in over a year. I was up late, but that wasn't all of it, as I really think eating raw helped. This is a major improvement, since I never sleep. So hopefully this will be a positive affect of this. :)

So far today I've managed to keep my fingers out of the Fig & Date Squares. Went outside and picked the last of the blackberries that hang over the fence from my neighbors yard. Blended about 2 cups in a cup of almond milk. Strained it and drank every drop. Very satisfying.
At the moment it's a beautiful day. Going to take advantage of that and walk the dog.
So far today I have had:
B-GS
L-sprouts with marinara sauce
S-asian pear and a coconut
D-?
I will be working all night so won't get to eat too much but will most likely do a huge salad.
Hope you all have a wonderful, raw day!

knitster--blackberries are one of my favorite fruits. that milk sounds sooo good.
I had a horrible hard day at work. Came home and made tomato soup from a recipe I have used and loved, but it turned out so awful, I couldn't save it. I kept adding stuff and blending and finally just poured it out in the sink. It looked really nasty and orange.
I scrounged around and found the last bit of a head of butter lettuce and put some oil and lemon on it and made two onion bread and eggless salad sandwiches. This was so delicious! Finally, something happy about my day!
Day's food
B--onion bread and cheese sandwich, honeycrisp apple
L--small spinach salad with tomato, onion, mushroom, carrot, and balsamic/olive oil dressing
S--banana, 8-10 whole pecans
D--sandwich and salad

I made it through the hard part of my day- eight hours of work followed by six hours of classes. I got a little hungry, since I packed one plum less than I thought I needed. However, I can do this! Here's what I've had so far:
B- one banana and a plum
S- sweet tea and plum (I can't go cold turkey on the caffeine and raw in the same week, but I will eventually ;)) and mango slices
L- edaname in Bragg's (which, now I know isn't raw), pineapple and peach chunks
S- plum and baby carrots
D- will be a salad with sprouts, cauliflower, and a vinegrette
I am still counting calories, but I don't see people doing that. Either way, this gets me in the minimum recommended by the trainer while staying under the maximum. :) Two days down, several thousand to go. :)

Wooohooo! I love being raw! It's so amazing. And I finally feel like I've gotten to that point where I'm not thinking about it all the time. It's more becoming part of me.
I've been trying to do some green juices everyday so I polished off all my greens todays so while I was at work, I picked some up! How lucky am I to work at a health food store? I picked up some flax crackers and ate almost all of them at once. They are so good!
This is the best time of the year for harvesting around my yard. I picked a bunch of plums, tomatoes and a boat load of grapes. I swear I ate my weight in grapes today. Made me feel a little bloated afterwords. Oh well.
Tomorrow, I'm going to start doing green smoothies like you guys have been raving about. Mmm mm! Can't wait!
Oh, dates. Dates, dates, dates. I ate a whole pound of them last night. Oh boy. No more for me. First day since I went raw my scale hasn't moved down. Hopefully that changes tomorrow.

Today is crazy. I feel SO good. It's hard to describe. I cant actually remember feeling this good ever. Ive been on and off meds for depression for about 2 years and have been suffering depression for a lot longer, but in denial about it.
Ive been off of the meds for about 6 months and was considering seeing the doc again when I started reading about raw foods. Im sure it's temporary response to the dietary changes, but in six short days I feel great! I would gladly eat raw every day of my life to maintain this kind of feeling:D

Hi All,
Yesterday and this morning have been hard, but not hard, if that makes sense. I didn't post yesterday because I had to put my most cherished dog down. Ugh. She gave me seventeen years so I can not complain but my heart aches and the house is just sad.
The great news, and I can say great, is that I had no desire to go off my raw way of eating. Normally, having battled eating disorders in various forms my entire life, my response would be to find a gallon of ice cream or bag of chips. I was so pleasantly surprised to feel such emotional strength and clarity. I ate an enormous bowl of red grapes as I sat outside in the chilly fall air and let the sun warm my fleece jacket. I was amazed that simplifying the foods I put in my mouth can have such a tremendous impact on my well being. Not that I should be suprised because I have read many testimonials, but everthing I have read and heard is true.
Today will most certainly be a sad, but fantastic day.

Hi everyone,
Veganspirit - I am so sorry to hear about your dog. They give us so much joy and happiness. I am so glad you had such a long time with her! We had to put our rhodesian ridgeback down last year and it was gut wrenching. He has 11. Our dane is 11 and hanging in there. We adopted our mini at a shelter about a week after losing our RR. He looks just like our RR and has similar personality traits. Your dog was so lucky to have you!
I had a banana this morning; will have romaine and guacamole for lunch; pesto stuffed mushrooms for snack: and green smoothie for dinner.
I'll be at Mizzou visiting my daughter at college for the next few days with the rest of my family, so won't be posting unitl Sunday.
Good luck staying raw.

Didn't officially join in the beginning but getting back to RAW. Been having some good days since Monday. Finished off the last watermelon of the season probably. Gonna miss those for breakfast. Been making a fruit salad of apple, banana, raisins, sunflowerseeds and a squirt of agave or honey. Having some GS's in there too for lunch or had cuke w/ sunflower seeed pate' (falafel recipe). Monday supper was white mushrooms w/ balsamic, salt and pepper and an avo. Tuesday supper was zucchini pasta with fresh cherry tomato marinara and made some "cheese". Then made zuke hummus for later in the week, but it smelled so good threw a tablespoon on top of the "cheese". Excellent supper. Tonight will be light supper of red/green/yellow pepper strips with some tahini and hummus.

I tried the raw strawberry fields forever cheesecake by Earth's cafe yesterday// I got it at whole foods.. It was fabulous.
Glad to see everyone moving forward...even as you work through the challenges that arise. Today was a good day. Early morning cucumber soup (with avo and collards). Lunch...some brussel sprouts with a delicious marinara sauce (the brussels were a bit too strong, though). Dinner was a kale/collard salad with a whole bunch of different things.
Best wishes to all as you close this day out and prepare for another!

Veganspirit, I am so sorry to hear about your dog. How amazing that you got to be together for 17 years; it's incredible how much animals teach us (definitely me, anyways) about life. Congrats on staying strong and staying dedicated to your well being. It's even more important to be clear (raw) in times like this.
Today I had a good day:
B-GS
L-Luna bar, more GS
Dinner-Big salad with hummus
Snack-Carrots and hummus, apple

I am feeling the effects of detox, but I am proud of myself today. Normally on Wednesdays I drink a chai while studying at Starbucks. today I came back to my apartment, studied, and took a nap. Tomorrow I'm meeting my sister for lunch at a restaurant that serves a SAD, so it will be a test of staying raw.

Today was pretty alright. Raw, of course. I tried a green smoothie for the first time and BLECH. There was more greens than fruit and I felt like I was chewing it. The taste wasnt so bad, it was the texture. Even adding agave didn't help. I couldn't finish it. Maybe I'll stick to juicing until I get it right.

Good Morning,
Still managed to stay raw despite being sad but I took an absolutely beautiful walk yesterday with one of my other dogs. Gorgeous fall day.
Today I woke up well rested and enjoyed a bowl of fresh dates for breakfast. They are just so sweet it is better than sugar cereal.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Hi all!
Happy to hear you're hanging in there vegan. :) I'm drinking a green smoothie that is to die for! Man, it's SO good. It has bok choy, spinach, green apple, green grapes, banana, tad bit of chlorella, and i added a tad bit of braz nut milk to the water and WOW! "slow down there girly!" :D will check back later. have a great day everybody!
Ate some grapes before my 4 mile walk this morning, then an apple on the drive home. Had a fruit smoothie for lunch and for dinner, a salad. Carolyn

I had last of my bananas and pineapple for breakfast. For lunch I made an apple/grapefruit/romaine smoothie. I would like to meet anyone who says they actually enjoy that combination, just to see if they had a straight face.
I feel great, no headaches or anything today. I slept well. I find that I am exhausted by bedtime but my energy levels during the day are skyrocketting. The exhausted feeling at night feels "right" so its all good.

I'm making lots of new things to try today. My plans for today fell through, so I'm staying home to take it easy on the budget and play with my food.
So far...
GS - rainbow chard, banana, plum, frozen strawberries, spirulina, and vitagreens
Chia seed pudding - YUM!
This morning I made a Anthony Anderson's Key Lime Pie from his website Rawmodel.com. It's made with avocado. I licked the spatula before putting it in the freezer. Tasty. Looking forward to having that tonight.
The ingredients for Victoria Boutenko's Raw Borscht are on the kitchen counter waiting for me to get busy with it. Since it's my first time making it I'm not sure if it is best eaten immediately or if it might improve with a few hours of marinating. Guess I'll only find that out if there are any leftovers to try again tomorrow.
Happy Friday! Hope everyone has a special RAW weekend!

I am happy to report that since I cut waaaaay back on the nuts, avocado's and figs 1 1/2 weeks ago I have lost 5 lbs without even trying. I was clearly overdoing it (who else goes raw while training for a marathon and GAINS 10lbs!?!) Whew...I was getting worried that I was not going to be able to stay raw anymore, and I really like it a lot so I am super stoked.
B~GS, sprouts with olive oil

Hello,
Today I am tired because went out last night for my birthday that was the 9th.. I am raw again today of course. It's getting easier to be raw in some ways. I'm glad gas is going back down right now. I met a guy last night that I had been talking to for a while finally.. He seems really nice.
I ate sunflower seeds a big bowl for breakfast. They are so good even just plain. I'm going to cut up some fruit for lunch and maybe have a GS for dinner.

Happy birthday!
I haven't posted in a long while, but I've been doing rawsome. I've been having raw coconut carob pudding for breakfast every morning except yesterday and today now that I am out of coconuts :( I made raw bread the other day and will have a sandwich with that for lunch. I've just been eating this and that. Great thing is that my boyfriend is sooo supportive of me. His mom is terrified because her best friend's daughter went on something "similar" and is now diagnosed with anorexia and a malfunctioning thyroid. So she reamed me out a little yesterday. I stayed calm and told her the difference between eating for weight loss and eating for health.
ANYWAY things are going good on this end! Made a raw pumpkin pie yesterday, so that's breakfast!
